Chapter 669 - A Lonely Journey Ahead

Things were not looking good. The black fog was racing towards them at an astonis.h.i.+ng speed, and with the pressure coming from the black pillar, it was making it hard for Ako to run. Kana was suffering under the great pressure that weighed down on both of them. With her current cultivation, she was unable to take such pressure. If it was not for the fact that she had a powerful soul, she would have long died. She was lucky that Ako was a rank five divine beast, or she would be in a lot of trouble. 

Ako ran as fast as she could. Kana was in and out of consciousness. She was having a hard time keeping her eyes open. Each of Ako's steps were like led as they ran towards the side street from the center of the village. As she got closer and closer to the side street, Ako noticed the pressure starting to let up, allowing her to speed up even more. But just as she was about to step onto the side street, she felt something grab her leg and felt a sharp pain along with a strange energy spreading throughout her body. "Ahhh!"

"Ako!" Kana yelled out as she rolled across the ground and onto the side street. She watched in horror as Ako's lower body was wrapped in the black fog. 

"Master Run!  I can't get free!" Ako yelled back. She felt helpless. She struggled with all she had, but she could not free herself from the grasp of the black fog.

"No! Ako!" Kana yelled out. She reached out and went to grab Ako's hand when Ako's body was suddenly tugged hard and was sent flying towards the black pillar.

Kana's eyes were red with tears as she yelled out: "Ako, return!" She did not know if it would work, but she had no choice but to forcefully make Ako return to her contract s.p.a.ce. Kana watched as Ako turned into a stream of white light and shot towards her unrestricted. During the time when a contracted beast is being summoned or returning to their contracted s.p.a.ce, they were sent into a kind of void and were untouchable. The light pierced into Kana's head as Kana laid on the ground. The black fog seemed to have stopped at the very edge of the central square of the village. It did not seem to be able to pa.s.s that point. 

Kana's body had no energy, she felt weak after suffering under the extreme spiritual pressure for so long. But she knew she could not stay here any longer. Since she couldn't stand, he had no choice but to crawl towards the village exit. She had no idea what the black fog was or what the black pillar was for and why it dragged Ako towards it, but she knew it was nothing good. "Ako, are you okay?"

"Master… I'm sorry, but I will not be able to help you for now. I will need time to expel the black fog in my body. It's a strange energy. It may take a while…" Ako was in a great deal of pain, but she felt more pain knowing she could not be of use to Kana.

"Ako, take your time. Make sure you are one hundred percent better before coming out of your s.p.a.ce. I do not like ordering you to do things, but this time I will. As your Master, I order you to heal up before coming out." Kana may not be in any good condition herself, but she cared greatly for those who she thought of as friends and family. 

"Ako understands…" Ako knew Kana was doing this for her own good. But she also promised herself deep down, if Kana was about to die, she would ignore everything and come out to save her, even if it meant dying in the process.

Kana looked behind her and saw that the black fog had disappeared and the black pillar was no longer s.h.i.+ning with a black light. She let out a sigh of relief.  It seemed the black pillar was truly confined to the center of the village.  "Either way, I need to get out of this village. For the time being, I can hide within the fog and try to recuperate." 

Kana reached down into her robes and pulled out a small bottle. Liu Na had given it to her before she left. It was filled with healing pills. Kana took one and swallowed it.  She then continued to drag her body out of the village.

"Ako, can a healing pill help you at all?" Kana had to ask to be sure.

"No… Not until I actually get rid of this strange energy. Once it is out of my body, I can." Ako answered weakly. She did not sound too good. "Master, I must rest for a while, while I try to purge this energy. I might not be able to converse with you for a while."

"Mm… Do what you need to do. As long as you can get better, do what you need." Kana sighed. It seemed she was in for a long boring journey ahead of her. But she was still determined to grow stronger. Ever since entering this world, she has almost died a few times. She did not wish to be so weak anymore.

Kana dragged her body into the fog and, after who knows how long, finally found a place to rest. It was under a large rock that arched out over the land, providing a bit of cover.  Kana leaned up against the rock and began drawing in and circulating the spiritual qi in the air throughout her body.

As she did, hours pa.s.sed when suddenly Kana felt like a dam had broken. "I broke through!?"

The wall that had been keeping her from reaching body fortification stage eleven had finally been torn down, allowing her to break through. Just knowing this made Kana extremely happy. She could feel her strength rise rapidly.. She could help but smile.
