Chapter 980: Bleeding

When Huo Congjun hurried to the hospital from home, the climatic impact from the third wave of ambulances had already died down.

The doctors who were still in the Emergency Department’s main hall and not yet dispatched were only two hous.e.m.e.n who had seemingly been picked up from somewhere and three or four young resident doctors who had just run over from their departments.

However, Ling Ran was still standing in the reception area and had yet to enter the resuscitation room or operating theater as he usually would in the past.

Looking at Ling Ran’s tall and straight body, practically all the medical staff, including Huo Congjun, felt inexplicably relieved.

“How many ambulances came?” Huo Congjun’s expression became much more relaxed. The fact that Ling Ran was not on the playing field yet showed that the Emergency Department still possessed its greatest power, and it also showed that Yun Hua’s emergency system had not collapsed.

The feeling was similar to when a general’s armored division had yet to be dispatched into battle. Huo Congjun could not help but feel relieved that he was not too late in his return.

Just as Ling Ran ended a voice call, he heard the question from Huo Congjun. He turned around, smiled, and said, “A total of twelve ambulances and twenty-one patients.”

Huo Congjun was about to move forward when his knee went weak. He almost fell and became the twenty-second patient. “How many batches are they separated into?” he hurriedly asked.

“Three batches,” Ling Ran replied.

Huo Congjun asked, “So in just a short period, three batches of patients have arrived?”

“Yes.”

“These guys…” Huo Congjun thought of another possibility. He frowned and asked, “Are there a lot of lightly injured victims? Since we’re providing food and drinks for the paramedics—”

“Every ambulance basically has one who’s seriously injured,” Ling Ran interrupted Huo Congjun’s estimation.

“That’s more like it.” Huo Congjun’s anger quickly disappeared. For hospitals, the performance appraisal of a lightly injured patient was incomparable to that of a severely injured patient. It was especially so for a patient suffering only from external injuries. Even if he broke an arm, he only needed to get two X-rays, a splint, and a cast.

Seriously wounded patients were a different case, especially those who were so seriously injured that they had to enter the ICU. The number and type of fluid replacements they needed alone could use up the entire stock of a small clinic, forcing them to restock.

As the manager of Yun Hua Emergency Medical Center, Huo Congjun spent all his efforts to get the lounge for paramedics as well as drivers so that they could eat meat and drink tea for free. The idea was to get the paramedics to cla.s.sify the patients spontaneously before they reached the hospitals. ‘You can send lightly wounded patients anywhere, but seriously wounded patients and our hospital’s doctor have to be sent here.’ These were the words written on the pizza boxes in the lounge for paramedics.

However, Huo Congjun suddenly looked at Ling Ran in doubt. “A dozen seriously injured people have been sorted out properly?”

“Yes, I’ve mainly distributed them to various departments. There is one operating theater left. I didn’t let anyone use it,” Ling Ran answered quickly.

Huo Congjun nodded slowly. In such an emergency, the Emergency Medical Center can only carry out the initial treatment, stabilize the patient’s condition, and refer them to another department. Their tasks would then be completed, nonetheless…

Nonetheless…

Huo Congjun was full of doubts as he looked at Ling Ran. He did not even know how he should start asking questions.

“The departments were particularly cooperative. Doctor Ling’s allocation of patients was also reasonable, so the referral went particularly smoothly.” Zuo Cidian slipped out of the corner. He knew about Huo Congjun’s doubts too because Huo Congjun was not the only one who had questions. Other people and Zuo Cidian himself had similar questions.

“Even if the departments cooperated…” Huo Congjun frowned. If he had to pinpoint a certain time when other departments did not cooperate during another emergency of that scale… he would be able to. Of course, there would always be a department or a doctor that would not follow the Emergency Department’s request for various reasons. However, such a degree of incoordination was not necessarily wrong, and it may not even reduce the treatment quality and efficiency.

At the end of the day, each surgeon’s operation method was unique. Even if the hospital’s treatment procedures had turned into streamlined procedures and were so detail-oriented that they could tend to different patients, the patients were always different in the end. The hospital may want to standardize things and streamline procedures a little more, but before the human body could be a.s.sembled in a streamlined procedure, the hospital could not be so wilful.

When it came to emergency treatments, different departments and doctors had different habits as well as requirements. All this while, the Emergency Department was never able to get what they asked for fully.

Huo Congjun naturally looked to Zuo Cidian.

Zuo Cidian understood Huo Congjun’s look, just like a cub who understood a lion’s expression. He obediently stretched out his furry paws to let the lion caress it and broke into a cute smile as he said, “How should I say this? Ling Ran’s efficiency in guiding operations is beyond normal levels.”

“Isn’t it typical for him to go beyond the normal level?” Huo Congjun said something which was difficult for others to understand, but standard for Yun Hua Hospital’s staff.

“You should see how Ling Ran guides surgeries.” The Department of Urology’s a.s.sociate Chief Physician Guo Liqing walked over slowly.

“He didn’t affect you, did he?” Huo Congjun laughed first.

“No, he didn’t.” Guo Liqing waved his hand and said, “We do accept guidance. Even if we’re affected, it’d be a good influence…”

Huo Congjun heard a slight resentful tone in his voice, but he did not care about it because he also heard the helplessness in Guo Liqing’s voice.

Being helpless in the current environment was not considered a bad thing.

“How did you guide them?” Huo Congjun finally asked Ling Ran what he was concerned about and looked at him.

Ling Ran recalled and said, “I proposed some solutions. Some have been adopted by everyone, and that’s it.”

Huo Congjun continued to look at Guo Liqing.

Guo Liqing could not stop himself from being a little stunned. It was as if he was stuck in some kind of memory.

“Department Director Guo?” Huo Congjun knew that Guo Liqing was a bit strange. Although his level of strangeness was not on par with Ling Ran’s, he was not easy to deal with as well. This was especially so when he waited in the toilet for several days to get clients to undergo circ.u.mcision in order to fulfill his oath. In order to make up the count, he even circ.u.mcised his own p*nis, and he could be regarded as an example of someone who would definitely fulfill his promises.

“Ling Ran’s eyes are almost as fast as an MRI.” Guo Liqing stopped talking for a while and said, “He is very good at looking at MRI scans. Without an MRI scan, he can still see where the ureter is ruptured. This is the first time I’ve seen such an ability after all the years I’ve lived, I swear.”

“Well…”

Huo Congjun was still putting together all the bits and pieces of information in his mind when two ambulances stopped outside the reception hall’s door.

“Just watch.” Guo Liqing gestured by raising his chin at Huo Congjun.

Right then, two remaining resident doctors and two interns had already rushed over.

Ling Ran was still standing in the reception hall and did not go up immediately to receive the ambulance.

The two resident doctors quickly cla.s.sified the patients according to the severity of their injuries. The three patients with minor injuries were sent to the treatment room by the interns for further cla.s.sification and treatment.

The two seriously injured patients pa.s.sed the place where Ling Ran stood and were pushed all the way into the resuscitation room.

“Wait here, please consult the Cardiothoracic Department.” Ling Ran performed a simple physical examination on the patients one by one before he intercepted one of them.

The other patient was pushed directly into the room, his treatment process unaffected.

Ling Ran told the resident doctor, “Please ask the Cardiothoracic Department to pay attention and observe the intercostal blood vessels. There should be active bleeding.”

He was actually quite certain with his a.s.sessment because he had done an ultra-fast dissection using the Virtual Human when the patients pa.s.sed by him.

It was a trick Ling Ran discovered today. In a very short time, such as in about one second, he dissected the patient horizontally and vertically, which were the coronal plane and vertical plane commonly known in anatomy. So, he could naturally obtain a large amount of information.

If it had been a normal day, it would naturally be a waste for him to use the Virtual Human like that. But in today’s sudden situation, Ling Ran managed to save up a lot of time because of it.

With the time he saved, he could automatically do a lot more things.

Guo Liqing pouted and said to Huo Congjun, “Do you see it now? There’s no need to even do a scan. Just by glancing at the patient, he can directly point out the bleeding point.”

Huo Congjun looked at Guo Liqing like he was a fool. “What’s so difficult about doing that?”

“The Emergency Medical Center can do that now as well?”

Huo Congjun sighed. “I mean, the patient’s chest is still bleeding.”
