Gu Xijiu grabbed his hand tightly as another realization struck. "Your soul is here as a whole! You did not even leave one small fragment behind to guard your body!" She felt an abrupt surge of anxiety in her body.

Deities were free to leave their bodies behind and travel using their souls. However, a small fragment of their soul must be left behind to ensure the survival of their physical bodies, or they would be as good as dead. Any delays would cause the body to disintegrate while all systems fail and die away.

Although Di Fuyi was a powerful man, his body was still a physical matter that would decay when without a soul to sustain its survival. All he had was a day to return to his body.

Unfortunately, the heat would certainly accelerate the rate of decay.

Panicked, Gu Xijiu expressed her utter disapproval at his actions, "You have always been a careful man. Why did you make such blunder this time?" She paused to take a deep breath before continuing, "We have to get out as soon as we can."

However, Di Fuyi stopped her. "You are still injured. Stay and rest. I will do the work," he instructed. Without further ado, he dived into the dark water and seemed to exit the wizardry barrier. 

Certainly, Gu Xijiu could not stay calm about the fact that he was diving deeper into the dark water. It was also when she saw another layer of wizardry barrier around him that she could ease her mind.

About two hours later, Di Fuyi finally returned.

Gu Xijiu examined his body to make sure he was unharmed. His skin was a little reddened, but he generally looked fine. She was relieved. "Did you manage to find anything?" 

The paleness of Di Fuyi's face indicated something was wrong. He reached out to Gu Xijiu and pulled her into a tight embrace. "Xijiu, I am sorry," he said with guilt.

"Hmm?"

"I am afraid that we cannot make it out. The dark water cell is built with a foundation of countless resentful spirits. Unless we can purify their grudge all at once, we will never make it out."

Gu Xijiu was speechless.

"When I first arrived, the desert was already swallowing the cities nearby. Many lives were taken away, all filled with resentment. I believe the calamity is still ongoing. This means that the strength of this prison will only grow stronger over time. It will be very difficult to purify."

Di Fuyi closed his eyes and hugged her tightly. "Xijiu, I am so sorry to let you down."

Now, his goal is achieved."

"Haha! It seems you are the real Di Fuyi! What a smart man! You are smart enough to have guessed it all, but it is too late!" A sudden voice emerged. Fan Qians.h.i.+ then made a graceful appearance on the outside of the water prison.
