1. Ba Chi s.h.i.+eld (Chinese: 八尺盾 Pinyin: bā chǐ dùn )

Individually, Ba (八) means eight while Chi (尺) has multiple meanings. It means the ruler for measurement; something that is flat like a ruler; a unit of measurement or one of the three acupoints for measuring pulse in Chinese medicine.

However, in this case, Ba & Chi (八尺) carries the meaning “huge” or beautiful”. I believe that this name, Ba Chi (八尺), is borrowed from the Chinese name of an item in the j.a.panese folklore that is called Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡). It is said to be a sacred mirror that is a part of the Imperial Regalia of j.a.pan which is also called the Three Sacred Treasures of j.a.pan. It’s said to have the function of avoiding evil spirits.
