"In the first place Lyn, I wonder why you underestimate yourself so much."

Lyn blinked, a confused look appeared on her face. 'Underestimate?' She was familiar with the term, but Lyn didn't know why Kazuya was saying that she was using it. But, now that she thought about the definition, she supposes it made sense. Her whole life, she just went along with what people said about her. Instead of trying to prove them wrong, Lyn simply went along with everything. She didn't try to change this. It's not like Lyn gave up on herself, but it was simply because she knew that it made no difference.

"I won't ever leave you alone."

"I know you've told me."

"No matter what you are, no matter what is in your past, that doesn't matter to any of us."

"By us, who do you mean Kazuya?"

Kazuya sighed, "I guess I can include Rhys there, d.a.m.n, I don't want to."

She wonders if that us also included Allen, Father, her eldest brother, and Shaarya. The people surrounding her who have treated her with kindness despite her circ.u.mstances. Unlike most cases, her situation isn't a bad one. Sure she grew up without the love and care of her family, without the status she deserved as a Princess.

Lyn suddenly felt Kazuya pull her into his arms, and she panicked, "Ah wait your wounds?"

"That doesn't matter now. Let me hug you, let me hold you. I missed you so much, Lyn."

Her eyes go wide at his words, and she clenched her fist, "You're the one who kept avoiding me, and whenever we were together, you kept your distance. I'm the one who should say I miss you, why do you keep using my lines?"

"I'm sorry, really, I'm sorry."

...

After she healed up Kazuya's injuries to a certain extent, the two of them sat side by side on the wall, hands laced with each other.

"So, did they do anything?"

Lyn immediately knew who Kazuya meant by they, and she slowly nodded. His expression turned ugly, and Lyn took a deep breath, "You understand Rhys well by now don't you? Surely you understood what would happen if you left me alone..with.."

"What did he do to you?"

What did he do? He kissed her but that type of kissing; it was wrong. Lyn shuddered, and Kazuya hugged her again, "What's the matter? Did he do something bad?"

"He tore my clothes..."

The look on Kazuya's face was already dangerous before, but now she felt a menacing aura surround him, "Oh? It seems like Rhys doesn't want to live anymore."

"Kazuya."

He gently kissed her lips and pulled away, "I'm sorry you had to go through that Lyn. I will not lie to you and say it will be okay. Rhys has no control when it comes to the girls he wants to per sue, and you seem to be different from all the others too."

"Kazuya, why are you, two friends?"

Kazuya deeply sighed, "Well that's a very long story, let's just say I trust him and that's why I thought you'd be okay. No matter what happens, I didn't think he would hurt you," he gently brushed his hand across her cheek. Kazuya's hand is devoid of it's usual warmth, being locked up here his hands are cold. But even then, Lyn leaned into his palm, "I'll protect you, but there's a limit to what I can do. Lyn, from now onwards you'll have to train more seriously."

"Will you teach me?" She doesn't think it's possible to train with Rhys anymore.

"Lyn, why don't you get your mentor to teach you? He taught you before, right?"

Why is he so reluctant to teach her? Lyn thought it was strange from the very beginning. It's not like Kazuya has a problem teaching others. She saw him teach the soldiers back in the castle; he's a good teacher. A lot better than Rhys, anyway. But he seems to be reluctant to teach her.

Still, "You'll always be my side, and accept me?"

"Yeah. No matter what."

But she's done some terrible things. While it was under the guise that she would be using her powers to help the people and for training. Lyn didn't like to use them. The magic, the power in her hands - it's something far too deadly. Something that should not exist in this world. It's because she had that mindset, that Lyn closed off her heart completely. Even when her surroundings got brighter, the general, Pupillam, Gabrielle, then later Kazuya and Rhys. Even when her social circle started to expand, Lyn still hesitated to open up her heart to anybody.

However, her gaze fell on Kazuya, 'He's so sure of himself,' Lyn thought. What makes him so confident? Anybody can say the words he just said to her now. Indeed, how many times has she heard people say such sweet, sugar-coated words? Even those with innocent and foolish-looking faces have said those words to her before.

"Kazuya, what am I to you? A tool? Or.."

Kazuya's eyes widened.

"Please tell me, I'm very confused," Lyn said as she looked down at the ground, "You tell me you love me, but then avoid me. Whenever we get closer, you remind me that were enemies and that I shouldn't get any closer. You even leave me be with other guys. Kazuya, I don't understand. What am I to you?"

It was a small outburst. But, Lyn could no longer contain these emotions. For the longest time, she held all of this back. Now that she has the opportunity to tell him these things. Lyn will make sure she tells him everything, "I, want to be with you all the time. That's all I ever wanted from you. But, Kazuya is that not enough?"

She knew that when this relations.h.i.+p started, it would come with its own set of problems. But Lyn thought it would be fine. No matter what happens, they could overcome everything together. However, more and more problems popped up. Problems she didn't know how to deal with.

"To me, your.."

"Necessary as a tool?"

Kazuya frantically shook his head, "Aargh geez, what is it with you all of a sudden?"

"I'm sorry," Lyn apologized, "I know I'm acting strange Kazuya. But I just want to know."

"You have the right to know, that's not why I'm irritated," Kazuya trailed off and deeply sighed, Lyn, I'm not a mind reader. Even if I understand you well, there are things I won't know until you tell me."

"Oh," Lyn said slowly. He does make a point there unless she says it. How is Kazuya supposed to guess?

Kazuya squeezed her hand, "So? What else do you want to say? Tell me everything."

"Kazuya, answer my question first."

At that comment, Lyn noticed that his calm demeanor had faded, and his cheeks had turned red. Wh--what? Why does he look embarra.s.sed for? It's not like she said anything to make Kazuya this embarra.s.sed. Unless it's because of her question? What is she to him...and it makes him embarra.s.sed. It was easy to figure out what Kazuya was thinking. But that didn't make it easier for her.

Did she just ask a stupid question?
