Throughout the next hour, Mo Shan had been looping between the action of chuckling and gargling alcohol like a machine. Zhaoyang could see her cheeks shaking as she lifted her head up and down when she laughed dramatically. And Zhaoyang could not bear to see those bottles she had cleared. She felt sorry for Mo Shan’s stomach.

Soon she could not take the noises and the sharp smell of alcohol with the breath of people suffocating her, Zhaoyang excused herself and went to the washroom.

“Ughhhhhhh!” She opened the door, only to see Mo Shan hugging the stand puking.

“Mo Shan, if you can’t drink anymore you could just stay out of the place tonight. I can inform your boss for you,” said Lu Zhaoyang while was.h.i.+ng her hands.

“Don’t need your precious effort, you pretentious woman! You’ve been following me everywhere, haven’t you? Why do I always have to see you around?” Mo Shan shook her head vigorously and shot her a look,”Haven’t you seen enough of me? Where are you following me next?”

“Following you? Please, I’m not that bored at least.” Lu Zhaoyang turned and pushed the door open, “Do whatever you want. Forget what I’ve just said.”

“You—It’s none of your business even if I was drugged dead by drinking!” Mo Shan was at a loss of words, that even she herself felt embarra.s.sed of this weak comeback.

Lu Zhaoyang left anyway. If it was not Mo Shan, she probably would not even be bothered enough to start a conversation in the first place.

Right after she returned to her seat, Mo Shan came too, beaming at the crowd like Snow White’s stepmother, as if that ugly scene of her throwing up at the washroom never happened.

She pa.s.sed Zhaoyang a glance and mumbled, “I have met Special a.s.sistant Lu on a few occasions before. She’s quite a drinker usually. What’s wrong? You aren’t finis.h.i.+ng your drinks tonight, was it because it was *just* President Wen whom you’re drinking with?” She went and sat opposite to Zhaoyang while pouring herself a full gla.s.s gleefully.

Everybody else immediately looked at the lady in question at the table.

President Wen’s expression froze a little upon hearing it, he added, “Oh? I never knew Special a.s.sistant Lu is a drinker in disguise! Is it true, Special a.s.sistant Lu, that you aren’t giving me the honor? You didn’t even finish a gla.s.s!”

Another person chipped in, “I know right, don’t give that ‘I’m not feeling well tonight’ excuse. I was once fortunate to have witnessed Special a.s.sistant Lu at a drinking party two years ago. She was still President Huo’s secretary and she sure can take the gla.s.ses well. Very strange of her today…”

Great, now my only excuse got shot down, burned and buried.

Zhaoyang thought with a brief smile as her eyes looked at Mo Shan a few times.

Mo Shan was not afraid of her stare. She even sat up straight, lifting her chin provocatively.

Zhaoyang called a waiter to pour a gla.s.s of beer for her. She stood up and picked the gla.s.s, before putting on a plastic smile at all guests, “I’m just normal, unlike this Miss Shan here. I was once a young and wild lady who only drank one gla.s.s after another and now I have a horrible stomach. If it wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have the courage to refuse President Wen’s treat. Well, manners are manners. I’ll bottom-up this beer for President Wen and fellow bosses here as my apology!” It was a well-constructed sentence that involved President Wen, b.u.t.tering him up to shut down the conversation while getting herself away from more drinking invitations.

And it worked like a charm as President Wen’s smile returned.

Lu Zhaoyang drank the entire gla.s.s gradually and coughed loudly at the very last bit.

Seeing her plan failed miserably, Mo Shan nearly wanted to splash her drink at Lu Zhaoyang.

Mo Shan’s face brightened up, as on a hypocritical tone, she gave another stab, “See! I told you Special a.s.sistant Lu is an experienced drinker! I mean, people like us always have a horrible stomach in the end, it’s no big deal, okay?”
