Xie Zhuojun knew how much Shangguan Rouxue cared about her job. She would have never asked for a sabbatical. So maybe what Shangguan Ning was saying might be true – she really had made Shangguan Rouxue lose her job!

He left Jingsheng Enterprise immediately. He found Shangguan Rouxue at Family Shangguan House. He wanted to ask her if she really went to a movie set, to plead with them for a role, while she was carrying his child. He wanted to know if it was true that Shangguan Ning had truly made her lose her job as a television hostess.

He couldn’t believe that Shangguan Ning would be so heartless!

The moment Xie Zhuojun entered the house, Shangguan Rouxue spotted him, from where she stood, on the second floor. She hurried downstairs and threw herself into his arms. She said sweetly, “Finally you are here, Zhuojun! I thought you were too angry to come and visit me.”

She was very happy that Xie Zhuojun still loved her and cared about her.

He had come to see her the moment he got to know that she was feeling unwell.

She had nothing left and she mustn’t lose Xie Zhuojun!

Xie Zhuojun pushed Shangguan Rouxue away from him and asked seriously, “Xue, did you shoot for a movie?”

His words made Shangguan Rouxue’s heart skip a beat or two.

With tears in her eyes, she asked innocently, “Zhuojun, so you aren’t here to see me? Why aren’t you asking me about my health?”

Xie Zhuojun was no longer as gentle as he used to be. He frowned impatiently. “Oh yeah? Are you feeling unwell? Then please see a doctor, because I am not one!”

Shangguan Rouxue’s tears trickled down her cheeks because of how rude he was to her.

Maybe Xie Zhoujun had no idea that she was unwell – she thought to herself.

When she called w.a.n.g Lu yesterday and told her about her ill health, w.a.n.g Lu had said a few kind words to her and promised her that she would have Xie Zhuojun call her soon. Apparently, w.a.n.g Lu had lied to her and never told him anything.

Shangguan Rouxue’s eyes were full of anger but she let the moment pa.s.s. She threw herself into Xie Zhuojun’s arms once again. “I don’t want to see the doctor. I don’t like how hospitals smell. I feel better, now that you are here!”

Earlier, Xie Zhuojun would have found her to be charming and endearing, but now all he wanted was to push her off his arms

Shangguan Rouxue did look sick. Her face was pale and she had gotten much thinner. Her exquisite chin looked even more sharp.

Xie Zhuojun was, after all, still in love with her. He didn’t push her away this time but persevered with his query. “Tell me Xue, did you shoot for a movie?”

Shangguan Rouxue looked up from his arms and tears twinkled in her eyes. “Zhuojun, do you trust me or not? Of course, I didn’t! You didn’t want me to enter the entertainment industry, so why would I do such a thing?”

“But Ning told me that you went for an audition yesterday.” Xie Zhuojun said unsurely. Shangguan Rouxue was saying something that was in total contrast to Shangguan Ning’s version.

“Ah, did sister really say that?” Shangguan Rouxue feigned surprise. Then she said in a pitiful tone. “Sister must still be angry with me. Maybe that’s why she told you that. I did go to the casting studio yesterday, but all I wanted to do was to update the Director about my situation and thanked him for thinking that I was capable of carrying off such a role. The Director wanted me to play the part of the leading female protagonist and every other member in the cast was confirmed too. I was the only one who had still not signed the contract because I wanted to explain my stance to him and apologise to him, in person.”

Xie Zhuojun looked at Shangguan Rouxue suspiciously.

Which one of the two sisters was telling him the truth?

During the past four years, Shangguan Rouxue and Shangguan Ning kept giving him different versions of things, just like they were doing now. Earlier, he would have chosen to believe Shangguan Rouxue in a heartbeat.

But now, his trust in her wavered.

Shangguan Rouxue saw the hesitation in Xie Zhuojun’s eyes. She got a bit nervous and then hugged Xie Zhuojun, holding him by his waist. She was in tears when she said,”You must believe me, Zhuojun. I love you so much and I care so much about you. You and your parents don’t like me being part of the entertainment industry so I will definitely honour your wishes. Also, I am pregnant now and I will regard baby as the most important. How would I ever shoot for a movie in this condition?”

Xie Zhuojun may have been naive and he may have loved her but that didn’t necessarily mean that he was stupid beyond cure.

He was no longer going to take Shangguan Rouxue at face value, especially since he was surrounded by so many lies and deceit.

“What about your job as a television hostess? Did Ning make you lose your job?”

Shangguan Rouxue was scared but her facial expressions gave away nothing.

She mustn’t let Xie Zhuojun know that she was fired by the channel. Her ident.i.ty was nothing, if she couldn’t be a television hostess.

“Sister… told the TV Station that I was pregnant. So the TV Station decided to let me take some rest. Zhuojun, you mustn’t blame Sister. She was just too upset with me and didn’t care enough to keep my secret. Also, the TV channel wanted me to take a sabbatical anyway. When the baby is slightly older, I will be allowed to resume.”

Xie Zhuojun was a bit confused. He wasn’t able to tell how truthful Shangguan Rouxue’s version was. She sounded so reasonable and everything she said seemed to make perfect sense.

He must have been cheated by Shangguan Rouxue so many times before. Had she always been telling him these half baked stories, just to cover the truth, like she was doing right now?

He felt sorry for his ignorance.

Was he really such an idiot? Was he so gullible in Shangguan Rouxue’s eyes?

Xie Zhuojun refused to be treated like a fool. He didn’t want to live his entire life guessing whether Shangguan Rouxue was telling him the truth or not.

A few minutes later, his stance softened. He thought he was being too harsh to her but soon he took control of his emotions. He did not want his emotions to get the better of him. He said, “Xue, let’s go to the hospital.”

Shangguan Rouxue stiffened. She asked nervously, “Zhuo… Zhuojun, why are we going to the hospital?”

Xie Zhuojun ran his fingers through her long hair and said with a smile, “You said that you are not feeling very well, right? Let the doctor check you up, just to see that there is no serious complications with you or the baby.”

Shangguan Rouxue relaxed a bit, hearing his explanation. But she still said, “I don’t want to go to the hospital. I am fine, please just keep me company. I am tired. Carry me upstairs so that I can get some rest, okay?”

Unmoved, Xie Zhuojun said to her, “We must go to hospital. I have already taken an appointment with the doctor. He must be waiting. Let’s go now.”
