Kana could feel the spiritual qi entering her body, refining it over and over. Her cultivation had already broken through to body fortification stage seven. Even her beast core was slowly progressing with every infusion of spiritual qi. Ako was also doing very well. She had finally broken through to a rank five divine beast. The spiritual spring was quickly disappearing. What once submerged their bodies up to their necks now only went up to their waists and was continuously disappearing at a steady rate. 

As time ticked by, days and even months had pa.s.sed. Kana had now been in the dreaded grounds for an entire year. Her progress was quite good as well. She was slowly charging towards the qi gathering realm where she would finally be able to store spiritual qi in her body. But as she reached the peak of the ninth stage of body fortification where she should have broken through, she felt something was off as a buzz came from her body, and a sharp pain filled her entire being. "Ahh!"

"Master!" Ako yelled out and quickly went to Kana's side. Kana had sweat dripping off her chin as she clenched her teeth.  She knew Ako was currently holding her, but she could not even speak as pain filled her entire being. Unbeknownst to her, the skies above outside of the mimic's mouth were growing dark. 

"You! Which one of you is bringing disaster upon me!? Who is calling down a tribulation!?" The mimic yelled out in panic. It really wanted to spit the d.a.m.n scary beings out, but it couldn't! It had to curse its own luck to have trapped these scary beings into its mouth that was filled with the cave itself. It had no way of spitting the cave out fast enough! As a mimic, while turning into things was easy, once you turned into something, it was hard to revert back, never mind spitting out a whole cave! It could only watch in horror as streaks of purple lightning flashed across the sky. 

*Boom!*

"Ahhh! d.a.m.n you! I am not even breaking through! Why must I suffer!?" The mimic cried out as purple lightning slammed into its body. This same purple lightning spread out over the mimic, entered into the cave, and, as if being summoned, flowed into Kana and spread throughout her body, cleaning it with its chaotic energy.

But with this cleaning came more pain. She felt as if her entire body was going to be torn to bits! A thick sticky, stinky black substance began oozing out of her pores. Ako found it hard to hold on to Kana as black scorch marks appeared on her bullish translucent skin. While the purple lightning was not entering her, it was still burning her as it coursed over Kana's body. Ako did even care about the black impurities that were coming out of Kana's skin. Her only concern was Kana's wellbeing. 

But one thing she did notice was the black star that was faintly appearing on Kana's chest right above her left breast. She was very confused as to what this was. She could only guess that it had something to do with the purple lightning.

As the purple lightning surging through Kana's body began to subside, the pain also began to fade away, and Kana was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief. But what she did not get was that she had actually broken through but not to the qi gathering realm. She was still in the body fortification realm, but now she was a stage ten body fortification realm cultivator.

Each realm only had nine stages from what she understood. So for her to surpa.s.s the nine stages and become a stage ten really confused her. Sadly she had too little knowledge of this world's power rankings, so she did not know if this was something that does happen from time to time. But after such an experience, she could feel that her skin had strengthened by tenfold compared to that of the stage nine body fortification realm. 

"Master!" Ako yelled out, her voice full of concern.

Kana opened her eyes and looked at Ako, who was wounded with black scorch marks and frowned slightly. She did not wish for Ako to get hurt because of her. "Ako, your wounds."

"Master, never mind my wounds but you! That was tribulation lightning! Are you okay!?" Ako asked again as she began inspecting Kana's body. Other than the sticky sludge and the faintly visible black star, there were no actual wounds that Ako could see. "This… Why does it seem you are still in the body fortification realm? Didn't you breakthrough?"

When she first held Kana, she had already inspected Kana's body. She saw that Kana was already a stage nine body fortification and was breaking through to qi gathering before the tribulation lightning came. She had sensed Kana breaking through while the purple lightning cleansed her body, but from the looks of it, she was still at stage nine body fortification.

"I'm not sure… I broke through, but I did not break through to qi gathering. It seems I am at stage ten body fortification…" Kana was truly at a loss. 

"Stage ten!?" Ako did not think such a thing was possible but then again she did not know much about human cultivation either. Only what her ancestor knew.

"Mm… I will need to ask Nana about it when we meet up again. I hope she was able to survive. No, I am sure she was able to!" Kana knew Liu Na would not die so easily. She was sure the girl was able to escape the rampaging demonic beasts. 

*Sniff!* *Sniff!*

Kana smelt something good, filling the air. Drool began to drip down the side of her mouth. "I smell meat…" 

"Of course, you smell meat, you b.a.s.t.a.r.ds!" The mimic yelled in anger. It was not a lightning pole, but it had become one! The little girl inside its mouth was able to escape a calamity all because it was used to disperse the initial strike of the tribulation lightning! Half its body was as good as cooked! The mimic had never felt so wronged before in its life.
