“Yuren, aren’t you going to greet Miss Lu?” Long Feng grinned to his commander.

Li Yuren shot him a glare, ignored his question, and continued to stare outside the balcony they were in.

“Well, at least you are doing a good job hiding from Sun Qiyan.” Long Feng continued to tease him, s.n.a.t.c.hing a bottle of wine from the waiter that pa.s.sed by and opening it with a loud pop.

“Don’t get wasted. We need to leave early for tomorrow.” Li Yuren warned him. The moonlight from the outside glimmered over his handsome face like beams of icy radiance.

The scowl that appeared in Long Feng’s face was instantaneous. It was rare for Li Yuren to attend events like this. If it wasn’t for his sister’s insistence, he wouldn’t bother to attend this party hosted by the Sun family.

What they hadn’t expected was Lu Xinyi and President Shen appearing at the same time. The couple had attracted most of the guests’ attention, but Li Yuren himself also got a share of his admirers—especially that Sun Qiyan who was fawning over him since they arrived.

Long Feng snorted and rolled his eyes at Li Yuren. Standing next to his commander, women would forget about his existence. Who wouldn’t be attracted to Li Yuren anyway? He was tall, lean, and beardless and had an ingenuously appealing face. He had a stubborn, arrogant face that could make everyone nervous under his gaze.

“Man, we just came back to the city, and we have to leave again? You’ll never find a wife at this rate!”

“What has it got to do with me having a wife?” Li Yuren countered. He had no plans on getting married anytime soon after Lu Xinyi ditched their engagement and married President Shen on an impulse.

“Yuren, I’m your friend. Of course, I’m worried about your future. You haven’t gone on a date for so long.” He grinned back at Li Yuren. There was no point for Li Yuren to wait for Lu Xinyi. She already had chosen Shen Yi over him.

When the couple came back to the party, Lu Xinyi excused herself to go to the restroom for a quick touch up. She checked her reflection in the mirror and was a bit startled by her appearance. In her haste to arrive on time for the party, she didn’t have enough time to appreciate the makeup the stylist did on her.

Well… she looked good. The makeup artist did a good job of hiding the pimple marks on her chin. She reached to her purse and took the same lipstick she used earlier and applied a new coat on her lips, careful to keep it smearing as it dried.

As she made her way outside, she couldn’t find her husband anywhere. She pulled out her phone and saw his message, telling him to wait as he’d need to give Qiao He a call in private.

Lu Xinyi decided to wait for him at the foyer near the ballroom.

“Miss Lu, what are you doing here alone? Did President Shen leave you?”

A masculine voice called out to her. Lifting her head, she saw a familiar man appear beside her. She was startled by his sudden appearance and stepped back in alarm. Wasn’t he that man standing behind her aunt earlier?

Lu Xinyi narrowed her eyes. She didn’t trust this man at all. What did he want from her?

“I’m not alone. My partner will be here soon,” she replied nonchalantly while making sure there’s a good distance between them. There was something off with this man. She didn’t like how this man stared at her at all.

“Nonsense, Miss Lu. Such a beauty like you shouldn’t be left alone.” Zuo Yin invaded Lu Xinyi’s private s.p.a.ce and gripped her elbow much to her horror. “Why don’t I escort you back inside? Your grandfather must be looking for you.”

When Lu Xinyi didn’t dare to make a move to follow him, his grip on her arm tightened. She tried to pull her arm back but failed.

“No, thank you. I’m sorry, mister, but I prefer to wait for my partner.” If he wouldn’t release her, she wouldn’t hesitate to slap this creep on his face and knee his groin.

Lu Xinyi dearly wished Shen Yi would come back soon and save her.

“She already said no. Are you still going to force yourself on Miss Lu?” Li Yuren spat the words dangerously to Zuo Yin. He appeared just in time with Long Feng beside him.

Zuo Yin loosened his hold at Lu Xinyi’s arm but didn’t release her.

“General Li!” Lu Xinyi was slightly relieved that someone appeared to save her from this creep.

“Ah, General Li. I see that you still cared about your ex-fiancee. Such a pretty lady, isn’t she?” Zuo Yin’s eyes gleamed with desire as he gave Lu Xinyi a head-to-toe look.

She was Li Yuren’s what? Lu Xinyi was once again stunned on this revelation. She looked at Li Yuren’s face, trying to gauge his reaction if Zuo Yin was lying or not. Li Yuren said nothing, but his eyes darkened.

Lu Xinyi was speechless. Was that the reason why Li Yuren had helped her several times because he was aware of who she was while she had no idea that all this time he was the fiance she ditched before?

When Li Yuren didn’t say anything, Zuo Yin thought he would leave them alone.

“Zuo Yin, what’s happening here?”

Sun Qiyan arrived with Chu Ting. They were both surprised to see Zuo Yin holding Lu Xinyi intimately.

“It’s nothing, Sister Qiyan. I’m just about to escort Miss Lu back to Chairman Sun,” Zuo Yin replied.

“Release Lu Xinyi now.” Li Yuren’s eyes flashed dangerously at Zuo Yin.

Long Feng scrunched up his face. Was Zuo Yin really this stupid? He must be really asking for a quick death from either Li Yuren or President Shen.

“Xinxin… come here.” The demon king himself appeared, his face one with indifference. He was clearly p.i.s.sed off to find his wife being surrounded by insects.

Zuo Yin stiffened and released Lu Xinyi. Shen Yi stared down at Zuo Yin with such contempt in his eyes.

Lu Xinyi sucked in a deep breath and stride swiftly beside her husband. She didn’t miss how Zuo Yin grimaced as she held Shen Yi’s hand and leaned on his body. She would absolutely choose her husband’s touch over this creep!
