When she rushed aggressively towards him in the attack, he saw her coming, but never defended himself at all. The sword cut through his heart and nailed him to a wall.

Naturally, no amount of weapons was able to hurt the master of the heavenly law. However, what Gu Xijiu used was a special technique that she had learned from Fan Qians.h.i.+, which was specifically tailored to killing the master of the heavenly law. 

As punishment for Di Fuyi's violation of the heavenly law, he was no longer clothed in an armor of proof. Gu Xijiu was his weakness, and also the only person who could ever truly kill him. Therefore, Gu Xijiu watched as Di Fuyi became immortalized under her sword and turned into faint streaks of light that wandered away. He wanted to explain himself, but never had the chance.
