Sangrov…? Oh… Zhao Yu thought, raising an eyebrow as if he had come to some sort of realization. Zhao Yu’s father-in-law, Miao Kun, was from the Special Service. The same department as Xiao Hang. Now that Xiao Hang had brought up Sangrov, it was an obvious hint that the night Miao Kun invited him to dinner, Xiao Hang had also been present. He had been in the Miao family mansion to witness the fight between Sangrov and himself! That meant that Xiao Hang and his father-in-law, Miao Kun, were possibly related. Was Xiao Hang trying to worm his way into becoming closer to him?

“Regarding Ms. Cui, it was all a misunderstanding!” Xiao Hang said, smiling and waving. “We only had some of the information, and knowing that she is Tao Xiang’s daughter, we figured we could catch her to understand more about the situation. We did not expect that she was already part of the G.o.dly Detective Zhao’s investigative team. I’m truly sorry about what happened! Luckily, the superiors informed us of this in time, or else this whole thing would have been blown out of proportion!”

“Ew!” Zhao Yu suddenly pinched his nose and turned to face his teammates. “Who the h*ll farted, why is it so smelly?” Hearing Zhao Yu’s accusations, Xiao Hang’s subordinates could no longer hold it in and were close to scolding Zhao Yu until Xiao Hang held out his hands to stop them.

Zhao Yu did not believe Xiao Hang’s explanation. Cui Lizhu was not some newbie, she had been part of the Special Investigations Team for a while now, and had been heavily involved with the entire process during the Demon Case. She had long been recognized by the superiors of the Criminal Department, and even though she had changed teams, she had already ama.s.sed quite a reputation for herself. So, how could these people who were supposedly professionals from Special Services make such a rookie mistake? There had to be another reason why they had kidnapped Cui Lizhu. They had either wanted to give Zhao Yu and the others a warning or they had some other ulterior motives.

“G.o.dly Detective Zhao,” Xiao Hang said playfully. “I hope you can understand one thing. I didn’t come here just to waste my saliva and time speaking with you. The efficiency of your criminal department is truly something else…” At this point, he glanced at his watch to make a point.

Right at that moment, Zhao Yu’s phone rang. It was the Criminal Department’s head office. After answering the call, Zhao Yu found that an anxious Chief Jiao was on the other end. “Zhao Yu, listen to me!” she said. “There have been some changes to the case you are currently investigating. Special Services has taken over the case. From here on out, you just have to cooperate with them. Their people will contact you soon…”

What… Zhao Yu thought. His heart skipped a beat. He had not expected Special Services to be this well-regarded. Even Chief Jiao had to personally contact him. Seeing the change in Zhao Yu’s expression, Xiao Hang smirked arrogantly.

“What? What did you say?” Zhao Yu asked, pretending to be confused. “The signal here is really bad, I can’t hear you well…”

“Zhao Yu!” Chief Jiao said, about to lose her patience. “I’m warning you… Special Services are different from everyone else. You better pay attention to your actions. If you offend them, forget me, not even G.o.d will be able to save you.”

Zhao Yu secretly hung up the phone. After he had hung up, he pretended to yell at the phone. “What? Oh? Lao Liu? You’re asking me about the stocks, right? I asked around, the stock market has been stable recently, and you can’t make much money. How about this, the few billions you have, hold on to it for now and invest it another time. Listening to Zhao Yu spout nonsense, his colleagues towards him and frowned. The atmosphere in the room had turned abnormally tense. Until he hung up his fake call, there was dead silence in the room.

“Uhm…” Xiao Hang began, his expression unreadable. “G.o.dly Detective Zhao, isn’t this all a bit pointless?”

Beep, beep, beep… Just as Xiao Hang finished his sentence, Li Jing’s phone rang. She quickly retreated to a corner to answer the call. Judging by her expressions and gestures, it seemed to be a call from her superiors asking her to cooperate with the Special Service team.

“Fuhaha!” Zhao Yu pointed at the phone. “Some people think that just because I’m some G.o.dly detective, everything I touch will turn to gold. They even come to me for advice on things like buying stocks, how irritating! Hahaha! Xiao… uhm, sorry, Xiao what were we talking about again? Where were we earlier? I believe you were midway through your sentence when you let out that huge fart?”

“Hey!” one of Xiao Hang’s subordinates shouted, no longer able to suppress his anger. “How can you speak to him like that? Some sort of lousy leader you are! What are you upset about?”

“What are YOU upset about?” Cui Lizhu replied curtly. “You kidnapped a member of the criminal investigation department’s special team! We have the right to arrest you immediately!” After hearing Cui Lizhu’s words, the Special Services team began laughing maniacally.

“Hmph!” Xiao Hang said coldly after he had stopped laughing. His facial expression had changed. “Leader Zhao, let’s do away with the formalities. I’ve said this earlier and I’ll say it again, I’m not here to discuss anything, or even to collaborate with you. I’m merely here to give you orders. You guys have to do whatever I tell you to do. If you continue to speak rudely to me, prepare the face the consequences!”

“Hey!” Li Jing, finished with her call, cut in righteously before Zhao Yu had time to speak. “Even if you are of a higher rank, you must still do things according to your principles! As a member of the country’s most important investigation departments, you as Special Services should be setting an example for us and act as a role model! Officer Xiao, it was illegal for you to kidnap our Special Investigation Team member. If you don’t properly explain this, we will not cooperate with you!”

Li Jing’s words left Zhao Yu feeling dazed. He had a.s.sumed that after Li Jing’s phone call with her superiors, she would advise him not to confront the Special Services team. Who would have thought that she would stand by his side in this argument?

“Oh? And who are you? I am speaking to Leader Zhao. Did I give you permission to speak?” Xiao Hang asked, glancing at Li Jing scornfully.

“I am this Special Investigation Team’s group leader, Li Jing! If you have something to say, you can say it to me!” Li Jing said in a commanding tone. “Yes, it is true that we received an order from our superiors. But even though we are obligated to cooperate with you, you should still give us a reasonable explanation! The most important thing in our line of work is sincerity. If you’re going to be so rude, I’m afraid it’s going to make it hard to follow you. If that means we go up against our superiors then so be it! It’s of no loss to us!”

“Great, well said!” Cui Lizhu said, clapping for Li Jing despite being in shock.

“Ha…” Xiao Hang shook his head and sighed. “What an eloquent female leader! Your criminal investigation office really is full of talent. Great! Since it’s come to this, I won’t hold back.” Xiao Hang took out a pair of handcuffs and threw them onto the table, pointing at Cui Lizhu. “We hereby suspect Cui Lizhu on the grounds that her ident.i.ty may be a threat to national security. We will bring her back to cooperate with the investigation. How’s that for an explanation? Are you satisfied?”

“How dare you!” Li Jing said, agitated. “Cui Lizhu is a member of our Special Investigation Team. You think you can just take her away like that? What evidence do you have?”

“It’s simple!” Xiao Hang laughed coldly. “It’s because she’s Tao Xiang’s daughter! We suspect she was involved in things that were not reported and we require her to a.s.sist in these investigations. Team, get her!” Under the orders of Xiao Hang, his subordinates immediately swarmed around Cui Lizhu to arrest her!
