Chapter 7 - Failing as a Secretary

Lu?

Hearing that familiar surname, the face of the emperor CEO instantly flashed in her mind.

Her eyes unconsciously traced back to the face of Lu Qiang with her thoughts in a mess. Xiu Mei examined his features and noticed some familiar similarities.

The pair of jet-black eyes that seems like a whirlpool pulling you into it and that funny curly hair that kept sticking out just above his nape. Xiu Mei have always made fun of Lu Chen's hair. He was always so neat and proper from top to bottom but always, always… it's that part of his hair that's very out of place.

Every once in a while, her giggle suddenly slips and Lu Chen for some reason would know what she's been laughing about and turns back to her to give her a death glare.

Xiu Mei's thoughts floated back to reality.

Could he be…?

Nah. That couldn't be. She's been working for him for 4 years, she of all people would've known if he'd dated someone, got married and got a son. Xiu Mei would've been a failure as a secretary not to know information like that.

s.h.i.+fting her attention back to the kid, she smoothed his hair. "What do you wanna eat? Omurice? Pancake?"

With Lu Qiang's improving att.i.tude to her, the little guy was completely relaxed and his previous blank expressions became more colorful.

Lu Qiang bowed his head as he clutched the ends of s.h.i.+rt looking like he was thinking hard on what to choose for dinner. Making up his mind, he raised his head and lips puckered.

"Chicken Fried Rice." His voice was so soft that Xiu Mei controlled herself from pinching the cute little cheeks of the little kid.

Ah, she really want to adopt him.

Flas.h.i.+ng a gentle smile, she nodded at him and grabbed the nearby remote before giving it to him.

"Want to watch some cartoons while you wait?"

"…"

The guy looked at the remote for awhile before he grabbed her s.h.i.+rt and stood up.

"I…I wanna help…cooking…"

In complete cloud nine, Xiu Mei didn't decline his request and brought him with her to the kitchen. Pulling a kitchen stool, she gave him a simple ch.o.r.e like was.h.i.+ng the vegetables.

The guy immediately complied and was completely focused on accomplis.h.i.+ng his contribution. If Xiu Mei didn't look closely, she wouldn't have seen that slight curl on his lips that showed how cheerful Lu Qiang being given such a simple task.

While waiting for the rice to be cooked, she washed the chicken and chopped them into cubes. Adding some spice and soy sauce for margination, she left it to sit for a couple of minutes.

"I'm done." Lu Qiang proclaimed as he turned to the big sister standing a few meters away from him. His eyes sparkled with the current activity he was doing as he climbed down the stool with the vegetables in his arms.

Lu Qiang heard her thank him as the big sister accepted the vegetables and handed him two raw eggs.

"Then you can crack the egg in this bowl and whisk it properly, okay?" She handed him a bowl and a whisk as she gave the instructions.

Lu Qiang nodded at her and walked back to table to continue his work.

After a few minutes, she was done dicing the vegetables, so Xiu Mei cleaned her work station and walked to the table where the guy was focused on whipping the egg. She couldn't help but feel soft seeing the adorable smile on Lu Qiang's face.

She couldn't help herself from smoothing his hair and patting his head.

"Good job. I think that's already done." The Lu Qiang's movements stopped as he complied with her.

She was just about to talk with him a little more when she heard the doorbell of her house rang.

She crossed the living room to press the b.u.t.ton and activate the video doorbell of her house. She was just about to speak who it was when the small LCD flashed a closed up faces of the emperor CEO and Lu Shao.

Xiu Mei almost had a heart attack upon realizing that her boss was standing outside her home…is he conducting a home check for his employees?!

"Uhm… why…?" She was still pressing the mic b.u.t.ton so Lu Chen and Lu Shao could hear what she was saying.

"Open the door." Lu Chen commanded. Xiu Mei felt a dark aura br.i.m.m.i.n.g from him and heavy tone in his voice as he said that.

She felt some dread and her mind was completely in a jumble as she thought hard if she made some grave mistake on her work or something that even her boss had to visit her to her house just to scold her.

She was almost pulling her hair as she walked to the entry way and opened her door. Composing herself despite panicking internally, she showed a confident smile as she asked them.

"Good evening, Mr.Lu. Welcome to my humble abode." She controlled her eyes from twitching as she stood in the side to give him some s.p.a.ce to walk through.

Lu Chen stepped inside her home but stopped in front of her.

"Where is he?"

Xiu Mei blinked in confusion as her head t.i.tled on the side.

"Who?"

"My son."

His son?

"Why would your son be…" Her head automatically darted to the direction of the kitchen. Her eyes widened in shock as she finally had a clue who he was talking about.

Turning back to Lu Chen, she questioned him to ask some confirmation.

"…Don't tell me….?"

Lu Shao suddenly popped from behind him and replied to her question.

"Lu Qiang is his son."

If she were in an anime, she would be able to hear the thunder roaring behind her.

Xiu Mei suddenly remembered her previous thoughts and felt like crying.

….so she really is a failure as a secretary.
