"It's been four minutes already." Feng Junjie alternated his gaze between his watch and the dark water of the ocean.

The helicopters flashed the searchlight from above to help Feng Jianyu find Xiu Mei.

"Get the s.h.i.+p here. Keep the blankets and heaters ready. I need everyone on standby, be ready to pull them up as soon as you see Jianyu. Get Dr. w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ here right now" Lu Xion instructed before jumping into the ocean from the yacht followed by many of his men.

After knowing Xiu Mei is left on the Island, Feng Jianyu changed the ride and hoped onto Feng Jin's chopper with the help of the rope while Lu Xion took over the command of the water vehicles.

It was pre-decided by Xiu Mei and Feng Jianyu that w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ would not be taking part in the fight. Instead, he will be on a stand-by, ready for any medical emergency.

Dr. w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ was instantly flown down to the spot, his helicopter was installed with emergency equipment.

The military s.h.i.+p in their fleet had a helipad. Zian instantly disembarked from his helicopter and got on the s.h.i.+p to help w.a.n.g s.h.i.+.

Standing alongside w.a.n.g s.h.i.+, Zian waited for Jianyu and Xiu Mei.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ noticed Zian trembling. "Zian…. What's wrong?"

Zian said with quivered lips. "S-Sheng shot her in the skull." He is a doctor, knows the consequences of being shot in a skull. Just how many people survive after being shot in the head? He doesn't even want to think of the stats that keep appearing in front of his eyes.

"WHAT?" w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ got shocked. He turned to look at the people standing behind him. They all contained the same expression as that of Zian.

He took a deep breath to calm down first. He made Zian look at him holding the back of his neck. "You better get your head in this. If you can't hold your mind then back off right now, I'll treat her. I don't want a doctor like you beside me who trembles in an emergency."

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ was in constant touch with Feng Junjie and came to know that Zian is Xiu Mei's brother. He knows he was being harsh on Zian who was still young but right now what Xiu Mei needs is Dr. Zian, not her brother Mo Zian.

Lu Xion came up, he swam towards the s.h.i.+p's ladder.

Feng Jianyu followed after a few seconds; he was holding unconscious Xiu Mei.

Feng Junjie was standing at the last step holding a blanket; he along with Rong Xiang pulled Xiu Mei up. Knowing Feng Jianyu and Lu Xion must be out of breath they were prepared beforehand.

From there Dr. Zian and w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ took over and hurried her to the chopper. "Fast, she is freezing cold."

Feng Jianyu ran towards the chopper.

"Qinqin…"

"Qinqin"

Bai Xin and Huo Feng stopped Mo Zhichan and Zeng Ruo who ran towards their daughter. "Mr. Mo, Mrs. Mo, they are going to the hospital. Please…. Let's follow in them in the other chopper." Bai Xin requested politely.

Neither there was any s.p.a.ce in the helicopter not she wanted to let Xiu Mei's parents see their daughter in this condition.

"Uncle, Aunty… come with me." Holding their hand Lu Xion took them to the other helicopter waiting at the helipad.

Zian laid Xiu Mei down on the stretcher. w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ checked her pulse, eyes, and vitals.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "She's hypothermic, freezing cold. No pulse, no vitals, pupils barely reacting. GCS three."

"Swap with me. I'll intubate her and check the severity of her head injury." Zian said while giving her chest compressions.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "I need to give her warm saline and attach the portable monitor….." He looked at Jianyu who was staring at Xiu Mei with blank eyes. "Jianyu, if you want to see her alive…. Take over chest compressions. NOW."

Feng Jianyu moved robotically and started giving her hard chest compressions. He knows how to do it, but he also knows how painful it is. Breaking of one or two ribs is common when giving chest compressions.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "Dammit, I can't find her vein. Putting an I/O line." He lifted the blanket up to her knees, numb the area and with the IO device he drilled the hole below the medial condyle before inserting the IO line.

After intubating Xiu Mei, Zian squeezed the Ambu bag to give her oxygen with one hand while from the other he tried to take out the paper clips with which she has tied her hair into a bun.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "Her temperature is 74 degrees we need to bring it to 86 before restarting her heart.  I can't give her epi, her heart is not circulating it'll get pooled up in her system that could be dangerous."

Suddenly the portable monitor starting beeping loudly....

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ looked at the monitor: "That's V-fib…" He pulled out the defibrillator. "Jianyu open the blanket…." Feng Jianyu knows what it is, he does as said and continue giving compressions.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ tore off her dress from the chest, leaving her in a bra before attaching the adhesive pads, one on the right chest while the other below the b.r.e.a.s.t on the left side. "Charged to 300 joules. Clear."

Zian and Feng Jianyu pulled away from Xiu Mei.

She jolts up because of the shock.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "Back to asystole. Resume compressions."

Feng Jianyu silently started compressions once again, watching the two doing all types of scary and painful things to her frail body. He made his heart of stone, controlling himself. Only he knows how much he hated himself right now.

"For better circulation, we need interposed abdominal CPR to circulate her whole body at the rate of 100 beats per minutes," Zian said while trying to get the d.a.m.n clips out of her hair. "Why the h.e.l.l she secured her hair with so many paper clips…. Ahh…. Finally, out." He opened her hair bun….

"Not only that, she needs dual chest tubes and a thoracic lavage." w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ turned back and yelled at the pilot. "Fast! We are running out of time."

*THUDDD…..*

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "What was that sound?"

Zian: "Don't know, something fell off from her hair." He ignored it and run his hand in her hair, looking for the bullet injury. "I can't see any bullet injury….Even the blood on my hands is not much." He frowned.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+: "Maybe she was not hit by any bullet. Isn't it good?"

Zian didn't answer but shared a glance with Feng Jianyu. Everyone saw what happened, it was because of the force of the bullet that her head propelled forward and she fell into the ocean.

w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ eyed Feng Jianyu who was giving compressions non-stop. "Let me take over. You rest."

"I'm not tired." Feng Jianyu said looking at Xiu Mei's face that looked as if all the blood was sucked out from her body. "No matter how long it takes, I will keep her heart alive. Please…. Don't give up on her."

He can't fold his hands right now but begged the two men with his eyes. "If it requires, take every organ of my body, but keep her alive. Please…. I beg you."

"No one is giving up. I've seen people last several hours. Hypothermia is actually protective to her vital organs. Until I warm her body back to 86, I'm not giving up." w.a.n.g s.h.i.+ pushed away Jianyu forcefully and took his position to continue compressions. "I'm a wors.h.i.+pper of science but I've seen miracles happeni in my hospital. They do happen."

They continue looking after Xiu Mei who was technically dead but three stubborn people on the helicopter were keeping her heart beating by manual compressions, and artificial oxygen.
