Chapter 6.1 – Flirting
Lou Qingwu could still remember that night's unfortunate events. The whole family banquet became a mess, Li Jingsheng had been bitten by the snake and nearly killed her for it, being viciously yelled at by her father, being pushed into water, eventually leading her to have a fever &h.e.l.lip; up until the Li family's fiancee was changed to Lou Lianxin.
Everything was meticulously planned by her good sister.
How could she not appreciate it all.
If she hadn't had a high fever and reincarnated that night, her ending would probably be the same as it was last year. Being sent to the countryside early, meeting that person four years later and for the eight years afterwards, chasing after him in life and death, and finally, ending in a disastrous fate.
Her previous lifetime could be summarised as such.
So simple and to the point that it was hilarious.
It was a pity though, that she had been reborn. She changed her fate of being sent to the countryside. She changed the way her father treated her. She changed the way that that night's events had treated her. She thought that having owned her previous lifetime's memories, she'd be able to change it all.
But unfortunately, the night that Jade Rouge had been burnt down, when those sixteen people died before her, she understood. She was weak.
She was the Lou family's first daughter, and apart from that, nothing else.
She thought the father that doted on her unconditionally would coordinate with the Li family and catch the culprit.
But it was then that even though she had her previous life's memories, she couldn't change a thing.
Revenge required more than just brains, it required power.
Therefore, half a year after she was reborn, she continued to go to the countryside. But this time, she had asked for it herself. This was because she knew, at 13, she would meet someone who would change her life.
No matter whether it was her previous lifetime or this lifetime, that person was the only one who had given her warmth and held the warmest purple eyes.
It was a pity that despite these two lifetimes, she had only seen him once.
In the previous lifetime, she had tiredly stepped on skeleton after skeleton to let Xia Houqing sit on the emperor's seat. But in this lifetime &h.e.l.lip; she would stand here.
"Has it all been prepared?" Li Jingsheng looked at the returning manservants, his thoughts still stuck in the past.
"Yes, we've already prepared for Miss Lou to be placed in the South Pear Rooms, closest to Li gentleman. Your subordinate has already investigated that Miss Lou has actually come within these two days from a smaller town, and was on her way to the capital city. There is no suspicious activity."
"&h.e.l.lip; distant small town?" Why would she be there?
The subordinate wiped away some sweat. "Gentleman may have forgotten but that year, half a year later, Miss Lou was sent away by the left prime minister. Perhaps, they are welcoming her back home." So her arriving here on her way to the city wasn't strange at all. After all, Liyang town was somewhere you had to pa.s.s to get to the city.
Li Jingsheng stopped blankly for a moment. She had been sent away? Why didn't he know?
But then again, that girl deserved it. That year, she had nearly killed him so for him to not kill her was already good enough. Humph, maybe he was thinking too much. Such a gentle and weak girl wouldn't be able to cause any big waves. It was just that his personality was naturally suspicious so investigating a bit too much wasn't wrong.
His subordinate saw that his facial expression was better, then he worriedly asked, "&h.e.l.lip; Second gentleman, your maternal grandfather said that as you've already come, they want to give you a welcoming banquet tonight."
"I'm not going. Tell him that this general is tired from travelling and needs to rest. Also for them to not disturb this general in the next few days."
"Yes &h.e.l.lip;" The subordinate laughed bitterly. Tired from travelling? Second gentleman, it's only a six hour trip from the capital city to here, would your grandfather believe it?
"Also, in a while, tell third gentleman to calm down for a few days. Don't let him muck around any more. In a few days, he'll follow this general back to the city."
"Ah?" The subordinate stared blankly for a moment, "Laoye's letting third gentleman back to the residence?"
"En." Li Jingsheng replied with a sound. He waved his hands to tell his subordinate to leave. It's already been three years so that business has already settled down. It's not like Ziqing could stay here forever, furthermore, grandmother was starting to miss him too.
TL Note:
** laoye – in this case, it’s referring to Lou Jingsheng and Li Ziqing's dad, the left prime minister – also formal/polite way of addressing an older n.o.ble man
** first daughter, second daughter = first (嫡) refers to the children of the first wife whoa are seen as more legitimate descendants, second (庶) would be concubine born children, seen as second cla.s.s because concubines were pretty much servant cla.s.sed unless the husband really liked that concubine.
This is a pretty big deal because the children of the first wife are seen as legitimate and better, and if the husband is upright, he should respect and honour his first wife more by treating their children better. However, and in the case of many other Chinese novels, the husbands prefer their concubines and the concubine born children.
**gentleman = e.g second gentleman = 二公子 = polite way of addressing a young n.o.ble male
*this general – pretty awkward phrasing in English but it’s Li Jingsheng referring to himself as a general when he’s speaking to others, reminding others of his official post and how much better he is than everyone. Same with “your subordinate”, in Chinese, it would be a humble way of a subordinate speaking to their superior/master (me).
