She started crying.

As Gu Mohan looked at her tear-filled face, he couldn’t help but feel heartbroken, witnessing such a scene.

He felt as though someone was squeezing his heart tightly, the pain was sudden and strong. His Adam’s apple bobbed and his originally deep voice sounded ever so gentle. “I didn’t mean to be fierce to you, I’m sorry, please don’t cry…”

It was that same magnetic voice and tone that she was familiar with, he was coaxing her once again. It was her Mr Gu.

Tang Mo’er started sobbing even more, she whimpered, “Gu Mohan, just let go of me… We’ll both fall into the valley if you don’t…”

“I promise to not let anything bad happen to you, hm?”

Yes, she believed him.

Back when she had contracted the love pea poison, Mr Gu had rea.s.sured her in that exact same way. He promised to protect her and not let anything bad happen to her, and then… something bad happened to him instead.

She couldn’t let it happen again.

“Gu Mohan, it’s a shame that I won’t have the chance to hear you confess your love to me in this lifetime. But it’s okay. Remember to live on, and live well.”

Tang Mo’er twisted her wrist out of his grasp after she was done with her last words.

Her hands fell away from his palm, he tried to clutch on it tightly but it was useless.

Gu Mohan could only watch as Tang Mo’er fell down the valley. Her gla.s.sy eyes were clouded with tears, but her smile towards him was as radiant as the sun.

She wanted to leave those joyful memories for him, even if she was on her last breath.

Gu Mohan was tortured, he didn’t hesitate for even a moment and jumped down after her.

All that was on his mind was to follow Tang Mo’er down.

Her lithe body plunged downwards in a frightening free fall, she felt a crazed giddiness and terror consume her. In just a few moments, she would fall to her death.

Inside, she was extremely afraid.

If she were to really die in the wild, her corpse might be eaten up by the wild animals, removing all of her traces.

What a horrible way to die.

All of a sudden, she felt a strong arm grasping her waist and she was pulled into a warm embrace.

Tang Mo’er was stunned, she quickly lifted her head and saw Gu Mohan in front of her eyes.

Her pupils dilated with shock, and she tugged on his coat and forced out the words, “Gu Mohan, have you gone crazy?! Why did you jump down too?!”

Gu Mohan held the back of head and pressed her head in his chest. He planted a tender kiss on her head. “Don’t worry, I’m here for you.”

Don’t worry, I’m here for you.

Tang Mo’er was touched by his words and tears welled up behind her eyes. She had known that her Mr Gu hadn’t left. Her Mr Gu had never once left her at all.

Mr Gu had always been by her side.

“Mo’er, close your eyes, we’re going to hit the ground soon,” he muttered beside her ear.

Tang Mo’er hugged onto his trim waist even tighter, she beamed knowing that he was going to be there with her. She was no longer afraid.

Even if she were to die in the next moment, she was no longer afraid.

They fell into the valley and hit the ground at a terrifying speed, causing their bodies to roll about on the craggy ground. Through it all, Gu Mohan had protected her head with his hands, hugging her tightly in his arms, and she hadn’t felt any pain at all.

One minute later, they finally stopped rolling and Gu Mohan was now below Tang Mo’er.

Tang Mo’er felt her vision turn blurry when she first opened her eyes. She closed them again and blinked a few times before she managed to get a grip on herself. As she looked at the man under her, she panicked and scrambled up from him, panicked as she stared at his lifeless body. He was unconscious and his entire face was pale and clammy.

“Gu Mohan… Mr Gu, wake up? Hurry up and open your eyes, don’t scare me…”

Tang Mo’er didn’t dare to shake his body, she could only give him the lightest touch but she felt a weird stickiness on her hand.

Her hand was filled with blood.

It was from Mr Gu, he was injured!

Tears sprang from Tang Mo’er’s eyes as she cried, “Mr Gu, what’s wrong with you? Hurry up and open your eyes, I’m really scared…”

She was really afraid.

She was afraid of Mr Gu dying.

Her Mr Gu couldn’t leave her.

She suddenly felt something on her face, his callous fingertips had brushed across her face, wiping away her tears. She heard a husky, weak voice in her ears. “Don’t be afraid…”

Tang Mo’er was shocked to find that Gu Mohan had already regained consciousness.

“Mr Gu, you scared me so much! I thought that you were dead…” Tang Mo’er sprang into tears of joy. She quickly wiped them away with her hands.

How wonderful! Mr Gu isn’t dead!

Mr Gu is still alive!

Gu Mohan sat up. Surprisingly, he hadn’t sustained many injuries other than a lacerated right arm.

Lifting his head, he looked up at the dark sky. “Mo’er, let’s look for a cave to stay in for now.”

They managed to find a cave and were also lucky to find some branches and fire starters to keep themselves warm.

After the branches were lit up, Gu Mohan sat in front of the fire while Tang Mo’er started to bandage his wound. She had torn some fabric from her own clothing. The best she could do was to stop the blood.

“Mr Gu, that’s all I can do.”

Gu Mohan’s face was a little pale, but he remained calm and clear-headed. “It’s fine, it’s just that it’s too late right now. We can only wait for sunrise tomorrow before we can try to make our way out.”

“Mm.” Tang Mo’er nodded her head and sneezed. It was cold in the cave.

Though they already had a fire to keep themselves warm, it was almost approaching winter and when taking into account the cold temperatures in the cave, Tang Mo’er was freezing. She hadn’t been wearing much to begin with, and could only hug herself to try to keep warm.

But she suddenly didn’t feel cold anymore, Gu Mohan had draped his overcoat over her shoulders.

The overcoat was still warm from his body heat and it had covered her entire body, protecting her from the cold.

“Mr Gu, but won’t you feel cold after giving me your coat?”

Gu Mohan only had a white s.h.i.+rt on… he must have been freezing.

“No, men are able to tolerate the cold. You should have some rest.”

Tang Mo’er lay on a stack of straw while she looked at Gu Mohan. He sat on the ground with the fire lighting up his face, he still had his suave demeanor, even though he was disheveled after the ordeal down the mountainous terrain.

He was dressed lightly and must have felt cold too.

If he were to continue till sunrise tomorrow, his body was sure to collapse.

“Mr Gu…” Tang Mo’er called him.

As she was calling him, her voice was tender and sweet. Gu Mohan heard her and quickly turned back to check on her.

Her kitten headband was missing and her hair was released from its clasp. With her gla.s.sy eyes fixated on his face, she patted the spot beside her. “Mr Gu, come over and sleep here. It’s warmer. Let’s just sleep together.”

She wanted him to come over and sleep with her.

Gu Mohan was indeed feeling cold and her words were like a trigger, making his body temperature rise.
