It was already night time. The water was pitch black in spite of the surrounding lamps.

“Help…!”

Qinger struggled to float as she shrieked with fear. Very soon, she began sinking into the water.

Mu Chenyan was stunned still for a few seconds, motionless.

The water was rather deep at where the mid-lake pavilion was located. When Mu Chenyan saw the woman in the water flailing her arms frantically, she panicked and shouted for help.

“Someone help! Qinger has fallen into the water!”

The Yuan family had servants patrolling around the clock, so her shouts quickly drew the attention of people.

“I was chatting with Mu Chenyan by the lake when I saw a fish jumping out of the water, so I went closer to take a look, but I accidentally lost my footing and fell into it…”

Mu Chenyan secretly let out a sigh of relief.

“Who else? You, of course!” Yuan Xuan was worried about the woman’s IQ.

“How am I stupid?” Mu Chenyan could not help but feel wronged. Although she was not extremely bright, being chided by this man as a fool over and over again annoyed her.

“Why did you jump in? You should’ve just let her drown, yet you chose to jump in. Aren’t you stupid?”

Yuan Xuan said in a half-genuine and half-pretense manner. His expression was also not of a serious one.
