Chapter 42 - Terrifying Beetles

No life could be found on the streets, but Wei Xiao Bei could see that the streets had become worse. Some brick walls had even been eroded by the wind; as the wind blew, the ash gray brick wall continued to crumble, becoming dust.

According to this trend, it would not even take a few years before the place became a complete ruins.

Only a murky light shone on the streets, making him indescribably downcast.

This mood disappeared only after he reached Lake Cui.

Fifty meters away from the Fishman Village, Wei Xiao Bei carefully hid himself but was shocked as he observed a the huge change in the Fishman Viallge.

When he quietly reached the entrance of the Fishmen Village, he carefully stretched his head to take a look. What he saw made his face ashen.

Wei Xiao Bei could recognize the Fishmen that were aimlessly moving about.

Actually he could only differentiate them from their body types. There were normal Fishmen, an Elite Fishman and even a Fishman Guard.

The only reason he recognized them was from the wound on their backs!

For example, the Elite Fishman’s chest was caved in while its back was slightly protruding. Another Fishman had a wound that seemed to be caused by a pitchfork, the blood had dried and countless mosquitoes had a.s.sembled on it.

Without a doubt, these were the Fishmen that died in Wei Xiao Bei’s hands.

He became confused.

They had already died!

How could they have resurrected?

After carefully observing for a while, he came to a conclusion. These Fishmen did not revive. From their stiff movements and unconscious pacing, it was clear that they had become zombies.

The thought had given Wei Xiao Bei gooseb.u.mps and a chill spread through his body.

Moreover, these Fishmen were the ones he lured out using the Fiendish Man Fish meat!

Actually, making such inference was simple, and anyone with a normal IQ would also come to the same conclusion.

The Fishmen corpses becoming zombies might be because they ate the Fiendish Man Fish meat, and they were the cause of the destruction of the Fishmen Village.

Those Fiendish Man Fish were indeed a bit strange, so Wei Xiao Bei would not doubt it if this were truly the cause.

Wei Xiao Bei however, did not leave even after witnessing such a scene. On the contrary, he picked up a rock, tossed it inside the Fishmen Village, and observed for any movements.

The rock had hit a simple wooden house, letting out a small sound.

Although it was not loud, it had still attracted the Fishmen corpses’ attention.

Wei Xiao Bei had temporarily named them as Fishman Corpses.

These Fishman Corpses began to slowly surround the wooden house from where the sound came from.

The Fishmen only looked scary due to the large wound on their back, but their walking speed was not even half of normal Fishmen. Moreover, they were extremely clumsy to the point that one of the Fishman Corpses tripped on a corpse on the ground and fell down. It struggled on the ground for a while before getting back up with great difficulty.

Wei Xiao Bei became even more suspicious after seeing this scene.

The number of Fishmen in the village should have exceeded the number of Fishman Corpses. Moreover, these Fishman Corpses were slow. It would be a huge joke if they were  actually be a threat those energetic Fishmen.

No matter how gutless those Fishmen were, it would be impossible for them to offer no resistance and allow the Fishman Corpses to kill them.

Maybe two Fishman Guards would already be enough to kill the Fishman Corpses.

This was all just too strange.

After a.s.sembling around the wooden house, the Fishman Corpses stood there blankly for a while before wandering all over the place again.

In the end, a Fishman Corpse began to slowly walk towards the village entrance.

Wei Xiao Bei tightly grasped the pitchfork in his hand. He would never act blindly without thinking before finding out the entire truth. However, if the Fishman Corpse approached him, he could only make his move and kill it.

The Fishman Corpse stopped at the village entrance and stayed there without even moving a single bit.

Wei Xiao Bei thought that he had been discovered, but the Fishman Corpse turned around and walked back in the village.

Time pa.s.sed by bit by bit.

The Fishman Corpses acted as if they were trapped by an invisible barrier. Everytime a Fishman Corpse approached the village entrance, they would stop for a while and walk back in.

When he noticed this, Wei Xiao Bei, all the more, did not dare to enter the village.

The place was too strange.

After lying down for a little more than two hours, he decided to leave the place.

The longer he stayed there, the stronger he felt an indescribable sense of danger, as if there was a voice warning him to leave.

After moving more than fifty meters away from the village, the sense of danger that he felt increased like a dam on the edge of collapsing.

His awareness attribute was at 9.25 points! His willpower was 12, judgement was 8, perception was 7, and intuition was 10!

The layer of black happened to be a countless number of  black beetles the size of a finger!

Wherever the black beetles went, whether it was the reed thicket or the gray weeds, everything had been eaten cleanly.

Even the Fishman Corpses in the Fishmen Village had been quickly covered by these beetles and disappeared from sight.
