Chapter 719: An Honorable Death

“Cough cough!”

Qin Baichuan coughed slightly and spat out blood. There were some impurities in his blood and were likely bits of damaged internal organs.

Blood leaked out of the corner of Lin Tianxiong’s mouth too. His left hand was still trembling at that moment, and as the meridians on his hand were practically ruined, that arm could be considered useless.

They had to face Grade-A creatures even though their inner force was only at the adept stage. The slightest misstep could cost their lives. Even if their opponent simply used spiritual energy as a defense mechanism and stood there to let them attack it, the powerful repelling force was unbearable and they would be lucky to survive that.

The gap in strength was just too huge.

It was like an ordinary person who punched boulders—the repelling force increased proportionate to the amount of strength.

“Come on, let’s head to the battlefield.”

Qin Baichuan looked at the direction of the battlefield and spoke in a hoa.r.s.e voice.

Ye Lingchen opened his mouth but said nothing in the end. He followed them toward the battlefield, and at that point, any inner force warrior could wipe the floor with those old men in their present state.

“I’m the only living one out of four special training camps’ instructors.” Qin Baichuan looked back at the body of Blue Wolf’s Chief Instructor and felt saddened..

Ye Lingchen was lost for words as well. He was also familiar with all four special training camps’ instructors. Three of them died unexpectedly, and if he had not rushed there, Qin Baichuan and Lin Tianxiong would have been dead too.

The battle had just ended when the three of them returned to the battlefield. Many people had collapsed on the ground.

It was only then that Ye Lingchen had time to focus on h.e.l.l’s Gate.

The so-called h.e.l.l’s Gate was not a door, but a vortex in the void which was surrounded by black s.p.a.ce-like cracks. The aura around it was condensed into a mist, and the vortex itself—which had a diameter of about 10 feet—was a magnificent sight.

Behind that vortex was another world.

“Guardian Ye, Old Qin and the others praised you a lot when they were with me. Their judgement proved to be good! I am the Deputy Director, Chen Qi.” Chen Qi stood beside Ye Lingchen. “Thank you for coming this time.”

Qin Baichuan and Lin Tianxiong looked at the battlefield silently and kept quiet.

The setting sun looked like blood, with the glow reflecting the desolation in the mountain of corpses and sea of blood.

Ye Lingchen suddenly thought of something and asked. “Deputy Director Chen, what’s the state of our casualties? And… Their bodies…”

Chen Qi’s expression sank as he muttered, “Three Innate Stage Warriors are dead, while more than a hundred adept level Acquired Stage Warriors have been killed. More than two hundred Inner Force Warriors died and the entire army of ordinary Warriors…was wiped out. However, we killed a total of two Grade-A+ creatures, seven Grade-A creatures, and more than two thousand Grade-B and C creatures.”

The strength of those Void Realm’s creatures started at the level of an Inner Force Warrior. With such a huge difference in strength, the Warriors had not only won, but even killed two peak level Innate Stage masters, which was a big win for them.

If not for the lack of numbers, they would definitely be able to wipe out the army of creatures.

Warriors who were allowed to enter the battlefield were elites whose combat strength rivalled creatures that were on the same level. The reason humanity could prosper and survive the onslaught from the Void Realm was because of the unyielding spirit pa.s.sed on by those elites.

However, China’s spirit had changed, and it was no surprise that even the Warrior’s Department was forced to ask Ye Lingchen to take action and suppress little fresh meat.

Ye Lingchen was not feeling too happy despite the big win. His eyes were a little blank, and the only emotion he felt was distress. The blood which painted the ground red had a direct impact on his state of mind.

Those warriors were still laughing and chatting happy with each other yesterday. From the mult.i.tude of corpses, Ye Lingchen noticed some of the warriors who had been on Miracle Island. ‘Do you know that Drawing Sword is really popular right now? Don’t you want to read the audience’s comments?’

“This is war. Death is inevitable.”

Qin Baichuan tended to Lin Tianxiong’s wound and took a deep breath. “There is nothing to be sad about when dying in battle.”

“Yes. This is their choice. It’s a win if you can kill just one more creature before you die. If you don’t dare to kill the enemy, your only choice is to wait and die together. I’m not dead yet, but I won’t have any regrets if I die. I’ve killed two Grade-B creatures in this battle!” Lin Tianxiong proclaimed.

They were all worried about Ye Lingchen’s psyche at that point.

Chen Qi said solemnly, “These remains will be buried near here. I hope that they will see us break into the Void Realm one day! If I die, I’ll be buried here too! Better yet, I hope to be buried in the Void Realm!”

“That’s right! Be a man and dive straight into the Void Realm! Even if you’re ready to die, it’d be better to die after attacking the Void Realm!” an Innate Stage Warrior walked over and said.

Everyone kept quiet and stared deep into h.e.l.l’s Gate.

“We’ve survived for now and everyone’s tasks have been completed. The Warrior’s Department will compensate you, but… our resources are very limited now, so please… Forgive us!” Chen Qi was ridden with guilt.

Lin Tianxiong said to Ye Lingchen. “Void Realm creatures won’t bring anything precious with them when they launch their attacks. As for weapons, the ones that are of value are only those used by creatures above Grade-A, so there’s very little loot for us. The battlefield is on our planet too, and even if we win, we’re only barely able to defend against them and there’s nothing we can get from the Void Realm. In terms of resources, we are severely lacking, but we hope you won’t grumble too much about it.”

Lin Tianxiong gave Ye Lingchen a heads-up because he knew the latter was not someone who put in extra effort if there was nothing in it for him.

Ye Lingchen cleared his throat awkwardly. “What do you take me for, Old Lin? Guarding Earth is also my responsibility, it’s just that this sacrifice and your injury…”

On that occasion, he managed to get the female creature’s crossbow, spear, mace, and two sabers, which was a big enough gain in itself.

These weapons are obviously made of special materials from the Void Realm. Not only were they tough, they were also able to incorporate spiritual power, making them absolutely extraordinary products.

“The families of those sacrificed soldiers will be compensated, which also includes a sum for their meritorious deeds. The Warrior’s Department will provide medical treatment for us, and there will always be medicine no matter how serious our injuries are,” Qin Baichuan said. “As for the spoils, they’ll belong to you of course.”

“Old Lin, Old Qin, you’ve contributed a lot in the final attack. Chief Instructor Yu helped a lot too. I’ll take this mace, but these two sabers will belong to you,” Ye Lingchen said.

Qin Baichuan immediately shook his head. “You were responsible for trapping them and killing them. Our efforts are nothing. You can keep the spoils.”

“Old Qin, if you don’t want it yourself, it’d be better to give it to Old Yu and Old Lin. Old Lin’s arm is in urgent need of medication and Old Yu died in battle. This is the time when they need money the most.”

“You’ve got a good conscience, Kid,” Old Qin smiled and remarked after keeping quiet for a moment.

Chen Qi also smiled and said, “You can go to the merits department to sell the spoils in exchange for merit points. You’ll be able to get merit points that correspond to the value of the weapon.”

“Alright, let’s go back to the Martial Arts Pavilion.”

At the battlefield, the warriors who were only slightly injured stayed behind the wall while the rest helped each other up and made their way back…
