Grandma Li did not dare to throw tantrums in Grandpa Li’s presence.
She still wors.h.i.+pped her husband. She had always been subservient in front of him.
“Mom, seriously. Stop.”
Grandma Li was disappointed and upset. She lowered her head and pressed her thumb on the red ink.
She looked at Grandpa Li with her tear-stained eyes. “I’ve never regretted marrying you at all.”
Grandpa Li said softly, “I don’t regret jumping into the pond to save you. I only wished I didn’t marry you. I should not have agreed to us becoming husband and wife. I should have stuck to my principles.”
Grandma Li felt bitter.
She really loved Grandpa Li.
Her love for him was sincere and real.
When she first set her eyes on him, she thought he was the most handsome man in the world.
She loved him deeply.
He was always very important to her. He was and had been the most important person in her life.
Grandma Li pressed her ink-stained thumb on the divorce letter. Taking in a deep breath, she walked toward Grandpa Li but backed away.
Her shadow was old, frail and lonely. It was a pitiful sight.
Aunt Li walked forward, wanting to support her.
Grandma Li shook her head. “It’s not necessary, I can walk myself.”
From that moment on, she had to walk alone. She would be all by herself for the rest of her life.
In the future, she would walk through life slowly.
She had no regrets in life.
Grandpa Li watched Grandma Li walk away with a melancholic expression. He slowly lowered himself onto the couch.
He did not say a word.
His eyes never left Grandma Li until she was completely out of his sight.
The image of the girl jumping into the pond upon learning that he refused to marry her flashed across his mind.
Perhaps, their fates had been entwined from that moment.
As Ying Yimei walked out of the clubhouse, her legs felt weak and heavy. She almost fell to the ground.
She sat on the ground with the bedsheet and wept silently.
She had become a laughing stock today.
How silly was she to end up in this pathetic state.
After a while, Ying Yimei stood up. She took big yet unhurried strides with her body still wrapped in the bedsheet.
She had attracted a lot of attention on the streets. Many pa.s.sers-by were pointing at her along the way.
She did not care. She held her head high and walked on. She smiled and walked proudly to the carpark from the lift.
It was only when she got into the car that she let out a big cry. She rested her head on the steering wheel and cried hard.
She slapped herself on the face several times.
She was angry at her own stupidity. It was so embarra.s.sing!
She had never been so embarra.s.sed in her whole life.
After crying for some time, Ying Yimei took a deep breath and started to drive home. When she reached the apartment, she saw Mrs. Ying talking to someone.
“Mom.”
Mrs. Ying was terrified to see how disheveled Ying Yimei looked.
She walked toward Ying Yimei, “Why are you looking so messed up?”
“Mom, don’t ask.”
Ying Yimei walked into the living room. She realized that there was someone who looked like a lawyer, holding up the repayment letter, standing at the door.
“Are you Ms. Ying? Is this signed by you? In the letter, you said that you would settle the debt before the end of the year. I need you and your mother to move out of this place as soon as possible.”
