Chapter 404: Did He Have No Idea

Lu Liangwei choked and it took her quite a while before replying, “I didn’t say you have to like her, but Jiu is a pretty decent person. You shouldn’t always face her with an unhappy look, she’s a girl, after all.”

Lu Tingchen’s voice raised slightly as if he had heard some sort of joke. He sn.i.g.g.e.red. “A girl?”

Zhu Yu had just sliced and plated some watermelon when she suddenly felt the urge to use the lavatory. She got Chu Jiu, who was standing right outside the door, to help bring it in.

Chu Jiu held the plate of watermelon and walked toward the door. She was about to enter when she heard Lu Tingchen say those words.

His condescending tone p.r.i.c.ked at her.

However, her expression remained indifferent as she walked in straight with the plate of watermelon, placing it down heavily with full force in front of Lu Tingchen.

Lu Tingchen jumped as he was surprised by her sudden action.

When he was able to react to her, his eyes narrowed and he stood up. “What kind of att.i.tude is this?”

Chu Jiu ignored him and turned to leave.

Lu Tingchen was not about to let her go. He grabbed her by the arm, his face’s expression was cold and dark. “Don’t you dare think you’re superior to everyone else just because you’re a covert guard who serves by His Majesty’s side. Since you are a.s.signed here, you should follow the rules of this place. If I were to inform His Majesty of your att.i.tude just now, would you believe that he will immediately relieve you of your duties here?”

Chu Jiu’s eyes narrowed as she flung off his hand forcefully. “His Majesty sent me here to protect Second Miss Lu. I’m not here to be a servant. You are of n.o.ble status and I’m not worthy of serving you. If you’re unhappy with me, feel free to report me to His Majesty. If His Majesty chooses to relieve me of my duties here, I will accept it.”

“You think I don’t dare to do so?” Lu Tingchen sneered.

He had always found her to be offending to his eye.

It was just as well that she was displaying such att.i.tude with him. Who knew if she was doing the same thing to Weiwei when he was not looking?

It did not matter much to him, but he would never allow Weiwei to suffer any grievances.

Lu Liangwei felt a slight headache coming when she saw the two acting antagonistically with each other. She quickly stepped in between them. “I say, both of you, could u just stop bickering for my sake? Huh?”

“Weiwei, I’m not bickering with her. You’ve seen how her att.i.tude was just now. I think she’s not happy about protecting you. We can’t afford to use such a high and mighty guard. I’ll speak to His Majesty when he returns and get her to leave.” There were subtle hints of rage in Lu Tingchen’s eyes.

He had wanted to be slightly polite with her from now on because of her protecting Weiwei well today, but who would have thought she would display such rude behavior just when he was starting to be nice?

Lu Liangwei’s lips twitched. She knew very well that Jiu’s att.i.tude must have been provoked by her big brother’s tone talking about her earlier.

Her brother was usually not so petty. Besides, Jiu was a girl. How could she not take it to heart when he had described her that way?

She turned to look at Chu Jiu, who said nothing. However, Chu Jiu’s fists were clenched very tight, revealing the uncertainty she was feeling.

Lu Liangwei had no idea what were the requirements for becoming Long Yang’s covert guards, but judging by how Jiu was acting now, she knew it must not be easy.

“Big brother, don’t talk about Jiu that way. You were the one who was wrong in the first place. If you hadn’t talked about her that way, Jiu would not be angry.” She turned to reprimand Lu Tingchen.

Lu Tingchen stared at her in disbelief. “I was wrong? What did I even say about her?”

Lu Liangwei rubbed her forehead. Did he have no idea about what he had just said?

“Big brother, you are a guy, Jiu is a girl. You should give in to her.”

Lu Tingchen sn.i.g.g.e.red as his gaze fell rudely on Chu Jiu, sizing her up. “Is she considered a girl when she looks like that?”
