Lu Zhaoyang returned to her desk and studied her monitor screen blankly while she peeked occasionally at the office entrance.

Ten thirty, he said. He should be leaving anytime now.

As expected, Huo Yunting appeared a few minutes later at the door, leaving the office building.

Lu Zhaoyang’s palms were sweating profusely by now. She was worried that Huo Yunting would notice something amiss.

“Sister Zhaoyang, you don’t look so good! Are you sick?”

A small and cool hand rested on her forehead.

“It’s easy to fall sick in this weather. You should be more careful, what if you caught a fever?” Lin Yazhi removed her hand and gave it a rub. “It looks like you’re sweating.”

Lu Zhaoyang packed her things and replied softly, “I do feel a little unwell. I guess I’ll request for sick leave from HR to rest at home.”

Lin Yazhi urged her, “Go, go, remember to drink enough water!”

When Lu Zhaoyang was back at her mansion, she packed minimally to avoid being too obvious.

The maids were all at home. If they reported their suspicions to Huo Yunting, her plan would be busted.

When she was done packing her travel doc.u.ments, she left the house swiftly.

Fortunately, Huo Yunting did not restrict her actions at home. The maids did not know about the coercion involved in their marriage, so they had always been very respectful toward her.

She arranged for a driver to send her to the airport. On the way, she clutched tightly onto her bag and stared blankly into nowhere. Her heart was beating crazily out of anxiety.

“Miss, what time is your flight? You look nervous.”

The driver’s voice startled Lu Zhaoyang.

Was she being so obvious with her emotions?

“I’d appreciate if we can reach the airport faster, Sir, it’s quite urgent!”

The sooner she left this place, the better.

The car moved faster after that. Lu Zhaoyang studied the receding scenery through the window along the way.

The only way she could revisit this familiar place in future was through her memories.

She was about to say farewell to the city.

The airport was crowded. Lu Zhaoyang took her luggage with her and looked around for that familiar figure.

Suddenly, someone grabbed her arm. She turned to see a man with sungla.s.ses speaking to her in a low but urgent voice, “You’re being followed. Be careful.”

It was Chen’s voice!

Lu Zhaoyang inhaled sharply, feeling her chest tightening.

She did not notice anyone following her before this, probably due to her nervousness.

Chen put an arm around her waist and guided her through the crowd in an attempt to slip away from their pursuer.

“Don’t worry, it’s Huo Li.”

Lu Zhaoyang followed Huo Chen’s lead and allowed him to guide her through the airport.

The airport was huge. She did not know what terminal or airline she was flying with.

Huo Li, on the other hand… would probably be just as oblivious as she was.

No wonder Huo Yunting went to the city summit today by himself, despite how important the event was.

He must have noticed something in her and asked Huo Li to keep an eye on things.

As expected, nothing escaped his attention.

Lu Zhaoyang felt a chill running up her spine as she realized this and became fl.u.s.tered.

She stared at the ma.s.sive crowd bustling around her and gripped tightly onto Huo Chen’s hand.

“Trust me, Yang Yang.”

“Alright.”

Lu Zhaoyang nodded. Huo Chen was an elite soldier and the youngest Captain in the nation. With his skills in surveillance and counter surveillance, he should be able shake off Huo Li.
