“Excuse me. I believe you overthink. No one has come for you only because I have retired and you have nothing to do with me now.”

“I didn’t know that you really stick to your professional ethics.”

Wen He arched the corner of her mouth, sneering at him, knowing that the more incorruptible he was, the harder it would get what she wanted. Swirling the water in the gla.s.s in her hand, she said, “Ultimately, the Huo Family gained its status virtually by its tie to the military. But now, with Huo Yunting in Thunderbolt Corp and Huo Zhenning getting old and frail, I believe that your mother would not be pleased about your retirement.”

She put down the gla.s.s, jumped down from the desk, and walked towards him. ” You’d better not waste your time in Huo Family Corp. It is beyond resuscitation. Since the guy with the name Xiang has wished it, don’t you think he has lost interest in the Huo Family Corp long ago? His focus is no longer here.”

“I know.” Huo Chen finally slightly casted his eyes on her. “Like I said, going back is not that simple. Stop dreaming.”

“Why not talk to the officer-in-charge, asking him to grant us a chance?”

She slowly leaned closer to him.

But Huo Chen quietly took a couple of steps back. “The last time you came, I had talked to him but he refused.”

Wen He was transfixed upon hearing his reply. All the while, she had been thinking that he did not take her to heart. Little did she know that he had tried to help. But since the officer-in-charge had refused, it only meant that Huo Chen was her only way out.

“For the sake of three of our lives, you should go back.”

“You should leave.” He closed the file in his hands and rubbed his tired eyes.

“No, all I got is time. I will stick with you.”

Lu Bai was still in the hospital after the accident. With a female bodyguard by his side, she had no way getting in to see him.

So her priority now was to fix Huo Chen. She was tired of hiding—she did not want to live a life like this.

Not wanting to waste his time on this ‘plaster in human form’, Huo Chen sat back down and got busy again.

Meanwhile, Wen He had learned her lesson and decided not to bother with his work. She sat silently on the sofa listening to music on her earphone.

After work, she saw Huo Chen getting to his feet. So she followed him into the elevator.

“Going home?”

“Mhm.”

“Would you please invite me over to have a cup of coffee?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“Don’t be so cold. Woman wouldn’t like it.” She turned to look at the reflection on the silvery walls in the elevator.

The side of Huo Chen’s face was reflected off the mirror-like surface. He looked so perfect, refined and cold. There was not the slightest imperfection on him.

The elevator ground to a halt and the door slid open slowly. Wen He quickly pulled back her eyes when she realized that she was captivated by his good look.

The man beside her had first stepped out. Looking at him from behind, Wen He chuckled silently before following him to the parking lot and tailing his car from behind. Since Huo Chen did not agree, there was only one way to go about it—Mrs Huo, the old lady. Aching the corner of her mouth, she stepped on the gas pedal to close the gap between them.

“Second Master, we’ve got company.”

Sitting in the rear pa.s.senger seat and pretending to nap, Huo Chen heard his chauffer and turned to look at the license plate of the car behind them.

“Ignore her.”

“Understood.”
