Shangguan Ning felt that she had no more to say to Xie Zhuojun, so she stood up after seeing that he was fine. “Take rest, and I will go check on my father.”

The formidable and commanding Shangguan Zheng was lying in the sickbed. He looked pale and weak like any ordinary old man. Wrinkles had covered his face and his hair had gone grey.

He was lying in the sickbed quietly in the ward, totally alone. Both Yang Wenshu and Shangguan Rouxue were missing. He was still in coma and he hadn’t woken up.

The doctor said that he was fine, except that he had been deeply affected by something for his heart to bear it. What he needed was a few days’ rest.

Shangguan Ning already knew the reason for Shangguan Zheng’s current state. She found him very pathetic.

She remembered that on the day when her mother committed suicide, Shangguan Zheng hadn’t reacted much except for displaying some sadness.

And today, he wasn’t able to bear the truth that he had failed to be the Mayor and remained the Deputy Mayor. Such was the impact, that he got so upset and his heart couldn’t take it.

What Shangguan Ning didn’t understand was that why was he still aspiring for a higher position when he was already in his 50s. He was already in a position that the general folk admired, yet he was still not satisfied.

She wished that he was an ordinary father, not a Deputy Mayor.

Knowing that he was fine, Shangguan Ning got up to leave after sometime. She had never been close to Shangguan Zheng because he had given all of his fatherly love to Shangguan Rouxue. She felt as if she was looking at a stranger when she sat next to him.

But before Shangguan Ning managed to walk away from the ward, Shangguan Rouxue walked in.

Her eyes were red from crying. It must have been because Yang Wenshu ripped Xie Zhuojun’s face off.

Shangguan Ning couldn’t help but s.h.i.+ver when she thought of Yang Wenshu’s scary face lunging at her, the moment she entered the door.

Had it been because Shangguan Zheng was in coma, or because she hated Ning to the bones, that Yang Wenshu’s mask of gentleness which she had kept intact for years, was ripped off completely.

Shangguan Rouxue was still trying to show herself to be pitiful and kind. It was not clear what she was up to.

“Sister, daddy just pa.s.sed out all of a sudden. I am so worried. He will be fine, won’t he?”

“No one is here, so go ahead and say what you want. I am quite tired of watching you pretend!”

Shangguan Ning knew all the tricks and acting skills of Shangguan Rouxue’s. She was not moved at all.

“Sister, Zhuojun and I are getting married! Can’t you just forget the past and give us your blessing?” Shangguan Rouxue’s eyes were still full of tears. She looked as if she had been wronged.

“I can forget the past, but giving you my blessing is impossible. I am already being kind enough not to curse you two! If you are showing off that you have succeeded in becoming his woman, then you don’t need to do that, because you succeeded in that four years ago, the moment you entered his bed. Shangguan Ning sneered, opened the door and walked out.

Shangguan Rouxue followed her out. She kept calling her “Sister”, causing everyone at the hospital to turn to look at them.

When Shangguan Ning came to the staircase, Shangguan Rouxue caught up with her.

Then he bent down and felt the knee which Shangguan Rouxue had kicked. He asked in concern, “Does it hurt? Is it ok? Let me take you to Mu Qing!”

Shangguan Ning shook her head and held him by his tapered waist as she said softly. “It is okay. You are enough. It doesn’t hurt now that I have seen you.”

She had been so afraid a moment ago at the thought of falling down but he appeared in time when she needed him most.

She felt that she was the Cinderella in a fairy tale whilst Jing Yichen was the Prince Charming who was always by her side.

That was the first time Shangguan Ning spoke with Jing Yichen in this way. She had always been bashful and didn’t know how to act as a spoiled girl. But when she spoke in such a manner, he was instantly moved.

Jing Yichen couldn’t resist kissing her, then he scooped her up and started walking.

Without looking at Shangguan Rouxue, he spoke in a cold voice, “I will take double revenge for Ning for today’s incident. I hope you live long enough to taste it!”
