"Are you sure? We were told to lay low while in Prince Ailwin's care…" One of his companions pointed out, clearly not liking Adamar's plan.

"We have a mission to do and being grounded here like this by Prince Ailwin wasn't one of them! Now, I was put in-charge of this group, and I say we are going to complete what we came here for with or without Prince Ailwin permission!" Adamar shouted in the face of the male who spoke out against his plan.

The cold crazed look in Adamar's eyes had the rest of his group backing down.

These cowards! Master had put me as the leader.... This is my chance to move up, I won't allow anyone to stand in my way.

"We will move out before nightfall."

"Yes, sir."

Feeling the full might of his authority, Adamar strutted around the camp while waiting for sundown to come.

Several hours into their hike, Mika and her group had finally reached their destination.

*Pant* *Pant* *Pant*

Everyone was breathing hard especially Nylian who had the carry the heavy trunk by himself. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click for visiting.

Ugh...my short legs are not made for hiking… Mika thought as she struugled to hop over a fallen log.

"Let's takes a short break before we enter the city." Mika sat down to rest on the fallen log as the others followed her lead to either sit on boulders or lean against a tree.

Looking up at the sky and then at her chronometer, Mika surmise that they had about a little more than two hours before the sun goes down.

"Okay guys, from this point forward, we will be using our codenames, understood?"

"Yes."

"Good, let's get into the city before we lose the light." After catching their breath for a few moments, they were able to make great time on reaching their entrance into the city.

Pointing to a section of the walls of Rowood city, Mika show the group to a secluded spot where a metal door is hidden behind over grown brushes.

"What? There's really a door here…" Nylian couldn't believe that a city would put a door in the middle of their barrier wall.

"Winter, freeze the lock." Mika said to Hycis.

"En." Walking up to the door and placing his hand over the locks, Hycis made a layer of ice form over the keyhole and door n.o.b.

"Good, stop... Silver, age the lock." Celaena took over Hycis' place in front of the door. Placing her hands over the keyhole, she aged the lock until it rusted over and disintegrated underneath her hands.

Once the door was opened, what they saw a long dark tunnel.

"Scorpion, you'll watch our backs…" Mika said to Nylian as she took vanguard. Hycis and Celaena were placed in the middle and had to carry the trunk together.

Entering the tunnel with their wristbands lighting their way, Mika led them through the twist and turns of the secret pa.s.sageways.

They travelled this way for more than an hour before they could finally feel the wind again on their faces.

"About time…" Nylian said, voicing out everyone's relief.

The last rays of light from the setting sun lit up the dark tunnel's exit, making the group squint a little from the change.

"Where to now?" Nylian asked after taking a look around the area. They had obviously come from underground into the back alleyways.

He surmized that the tunnels must have been dug by looters. He shook his head at the craftiness of criminals.

"What's wrong?" Hycis asked after seeing Nylian shake his head and suck his teeth.

"This tunnel was made and use by no good scoundrels…"

"Scoundrels? You mean crooks?... Then how did she find out about it?" Hycis wondered as he jerked his head in Mikaela's direction.

...Because she is probably the biggest villain of them all…

Mika suddenly turned her head to look Nylian's way. Shocked that she might have heard his inner thoughts, Nylian react on reflex.

"Wh What?"

Mika looked at Nylian then looked at the tall buildings behind him.

"There." Mika pointed at the building they could barely see, "We need to head in that direction…. Scorpion, trunk." Mika said as she began walking in the direction she pointed to.

A thirty minutes into their journey, they all realized that there was virtually no one outside. Mika, in particular, found this to be quite odd.

"Hold on…" Mika suddenly stopped when they reached a residential neighborhood.

"What is it?" Celaena asked, thinking that someone was following them.

"I think the city is empty." Mika stared hard at multiple residences' windows as the sun had set and they only had the moonlight for illumination.

"What do you mean?" Celaena looked around as she came to stand shoulder to shoulder with Mika.

"Look at all these homes, no one has come out to question us nor I've a seen a single curtain move or house lights being turned on. If you were to see strangers walking down your street, especially ones with masks on their faces, wouldn't you be curious on who they are?"

Since the time they walked deeper and deeper into this city, Mika had the nagging feeling that it was a ghost town.

Celaena glance around at the many small houses lining the street and realized Mika might be right. This city is too quiet.

"Why don't we knock on a door?" Hycis suggested, already walking towards the closest house.

*Knock* *Knock*

When no one answered he giggled the handle and the door opened easily without any force.

"h.e.l.lo?" Hycis stood in the doorway looking into a dark house. Struggling his shoulders he walked into the a.s.sumed empty house with his wristband light ON. He searched around the other rooms before coming back to the front door where everyone else was gathered.

"There's no one here. It's like they all just left."Hycis couldn't understand it as all of the homeowners things were still inside.

"Let's check a few more houses on the way…" Everyone agreed with Mika' suggestion as they continued on check every fifth or so house along the way towards their destination.
