Chapter 360: Boy or Girl?

Before Shangguan Ning got pregnant, Jing Yichen had no strong feelings towards children.

He felt that things should flow naturally and it did not matter when he was going to get a child. He had not been as anxious as Shangguan Ning.

For him, Shangguan Ning was the only person in his heart who satisfied him and was enough for him. He had given all of his love to her and spent all the energy and attention upon her only.

He couldn’t imagine what it would be like when he becomes a father. He was a ruthless and distant person and felt that even if he got a child, he would not change that much, because he would only love Shangguan Ning.

But it turned out to be different from what he had imagined.

The moment he knew that Shangguan Ning was pregnant, his heart had leapt up with joyful emotions. It was a feeling far beyond description.

He finally understood why Shangguan Ning had always wanted to be a mother.

Women tended to have much more affection than men, especially when it came to children. In the case of most parents, mother was more devoted than the father, not because of the labor division at home, but because women were born that way.

Shangguan Ning liked children, which Jing Yichen had known right at the beginning of their marriage.

Everytime when they were walking in the compound or on the wooden plank by the seash.o.r.e, she would stare at children with a gentle look for a long time if they ran into any. He could imagine that she would be a very good mother rearing her child with love and patience.

Whenever Jing Yichen saw those children in the compound, he never had any reaction. Nor did he allow any child to touch him, let alone play with one.

But after Shangguan Ning got pregnant, his mind underwent a complete change.

He began to love children and his heart would soften now whenever that he saw them. He didn’t even react badly if any child happened to touch him. That was an incredible feat in Jing Yichen’s eyes.

He changed so much just because of the fact that Shangguan Ning had become pregnant with his baby. He still couldn’t believe that she was going to be the mother of their child.

“Ning, I am really happy. I will definitely take good care of you and the child. Thank you, my darling. It feels fantastic.”

Jing Yichen’s voice was gentle and indulgent, making Shangguan Ning’s heart flutter.

She stretched up on her toes to kiss Jing Yichen’s chin. She was beaming as well. “It feels fantastic. I am going to be a mother! There will be three of us. I am delighted and grateful.”

Shangguan Ning had not yet made any changes in her daily life because her pregnancy didn’t give her any discomfort. Because of this, she kept suspecting that she might be dreaming and the next day she would wake up and find herself not pregnant.

But today when all of her favourite things were taken away by Jing Yichen and she was forbidden to wear high-heels, she finally felt that she was going to be a mother.

She was also concerned about her little baby. She understood how Jing Yichen felt at the moment completely, because she felt the exactly same thing as well.

Jing Yichen placed a hand upon her belly gently and said with disbelief and joy, “He is here now. We are waiting for him to grow up. It is going to be so good… with our baby!”

Shangguan Ning had never heard him talk in this tone. She smiled involuntarily, “Yes, he is growing up. I hope that he will grow to be like you, as handsome and as smart as you!”

Jing Yichen was fascinated by what she said. He pinched her beautiful nose as he said with a smile, “How did you know it is a boy? Maybe she is a girl. Then she will be like you, beautiful and smart.”

Shangguan Ning said in a-matter-of-fact tone, “Grandpa says that it will be a great-grandson. He says that it is a tradition that Family Jing always has boys. I believe what he says.”

Jing Yichen thought that either would do. But Shangguan Ning preferred boys. She really wanted to give birth to a Jing Yichen junior.

She felt that both daughter and son would look very good if they resemble Jing Yichen more.

He was so handsome and had lovely eyes and she wanted the same for her child.

Jing Yichen burst into laughter and kissed her cheek. “Don’t believe Grandpa. He is just saying so. He couldn’t possibly know anything when Grandpa Mu doesn’t know it yet.”

Shangguan Ning slipped her hands around his broad waist and buried her face into his chest as she asked, “Do you prefer a son or a daughter?”

She had been holding back the question for a long time before finally asking it.

She felt that Family Jing would certainly hope that it was a boy – grandpa had already put his thought across that he wanted a great-grandson.

Therefore, Shangguan Ning somehow felt pressured.

Jing Yichen knew Shangguan Ning more than she understood him. He was aware of this little concern in her heart.

He looked her directly into the eyes and said seriously, “I would like either, as long as it is your baby. So will father and grandpa. They want an heir, but if you give us a girl, I am sure that they will love her deeply too. No girls have appeared in five generations of Family Jing and if you do give birth to a girl, she is definitely going to be a loved princess.”

Jing Yichen was telling the truth. Family Jing would like the baby no matter if it was a girl or a boy. If it turned out to be a boy, then he would get treated the way he ought to be treated. But if it turned out to be a girl, Jing Zhongxiu, who had always wanted a daughter would treat the baby as a treasure. So would Jing Tianyuan.

“You don’t need to be worried or feel concerned. Our child will be the best, irrespective of gender.”

Shangguan Ning was so moved by his words that she became teary eyed.

He understood how she felt and was trying to soothe her bewilderment with his sincerity.

She was just overthinking the whole matter.

Jing Yichen was sure that he would adore their child, so would grandpa and father, be it a boy or a girl.

Shangguan Ning let out a sigh of relief inside her heart. She liked that all men of Family Jing were influential and strong, always defending her, protecting her and spoiling her, treating her as their own.
