Chapter 211 – The Sudden Change

Hu Xiaohua and his friends had to re-examine s.h.i.+ Lei. How on earth could he have friends like Wei Qing and Song Miaomiao when he clearly came from a humble family with no power, influence, or wealth?

Not long afterward, the door opened once again. The dark tower dragged a terror-stricken Qin Huaiyuan into the room.

Qin Huaiyuan looked quite pitiful with his bag of IV fluids. He was pushed by the dark tower while raising his IV bag high in the air, and was still wearing a hospital gown.

Earlier, s.h.i.+ Lei and the others had heard some noises downstairs, but they took no notice of it since it had quieted down after a few minutes.

Everyone more or less knew what was going on after seeing how Qin Huaiyuan was brought in looking dejected and with no police officers behind him.

When the dark tower arrived at hospital and barged into the ICU despite the hospital employees’ attempts to stop him, Qin Huaiyuan hadn’t been fully conscious. He was a man weighing about eighty kilograms, and yet he looked like a chick in the dark tower’s hands as the other easily lifted him off of the bed.

The doctors and nurses were terrified and called security. However, their calls were ignored by the dark tower. Hu Xiaohua and his friends had already been there before to stir up trouble, so the hospital staff more or less knew that Qin Huaiyuan must have messed with someone he could not afford to mess with. They could only watch helplessly as the dark tower hauled Qin Huaiyuan into the car.

However, the hospital’s first priority was the preservation of life, so a trembling nurse held the IV bag for Qin Huaiyuan and walked the two to the car. After they left, the hospital staff immediately called the police. Although the police seemed to be aware of what had happened and told them that a dispatch would be arranged from the nearest station, n.o.body had arrived.

Qin Huaiyuan was already awake when he got into the car. He was still weak from the operation for the cerebral hemorrhage and wasn’t sure what was going on. The driver was a heavily built man emitting a strong killing intent. He did not dare utter a sound and could only behave himself by holding his IV bag high, fearing that he would suffer from some accident.

Qin Huaiyuan realized something was wrong when the car pulled into a police station. As soon as he saw the police officers, he immediately yelled that the dark tower was kidnapping him.

And yet the police were all looking at him in disdain, as if wondering if he wasn’t in his right mind. Even if he is actually clueless of what is going on, saying that he was kidnapped…? Have you seen a kidnapper take their victim to a police station?

Chief Feng had rushed out when he heard the commotion. Qin Huaiyuan sought help from him as if he was clutching onto straw for dear life.

Chief Feng was in trouble himself and that was all thanks to Qin Huaiyuan. Zhou Qi had just thrown him under the bus and scolded him for being incompetent. Saying that he was having a h.e.l.l of a time with this entire case would be an understatement. Then w.a.n.g Hua’an had appeared. He didn’t reprimand Chief Feng, instead choosing to simply ignore him. He wasn’t even worth admonis.h.i.+ng in the eyes of the Bureau. Instead, w.a.n.g Hua’an had reprimanded Zhou Qi and the executive at the subbureau. He also stated that he had called him the night before and hence questioned why s.h.i.+ Lei was detained and accused of a.s.saulting police officers.

It was true that Zhou Qi was the one who had been reprimanded, but Chief Feng felt as if he was on pins and needles. Qin Huaiyuan causing a scene here actually made Chief Feng feel more relieved, since w.a.n.g Hua’an had finally stopped his scolding. But it was impossible for Chief Feng to thank Qin Huaiyuan for this, as none of it would’ve happened without him.

Chief Feng watched Qin Huaiyuan carp on and on about what was going on. Why didn’t you just die from that cerebral hemorrhage?

Chief Feng was livid. “What are you yelling for!?” he shouted angrily. “You’re only here to a.s.sist with an investigation, so why do you keep screaming? Somebody—” He was about to ask someone to take him away, but the dark tower still had the screaming man in his grip. Chief Feng hesitated for a while before asking him in a low voice, “Uh…Do you think we should handcuff him or…?”

The Dark Tower pointed upstairs. He didn’t say a word, but it was clear that he wanted to take Qin Huaiyuan to the meeting room.

Chief Feng nodded, and smiled obediently. “Let’s go to the meeting room first. I shall inform the leaders about this immediately.”

The dark tower then dragged Qin Huaiyuan into the meeting room. Based on Chief Feng’s att.i.tude toward him, Qin Huaiyuan knew that something that was out of his control had to have happened. He was scared out of his wits and didn’t dare make a scene.

After entering the meeting room, Qin Huaiyuan noticed that there were many people there, but not a single one of them was a police officer. He increasingly realized that something was seriously amiss with the situation.

He couldn’t really recall who s.h.i.+ Lei was. They had definitely met at the factory before, but s.h.i.+ Lei was the child of an ordinary worker, so Qin Huaiyuan hardly had any recollection of him. Naturally, he would not know who Wei Qing, Song Miaomiao, and Zhang Meimei were, but he was more or less aware of who Hu Xiaohua, Jiang Yuanchao, and the rest were. He was especially familiar with Jiang Yuanchao, the young master of Jiangyang Properties. Of course, it was just a one-sided thing. Jiang Yuanchao probably wouldn’t remember him if it hadn’t been for this incident. When Da Hua Electronics began to cut down on the number of workers, they wanted to sell off part of the residential area to a capable property company in the city and therefore dealt with Jiangyang Properties quite often.

At this very moment, Jiang Yuanchao was sitting quietly to one side instead of at the front. Amongst his group of friends, Hu Xiaohua was the one who obviously had the aura of a leader. So the people sitting with them had to be from some influential family in the city. Qin Huaiyuan felt apprehensive.

“Miss, I’ve brought him here!” The dark tower said to Song Miaomiao as he pushed Qin Huaiyuan forward.

She nodded slightly and the dark tower moved aside. No sound could be heard in the s.p.a.cious meeting room. Everyone was looking at Qin Huaiyuan. There was ridicule, disgust, and disdain in their eyes, and yet no sign of anger, which made him felt anxious for some strange, inexplicable reason.

Noisy footsteps could be heard behind him. Qin Huaiyuan turned around to see his despondent wife with messy hair and a huge red handprint on her face walking at the front of a group of people.

Behind her was the livid Chief Feng, followed by the subbureau’s Zhou Qi. The last one was w.a.n.g Hua’an, whom he knew of but had never dealt with before.

What the h.e.l.l? The subbureau’s chief is enough already! What is the Bureau’s chief doing here? Qin Huaiyuan felt uneasy and didn’t have the nerve to make a sound.

The moment his wife caught sight him, she wept and pounced on him. Qin Huaiyuan groaned in pain when she accidentally hit the tube connected to the IV bag and it tugged on the back of his hand, causing pain to spring forth.

Chief Feng looked at Zhou Qi and w.a.n.g Hua’an carefully. Seeing the two of them nod, he began, “Qin Huaiyuan, the dispute between you, s.h.i.+ Zhongping, and s.h.i.+ Lei will be handled by the subbureau. You, your wife, and the employees of Da Hua Electronics who a.s.saulted s.h.i.+ Zhongping will go to the subbureau together to explain everything.”

Even though he hated Qin Huaiyuan, they still had some connection. Even though he hesitated for a while, Chief Feng still chose to remind him. “Those workers of yours have already confessed that you are the one who arranged for them to take the house back by force. They also mentioned that you are the one who instigated the a.s.sault. You’d better admit your wrongdoings when you get to the subbureau. Don’t push your luck.”

Those words came like a bolt from the blue. Qin Huaiyuan was stunned.

When he told the head of security to turn himself in yesterday, Qin Huaiyuan remembered informing him clearly that Da Hua Electronics would pay the entire compensation and wouldn’t ask them to fork out a single cent. If any of them were detained, he would make sure that their positions in the factory would remain unchanged and also promised to give them money for their troubles. They had promised that they wouldn’t sell him out, so what was up with this sudden change?
