Sheng Qingyi rubbed his hands together uneasily. “Yize, just give me five more minutes. Oh, no, three minutes will do! And, and I prepared a gift for the babies…”

He took out an exquisite box and opened it eagerly. In it were two golden locks carved with complicated patterns. One could tell that he had put his heart into them.

Covering his head with both hands, Sheng Qingyi said awkwardly, “I just… wanted to see the babies.”

“You’re not allowed to! Leave! Now!” Grandma Sheng was vexed as well.

Sheng Qingyi looked behind them and his gaze landed on An Xiaxia.

Pursing her lips, An Xiaxia hurried into the room. She only let out a breath of relief when she saw Cola and Pepsi lying safely in their incubators.

“Xiaxia…” Sheng Qingyi called her name from outside and An Xiaxia looked in his direction with a conflicted feeling. Sheng Qingyi said apologetically, “I’m sorry…”

He had committed way too many wrongs to make up for and he knew very well that he wouldn’t get forgiveness with that apology.

Before An Xiaxia could say anything, Sheng Yize snorted and said, “There are a lot of things in this world that you can’t be forgiven for once you’ve done them just because you said you’re sorry.”

Sheng Qingyi sighed. Sheng Yize’s face turned grim as he said, “What you did won’t happen again. Touch my babies one more time and I can’t promise what I’ll do to you!”

“I hear you.” Sheng Qingyi looked at the babies again, reluctant to leave. “Can I just come here and see them, then?”

“No.” A soft but determined voice answered him.

Everyone turned to An Xiaxia in unison.

She looked right into Sheng Qingyi’s eyes. “They’re my babies and I’m sorry, but I don’t want you to see them. You can take me for a rude woman all you want, but I have that right. I hope you can respect that.”

She wouldn’t let her temporary sentiment change her mind; she wouldn’t put her children in danger again!

Even if public opinion would be against her or if it made Sheng Qingyi dislike her even more, she couldn’t care less.

Sheng Qingyi’s lips quivered. What An Xiaxia said had a great impact on him.

“I won’t come again if you don’t like it.” Sheng Qingyi smiled bitterly. He looked enviously at An Xiaxia and Sheng Yize, as well as the two babies behind them.

Once upon a time, his wife, Sheng Yize, and him had been a happy family, too…

He had ruined that family himself.

He sighed and gave Sheng Yize a meaningful look. Frowning, Sheng Yize followed him out.

When the two of them were alone, Sheng Qingyi cleared his throat. “The car accident that killed your mother back then… They have a new lead now.”

Sheng Yize said coldly, “I see. I’ll take Xiaxia to visit Grandpa¹ when we have the time.”

“Sigh… Do whatever you see fit. I wish you and Xiaxia a happy life together!”

“I’ll make sure of that.” The corner of Sheng Yize’s mouth lifted slightly. “But I do hope that you won’t show up for their month-old party.”

“Why?” Sheng Qingyi asked anxiously.
