Chapter 257: Jewelry Heist

Ai Li was alarmed by her getting up. The computer wasn’t turned off. Once the display was booted up, they could see the corridor.

It was three in the morning, yet these people were still moving around. They walked lightly.

Aside from that, they were not doing anything weird. When Xiangxiang couldn’t find anything wrong after a few minutes, she went back to her bed.

She had some filming to do tomorrow. When she took out her phone, she found that Han Zhaolin had replied to her message.

The pictures Xiangxiang gave were of people without criminal records. He gave her their information.

She perused the doc.u.ments and thought something was off.

They came from the same town and were blue-collar workers. Two were construction workers. The others worked as security guards in various places.

This wasn’t a luxurious hotel, but they still lived in a luxury suite that cost five to six hundred per night.

Their income shouldn’t be able to support it even for a night. Besides, they didn’t seem like they were staying for only a night.

As she scrolled down, she noticed Zhaolin’s comment saying they stayed here for three days. That was suspicious.

Zhaolin asked her not to worry, as the trio was now under watch.

Xiangxiang went back to sleep. When she came back from filming the next day, she used an excuse to go to Yi Yan’s room.

She didn’t find any jewelry shops when she looked out the window, much to her disappointment. Yun Xiangxiang thought they were checking out their target here.

Her guess seemed to be off the mark. It was fortunate she didn’t tell Zhaolin about it, or things could have been awkward.

Xiangxiang didn’t b.u.mp into any of them the next few days, but she still heard footsteps. Even so, she didn’t get up to investigate anymore.

Around five days later, at midnight, Xiangxiang heard an alarm ringing. She jumped out of bed and went to a window in the corridor to check out the situation. She noticed the police cars which were swarming down there.

They seemed to have arrested a few people. A few cops came up soon after. With the manager guiding them, they went into that room.

Some officers took everyone’s testimonies in this story, attempting to find out about the men inside that room.

Xiangxiang said there were more than three in the room. She remembered there were five men in the room during the first night.

“Miss Yun Xiangxiang, you have provided useful testimony. They might have accomplices who escaped us. We need you to come with us to a.s.sist in the investigation,” the officer who took down the testimonies said.

“Of course. But I can’t go right now. I have to film tomorrow morning, but I will go with my agent after that,” Xiangxiang needed to film early in the morning.

The scene was set at five or six in the morning. The crew either worked through the night or would come to work at the break of dawn. If she were absent, they would have worked for nothing and would then need to repeat the torture the next day.

Since they were arrested, they could make them cough up their escaped partners’ whereabouts. Her being there or not made no difference. That was what she thought.

“Your job isn’t easy; we understand that. But this is not a simple burglary. Please understand. Now come with us,” he tried to force her.

“Your job isn’t easy. I understand that. But please know that my job isn’t simple either. You don’t have the right to force me,” Xiangxiang hated being forced to do things.

She was unhappy with the cop’s att.i.tude. It was three in the morning now. She would be going to work soon.

She would only film until seven or eight. It wouldn’t take much time.

“Miss Yun, still surfing the web at this hour?” A cop saw the laptop’s LED flash.

It must be the battery getting low. She needed to hide the camera footage that was in there. Xiangxiang smiled calmly, “Must I power down my laptop before I sleep? Is surfing the web at midnight a crime?”

“Can I have a look?”

“Sorry, but that’s private,” Xiangxiang refused.

She wasn’t one of the suspects. Not even the enforcers could go through her personal belongings as they pleased.

The cops looked at each other. The senior one said, “Sorry for disturbing your rest. But please come to the station as soon as you can.”

“Will do,” she nodded.

Xiangxiang didn’t tell Zhaolin about this. He Wei rushed over after she called him. He went to the station with her after filming was done.

Xiangxiang found out how skillful the thieves were. They couldn’t see any jewelry shops from where they stayed.

But they could see the mall behind the jewelry shop’s underground vents. It was a big mall. The first floor was wholly occupied by the display counters of the jewelry shops.

The bas.e.m.e.nt’s second floor was a parking lot. The first floor of the bas.e.m.e.nt was abandoned. Reasons unknown. They were planning to dig a hole from the bas.e.m.e.nt and enter the shop quietly.

The store’s security guard didn’t have the keys. He could only keep watch outside. After some recon, they chose to infiltrate from the spot farthest away from the outside.

If they were careful, the security guard might not hear them. It was also the dead of night. Humans would be at their most tired.

The cops waited until they stole jewelry worth tens of millions of yuan before they caught them in the act.

These thieves had a high chance of success even though they were first-timers. They could have gotten away with it if it were not for the meddling Yun Xiangxiang. By the time it was discovered, they would have gone heaven knows where.

The mall’s CCTV system was also cut off. It wouldn’t be easy to pursue them.

Yun Xiangxiang thought she only needed to make a testimony, but then the case got complicated.

“These men may be first-timers, but they are meticulous and detailed. Even after their capture, they didn’t panic. They did not ramble. They don’t seem like first-timers to me,” said the vice-captain. “We managed to nip them in the bud this time, thanks to Miss Yun, I know.”

“Captain Luo, say what you have to say. Don’t beat around the bush,” Yun Xiangxiang raised her hand.

Only Zhaolin knew about her messages. If this Captain Luo could get this info from him, there must be something between them.

Whether this guy was related to Ah Mian was irrelevant. Since he was a friend of her boyfriend’s best buddy, she would help wherever she could.

“There was a period of time where they didn’t contact each other. I suspect that there’s something bigger behind this and that they’ve been trained,” Captain Luo cut to the chase. “But they refused to say anything about this.”

“If even you guys failed to get any info, how do you expect me to?” Yun Xiangxiang was puzzled.

“One of them mentioned you,” Captain Luo replied.
