Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Little Jing Kong struggled and flailed about, shouting, "Put me down! Put me down!"

Xiao Heng: “No.”

Little Jing Kong's small face turned bright red as he yelled, "I need to pee! I can’t hold it anymore!"

Xiao Heng: “…”

Children truly had an uncanny ability to need to relieve themselves at the most inconvenient times.

Xiao Heng's body stiffened as he warned, "You’re not allowed to pee on me!" Then, turning to Gu Jiao, he added, "I'll take him to the latrine real quick."

"I’ll line up for us; the shop is just in the alley up there." Gu Jiao replied, pointing toward a spot ahead.

Xiao Heng gave a nod, “Got it. I’ll find you there later.”

Gu Jiao headed to the alley to get in line.

The pastry shop was quite popular, and the queue was impressively long. Gu Jiao took her place at the end of the line, which extended almost into the alleyway across the street.

As she waited, she suddenly sensed a strong and intense aura pa.s.sing fleetingly above her head.

It all happened too quickly, so much so that the surrounding townsfolk remained completely unaware.

Initially, Gu Jiao didn’t think much of it. However, in the very next moment, another powerful aura swept past above her head.

The strength of these two auras was on par with Qi Xuan's, perhaps even more formidable.

The two individuals had already started exchanging blows in a nearby alley. Gu Jiao could distinctly feel the clash of their internal force as it surged back and forth between them.

She decided to check it out.

It was an alley where a coffin shop and a funeral clothing store were located. The shops had long since closed, leaving only the fabric signs of the funeral clothing store and coffin shop fluttering silently in the night breeze. Under the pale moonlight, the scene carried an unsettling and ghostly atmosphere.

Standing just outside the alley, Gu Jiao positioned herself behind cover, cautiously poking her head out to steal a glance.

The fight was between a Buddhist disciple and a Taoist disciple.

The Buddhist disciple tapped the tip of his foot against the ground, flipping backward through the air before landing lightly on a rooftop nearby—directly facing the spot where Gu Jiao was hiding.

Gu Jiao focused her gaze and exclaimed in surprise, "Huh? The beautiful monk?"

At that moment, the Taoist disciple leaped forward, aiming a powerful palm strike at the monk.

The monk twisted his body with effortless grace, retreating half a step back—bringing him closer to where Gu Jiao was hiding.

This s.h.i.+ft in position revealed the face of the Taoist disciple.

Gu Jiao was even more astonished, "Taoist Qingfeng?"

How on earth had these two ended up fighting each other?

Could it be that Taoist Qingfeng was the "pompous guy" who had been chasing the beautiful monk last time?

One was a strikingly handsome monk, the other an ethereal Taoist priest. If there was ever a real-life example of "fights between celestials," this was it.

“So dazzling…” Gu Jiao muttered, her eyes fixed on them, completely mesmerized.

“Pompous priest, be reasonable! If I hadn’t brought you out of the forest, you’d still be trapped there for another year or two. Why don’t we call it even and write off our grudges?” The monk said mid-battle.

“In your dreams!”

Taoist Qingfeng struck fiercely, his palm slicing through the air as he aimed directly for the monk's chest.

His robes billowed dramatically in the oncoming night wind, his features exuding an ethereal elegance like jade. Yet, his gaze brimmed with a chilling intent to kill.

The monk’s figure blurred as he swiftly sidestepped the attack.

Few in the world could dodge Taoist Qingfeng's strikes, making this an exceptional feat.

Under the moonlit night, the monk looked as breathtakingly beautiful as a demonic deity.

He curved his lips into a sly smile, catching a falling leaf between his fingers, and let out a languid sigh. "Alas, was it really such a big deal? All I did was catch a glimpse of you bathing once. Is it worth holding a grudge for so many years?"

A flash of anger crossed Taoist Qingfeng’s handsome face, and his next move was ruthless. “Prepare to die!”

The monk’s smile turned cold. With a flick of his arm, the leaf in his fingers shot out like a blade, slicing through the air toward Taoist Qingfeng’s forehead!

This move was equally a killing blow!

……

"Done peeing?" Xiao Heng asked, glancing at Little Jing Kong as he emerged from the latrine. "Go wash your hands."

Little Jing Kong, with a pouty expression, stomped over to the well to wash his hands.

Xiao Heng couldn’t help but chuckle as he watched, "Who’s that sour face meant for?"

Little Jing Kong snorted, “For the bad brother-in-law who won’t let me eat candy!”

Xiao Heng raised an eyebrow, "But it was JiaoJiao who told you that you couldn’t have any."

Little Jing Kong put his hands on his hips and stomped his foot, “That’s because you told JiaoJiao my teeth were bad!”

Xiao Heng said innocently, “Well, your teeth ‘are’ bad.”

Little Jing Kong crossed his arms over his chest and turned his face away, pouting. "Humph!"

They were pa.s.sing by a shop that sold jerky, so Xiao Heng decided to buy some for Gu Jiao.

Afterward, Xiao Heng led Little Jing Kong to the shop selling the layered puff pastries.

The line was long, and Xiao Heng moved through the crowd, all the way from the front to the back of the line, yet he still couldn’t spot Gu Jiao.

Little Jing Kong asked seriously, “Are you sure you didn’t get it wrong? Maybe JiaoJiao didn’t come here to buy the layered puff pastries?”

Holding a packet of jerky in one hand and Little Jing Kong’s hand in the other, Xiao Heng replied, "This is the place. I didn’t get it wrong."

Little Jing Kong thought for a moment and then said, "Maybe JiaoJiao went to the latrine too? I’ll go find her."

Xiao Heng said, "Don’t run off, just wait here."

Little Jing Kong refused to cooperate. "I don’t want to! I want to go find JiaoJiao. If you don’t let me look for her, I’ll cry and say you’re a bad guy who’s kidnapping me!"

It was one thing to argue with a child, but it was a whole different story when the child was clever.

This was the little guy’s last act of defiance, especially since he had been denied his candy.

Xiao Heng was both amused and exasperated. “Alright, I’ll take you to find JiaoJiao.”

They would take a lap and come back.

Taking Little Jing Kong by the hand, Xiao Heng casually led him off in a random direction to wander.

Gu Jiao had exited from the alley’s far end, while the two of them had entered from the opposite side.

In the eerie, shadowy alley, Taoist Qingfeng and the monk had already exchanged over a dozen rounds of combat.

Gu Jiao could only lament that she didn’t have a packet of jerky with her to enjoy the thrilling battle scene.

Although their fight was intense, every strike from both men was aimed solely at the other, carefully avoiding any destruction of the surrounding buildings or walls.

This was the mark of true experts, showing their discipline and skill.

For those who casually destroyed people’s houses with their strikes, have they ever considered how much it cost to repair a house?

"I'm busy with other matters and really don't want to fight with you anymore. Let's just end this."

The monk stood on the roof, his internal force suddenly surging, causing his gray monk robes to flutter without wind, as though a vast sea of energy was churning within him.

Taoist Qingfeng furrowed his brows. Such powerful killing intent!

The monk leaped into the air, his murderous intent so sharp that he resembled a Buddha who had fallen into demonic ways, suddenly launching an attack aimed directly at Taoist Qingfeng's vital points.

“Master!”

A crisp, youthful voice suddenly pierced through the murderous tension in the alley.

The monk abruptly froze in midair, his body stiffening.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the s.h.i.+ family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succ.u.mb to darkness amidst hards.h.i.+p and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When s.h.i.+ Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the s.h.i.+ family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like s.h.i.+ Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

s.h.i.+ Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

s.h.i.+ Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

s.h.i.+ Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
