“Don’t you think the president was overreacting? When I think about that gentle and gorgeous man who came to see Secretary Lu, I think I will support them more! Ah, we really shouldn’t have such salacious thoughts!”

“Sigh…”

There was a full blown gossip session happening in the secretary office. In the corridor outside, Lin Yazhi stared at Lu Zhaoyang curiously while still holding a cup in her hands.

“Why did you disappear for so long? Was there trouble?” She had been worried sick!

“No, I just took a long break and did some travelling to relax.” Lu Zhaoyang made up an excuse for her absence.

Lin Yazhi pursed her lips for awhile, and then asked again, “But where were you staying before this? I went to your house but there was a thick layer of dust on the door. It’s like the house had been empty for a long time.”

“My house…”

“Sister Zhaoyang, you disappeared without a word and I got worried, so I got my hands on your bio to try to find you.”

“I did leave very abruptly, I’m sorry I got you so worried. I had actually moved to another place some time ago but I never found the time to update my details.”

“I see! Alright, alright, I’m glad as long as everything is good with you. Let’s celebrate your return tonight, I’ll buy you dinner!” Lin Yazhi was innocent enough to believe everything she heard. She hooked her arm around Lu Zhaoyang’s and grinned. “Oh, I almost forgot something!”

Lin Yazhi abruptly stopped in her tracks. She spilled some of her drink but did not seem to notice it.

“I saw the president when I was at your place. He was smoking by his car and there were already a lot of stubs on the ground. I think he looked quite melancholic!”

Lu Zhaoyang was surprised. What was Huo Yunting doing at her house, knowing that she was already out of the country?

She could not figure out why he would do that. Perhaps he was simply too angry to think straight.

“The president is actually not too bad, Sister Zhaoyang. He did not look like the kind of person to treat his stepmother and stepsister badly. He must be worried about you too!” Lin Yazhi was convinced of her deductions .”Say, do you think we should ask the president to join us for dinner tonight?”

Lu Zhaoyang knew that Huo Yunting would resent her for having dinner outside. Why on earth would he join them?

She would never invite him!

“Do you think you’ll be comfortable with him around?” said Lu Zhaoyang smiling at the young woman. She was astounded by her conclusions.

Huo Yunting as a kind stepbrother?

Hah!

“Err, you have a point.”

Lin Yazhi immediately a.s.sented to keep dinner to themselves.

They chatted and returned to the secretary office together. New Year was coming around the corner and the office was swamped. Even Huo Yunting had to put in some solid hours of work.

That was good for Lu Zhaoyang. As long as he was busy, he would not have time to bother her.

Lu Zhaoyang ignored the rumours circling around in the secretary department.

Miraculously, Huo Yunting did not contact her directly throughout the day. Any papers that needed to be signed were handled by Lin Yazhi.

She stole a quick moment with Lin Yazhi and asked how the president was doing. Lin Yazhi said, “He looks normal to me. He just signed the papers and pa.s.sed them back to me.”

He must be genuinely busy then. That was good news.

After work, Lu Zhaoyang promptly packed her stuff and left with Lin Yazhi.

When they arrived at their destination, Lin Yazhi stared at the place and then turned to Lin Yazhi, who was beaming excitedly. “Are you sure we’re in the right place?”
