"Is that so?" Haruka didn't seem surprised with her response and gave her hands a little squeeze. "Then, I'll leave that to you to decide."

Lila quickly realized what he meant, and she wanted to hit him. What's with that, leave it to her to decide thing? This man is truly shameless. Then again, isn't it her fault for being a pushover and letting him do whatever he wants? She needs to stand her ground around him.

7:00PM - Izaya Manor -

One of her mother's friends or rather a.s.sociate was the main sponsor for the event. So while Zane is the host, the actual souriee is held in this place.

'Attending a gathering like this with Haruka is strange.' Lila quietly observed her husband, who was engaging in conversation with people. Haruka is quite good at handling all these fake people. It shouldn't surprise her, but it does. Lila held up the cup in her hands and took a sip. She immediately pulled it away from her mouth and sighed.

It seems like she ought to avoid the drinks here. Lila thought that the drinks would be safe, but she could tell right away. It's spiked. But only a strong substance that will make hanyou's get drunk. So that means nearly everyone in the room. Some normal individuals are mixed with the crowd. So it's hard to tell what the side effects of the drink are.

Haruka walked back over, squeezed her hands, and kissed her behind her ear. Lila, who was patiently waiting for him, was caught off guard. "Um…"

"You keep looking at me wife. Do you need something?"

"I have a sweet fetish."

Haruka chuckled, "I see. Are you alright?" he suddenly changed his tone. "Do you feel uncomfortable?"

At that comment, her gaze softened. So that's why he spoke to those people. With Haruka talking to that ma.s.sive crowd, he could block Zane's sight. Indeed, a foolish person, isn't he?

"I'm alright, he can't do anything with all these people around," Lila muttered. Actually, he could, it didn't stop him last time. However, "I'm not weak, Haruka, I'll be okay."

Lila knew this was the wrong answer since Haruka frowned.

"Lila," he started. "I know you're not weak. But I want you to rely on me."

'Rely, huh?' It's not like she is doing this deliberately; she just finds it difficult to accept his kindness. But she truly wants to accept everything about him. Lila wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him lightly. "Alright, if I'm worried about anything, I will tell you, Haruka."

"You will?"

"I will tell you right away," she muttered against their lips before Lila could deepen the kiss however..

"Lila," Kiryu called out. "Come here for a second."

Lila stole a glance at Haruka, who frowned but nodded. "Come back, okay?"

"En, I'll be back."

She walked over to where Kiryu was - and noticed a group of familiar people. Among them was somebody she has not seen in a long time. 'Izumi,' Lila paused and wanted to say something to him, but she held herself back. Now isn't the time for such thoughts.

"Everybody is here," Kiryu pointed out.

Lila nodded; however, she was far too distracted. Is Haruka going to be okay without her?

"Then I'll raise the topic everyone is curious about. Is Karas.h.i.+ma Haruka on our side?"

'Stupid Ameno-senpai!!" Lila took a deep breath, "Do you have to ask?"

Why is the starting of the meeting this way? Is he doing it deliberately? No, even he wouldn't do that.

Lila did not mean to snap, but she could not help it. Ameno-senpai aside, even the others were criticizing Haruka. Kiryu had to drag her away before she did anything drastic. He pulled her to a quiet corner.

"Lila, you get too worked up when it comes to Haruka. Calm down."

"But…"

Kiryu sighed, "I understand how you feel. However, you do realize why everybody doubts him, right?"

"I do," Lila glanced down at her feet. "But all those rumors were lies; he didn't do anything."

"Yet he stood by and watched those people get hurt. Sometimes not doing anything is just as bad. He is equally guilty, Lila."

"Do you have to be so harsh?"

"You can't baby him forever," Kiryu trailed off. "Listen, you know I don't like this any better than you do."

"Why do people still suspect him?"

Kiryu took out some photographs from his pocket. Her eyes widened when she saw them - several photos of Haruka at a strange party and going to a hotel.

"They think he's cheating on me?"

"Some do, these photos are misleading. They took them in proactive angles.."

"Haruka won't cheat on me," Lila mumbled. "These photos mean nothing."

"Yeah, I know that too."

"But," Lila glanced over at the pictures one by one. "I wonder why he hid it from me."

"Well, Haruka is like you. He tends to do everything himself."

Lila looked at the photos carefully, "He looks very sad…" She never saw him this any before. Does Haruka look this way to other people? She doesn't want to see him like this.

"Lila?"

"Tell me where these places are, locate the people in the pictures."

Kiryu sighed, "You're going?"

"Mmm, I have to see with my own eyes. But it isn't hard to guess. Haruka only ever acts this way if it's something to do with me. Zane or Sophia most likely provoked him."

"Then I'll find out for you. But Lila, if you need help…"

Lila shook her head, "I will be okay."

"You're as stubborn as ever. But alright, call me if you need me."

"I know."

'It would be too cruel of her to keep asking him though..' Lila felt very conflicted whenever she thought of Kiryu's kindness. She understood that he meant well. But if she were to start relying on him again, then she would hurt someone in the process. Haruka isn't as petty as he was before, he has improved a great deal. However, she does not want him to think that she relies on Kiryu more than him.

Her thoughts drifted towards Haruka. 'But, could she ask him?' Kiryu means well, and she ought to at least give him this much. Maybe it's naïve of her to think that way. Looking over at where her husband was, she noted that businessmen no longer surrounded him. Instead, a woman was wearing a skimpy looking dress clinging to his arm.

She watched as Haruka moved her away and said something to her. Lila was too far to hear, but she could guess what it was.

Kiryu glanced over too and shrugged. "Even though you're here, I guess some people like to spite you on purpose."

She did not say a word and walked over. When she got closer, she saw how irritated Haruka was, and a relieved sigh pa.s.sed her lips. Lila hugged Haruka. "I'm back, hubby."

Haruka turned around and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Mmm, welcome back. You alright?" he gently caresses her cheeks.

She looked over at the girl with the ponytail, "Who?"

"Mm, acquaintance."

Just an acquaintance? But she was getting all clingy. Then again, how many times has this happened already? So many times. It is easy to guess the situation here. Lila sighed, how many more of these girls does she have to deal with? It gets tiring at times.
