"What should I do?" Lin Meirong muttered to herself as she sat on the couch with both hands cradling her head. 

Since that last phone call withMu Jianyu, she had been at her wits end trying to figure out what she should do next. Li Xiuying's memory loss was like a ticking bomb that has the capability to return all the memories that she could use against her. 

Why was that woman so lucky anyway? They were both born with a beautiful face but how come Li Xiuying got all the wealth and recognition Gu Changge never had in her life? 

It was too unfair. It was all because she wasn't born with the same privilege and opportunities as Li Xiuying. 

Mu Jianyu was determined to return to Li Xiuying and she couldn't let him nor the Li family destroy her that easily. The only thing that was preventing it from happening was the child in her womb that wasn't even his, to begin with. 

"Li Xiuying somewhat survived. I'm surprised." Yao Qigang commented, a conflicted expression written on his face. Li Xiuying should have been dead by now but she managed to survive and only lost her memories in the process. 

"Mu Jianyu threatened that the Li family would come after me if I dared to reveal our affair to the public." She told him. 

"Yes, that would be the worst-case scenario but as long as Li Xiuying doesn't remember anything, you should stay away from him until they truly divorce. The Li family wouldn't go after you unless you've given them a reason to do so." 

"But what about the Shen family?" Lin Meirong tilted her head up to look at him. She clenched her fists on her lap seeing how calm he was, sipping an expensive wine across her. "Shen Zichen couldn't possibly stay still and let Mu Jianyu take Li Xiuying away and since I've offended her, he probably wouldn't leave me in peace." 

At her words, Director Yao burst into a round of laughter. Ah, she was still the naive Gu Changge he'd taken from the countryside. 

"And why would Shen Zichen do that? Are you afraid because he is a Shen? Shen Zichen might be a son of the reigning demon king but he doesn't hold a candle against Shen Lingqing. If there's someone from the Shen family whom you should avoid at all cost, it should be the younger Shen princess."

Shen Lingqing? Lin Meirong had heard about her before even though she hadn't met her personally. Not that she was looking forward to it. She was just worried that Shen Zichen would utilize his influence to make her life harder than it already was. 

"You can't deny that he's still capable of doing something!" 

His family name alone would be enough to stir fear in anyone within the capital. 

She knew how a man can be devoted to his woman and could go to an extent to help her and with Shen Zichen being a Shen and being madly in love with Li Xiuying, it would certainly be easy for him to ask Shen Lingqing and the Tang family for help if he wants to. 

"You are thinking too much," Yao Qigang shook his head and pondered the consequences of their actions. 

"As I already said, the Li family won't touch you unless they have evidence to pin you. They hold their reputation high and wouldn't dare to taint it by bullying a normal citizen. As for the Shen family, why would they waste their time on you? Even if you have an affair with Li Xiuying, what did it have to do with them? Unless Li Xiuying is married to Shen Zichen, they wouldn't dare to get involved with the Li family's issues." 

Ah, what he said did make sense to her. As of this moment, her existence was irrelevant to the Shen family. She hadn't made any direct offense to the Shens but the Li family would be a different matter. If Li Xiuying was aware of the affair before her accident, then it would be possible that they were also informed of it. 

"I heard that they invited Li Xiuying to the celebration banquet. You mustn't give her any reason to suspect you." He reminded her. It would be better for them to stay low so the Li family wouldn't suspect them. 

Too bad the same couldn't be said about Mu Jianyu's situation because he would be one of the primary suspects if the Li family decided to start an investigation. As long as there was no trace leading back to him and Lin Meirong, they would be safe. 

Lin Meirong pressed her lips together and didn't answer. However, she still felt a sense of regret for allowing Yao Qigang to drag her in this scheme against Li Xiuying. It would have been better if Li Xiuying died so she only has one problem left to solve. 

'Tsk. So troublesome. He couldn't even do the job properly," she scoffed inwardly and looked at him indifferently. 'If only I could remove this pest in my life.' 

Director Yao was the only black cloud that had a hold on her and had a direct connection between her and Li Xiuying's accident. Maybe she should also start planning how to make a brighter future for her without this man. 

Using the child in her womb, Mu Jianyu wouldn't have a choice but to continue to support her financially which would also save her a lot of trouble from the sudden increase in her expenses recently. 

All she wanted right now was the stability of her career but with her b.u.mp starting to show, Lin Meirong wondered if it wasn't too late to get rid of it. She should have a backup plan, just in case Mu Jianyu totally ditches her to the curb. 

Meanwhile, Mu Jianyu sulked in his dimly lit apartment as he sat on the couch, trying to figure out how to fix the mess he started. Surely, the Li family wouldn't easily give Ying back to him after what he'd done to her. 

With Lin Meirong's pregnancy, this also made it hard for him not to feel guilty for Ying. He didn't like how Lin Meirong used their baby against her but he couldn't deny his paternity. However, he also knew that if Li Xiuying found out about this, she would be devastated by his betrayal. 

'Stupid. This is because you were stupid.' Mu Jianyu repeatedly told himself. 

How did he end up having an affair with Lin Meirong anyway? Why did he allow that woman to get the best of him, casting Li Xiuying aside? 

If he hadn't gotten drunk during that one party he attended where he ended up having a one night stand with Lin Meirong, none of these would have happened. 

That supposedly one-night stand ended up being a full-blown extramarital affair as that vixen continued to meet him everywhere he went until he succ.u.mbed to her charm forgetting the lovely wife waiting for him back home. 

Thankfully, he was one step ahead as he was able to convince Li Xiuying that he was her husband. This should also be enough to keep Shen Zichen from prying into their marriage affair. However, before anything else, he should find those divorce papers making sure Ying hadn't signed them or else they would be officially over.
