Tears oozed out of her closed eyes and her cheeks twitched as she frowned in painful realization. She felt like she had never cried so hard before. She whimpered softly into her slumber.

When dawn had arrived with sunlight that shone upon her eyes, she sat up from the bed quickly and pulled her phone towards her to check the time.

Phew it was still early. There are probably only the maids downstairs at the moment…

A new kind of phobia haunted her. The source was none other than the Huo family. She could not imagine a normal breakfast with the entire family anymore. She placed down her phone and collected her thoughts. Having more conversations would only reveal more things about her past. She would not want to tremble at her words just to greet her parents.

It’ll be better for me to leave. Right now.

She made up her mind and began packing. She tidied her hair clumsily and picked the earliest flight back to the city on her way downstairs. She grabbed her coat off the rack and a bottle of milk off the fridge before she left the crime scene for good.

She thought she was the only one who had nightmares the whole night. The reality was, the devil was not sleeping that soundly either. He got up and left his room right after Lu closed the front door and ran away. He gave a few knocks at Lu’s room, only to hear no reply. Everything felt pointless by then.

“Son, get over here for dinner.” He ignored his father’s call and headed straight for the front door. As he walked through the garden, Huo Chen was there. The prince also did not look that well as he appeared to be rather dispirited. One could tell sorrow by his expression. Huo Yunting gave a brief wave to greet him before walking past him hurriedly.

“Hold it.” Huo Chen reached out his arm and held Huo Yunting back, “Would you mind explaining your words last night? Yunting, I demand to know everything.” His eyes were stern.

Huo Yunting snorted towards Huo Chen’s inquiry, as he laboriously took out a cigarette and lighter from his pocket.

He inhaled deeply and let the nicotine clear his mind. The bit of glow twinkled among the columns of smoke. Huo Chen remained silent as he patiently awaited the explanation.

“Well…” The devil slowly made his statement after taking another deep breath, “I had made promise that somebody in the story, that I will not tell anybody about this, including her own mother.”

“But—”

“Huo Chen…” Huo Yunting interrupted, “Sometimes there are things you need to discover them yourself.”

“…”

Huo Chen’s expression turned sterner yet there was nothing he could do.

He would not want to admit it. However, it was also a fact that there was no way for him to get anything from Huo Yunting at the moment.

But one thing for sure, Yang was hiding something.

“I still have a few errands to run at the company. I’ll be leaving. See you next time.” Huo Yunting then stepped on the cigarette he threw and left. Huo Chen froze at the same spot, tasting the last bit of his brother’s words like the scent of tobacco that remained.

Two hours later, Huo Yunting exited the carpark and walked briskly into Thunderbolt Corp, when someone came with an invitation card to a function. Huo Yunting seized the card and glanced at Secretary Lin Yazhi, “Call the Head Secretary here.” That was his last few words before he slammed the door shut and sealed himself in his office.

“Alright.” Lin Yazhi quickly returned to the office.

Huo Yunting then sank into his throne, with his darkened stare fixed upon the entrance in the gloomy room. The door was soon pushed open, with his beloved secretary stomping towards him expressionlessly. Her steps sounded steady to his ears as usual, yet he could perceive the irritation in it.

“Sir, is there anything?” Said Lu coldly.

Like seriously, the last person I need to see would be this Huo Yunting.

I don’t want to see him if possible.

NOT AT ALL.

Huo Yunting gently pushed the finely-crafted invitation across the table, “Join me.”

Join you???

She remembered the fiasco he caused during the auction last time. Thanks to him being a “gentleman” she also managed to become the “superstar” in the headline news the next day.
