Chapter 15.2 - Glutton for punishment
The slight inflection at the end of her question made Lou Lianxin’s face pale. “No! I won’t go!”
She had already made Li Jingsheng displeased with her already so if he found out that she was inverting the truth again, she would definitely be hated by him.
She originally thought that Lou Qingwu would be as soft as ever so she thought if she just provoked her father a bit, he’d straight away start yelling at her, and maybe even start using family law on her.
But who thought that … this Lou Qingwu could face father’s anger so calmly?
What went wrong?
Lou Qufeng’s brows furrowed tightly, “Exactly who is telling the truth here?”
“Daddy …” Lou Lianxin anxiously gripped her mother’s clothes, second madam instantly got the hint and used her handkerchief to wipe away a tear.
She pulled Lou Lianxin in front of Lou Qufeng, showing her red face.
“Laoye, right now isn’t the time to worry about that. Look at Lian’er’s face, what are we going to do about tonight’s banquet? We’ve already told the empress that Lian’er would personally wish the emperor a happy birthday …”
With the second madam’s reminder, Lou Qufeng’s attention was quickly diverted.
His eyebrows shaking from anger, glaring at Lou Qingwu, “Even if it was your sister who accidentally spilled it out, you’re the big sister, don’t you know that you have to help her? And why did you hit her? In these three years in the countryside, did you just learn these dirty underhanded schemes?”
Lou Qingwu stayed calm but inside she was so angry that she started laughing.
Carelessly glancing over at Lou Lianxin who was covering her malicious glare with a handkerchief, she laughed coldly, “Father, I didn’t hit her.”
“You’re not admitting to it? Then would she have hit herself?” Lou Qufeng’s got even angrier.
Lou Qingwu curled a mouth corner, he really was correct.
Wasn’t it just her little sister hitting herself?
She lifted her head and spoke unfathomably, “Father, I’m not left handed.”
“En?” Lou Qingwu furrowed his brows, what did being left handed have to do with anything?
Lou Qufeng hadn’t reacted but the second madam met Lou Qingwu’s mocking look and her heart suddenly skipped a beat.
She viciously looked down and saw Lou Lianxin’s swollen left face, suddenly resenting Lou Lianxin for being so stupid.
Lou Lianxin froze, not understanding, why did mother look at her like that?
But the third and fourth madam faced each other and curled their mouth corners at Lou Lianxin’s right face, unable to resist giggling.
“Laoye, eldest miss saying that really would make it strange. Normally, when hitting other people’s faces, the swollen side should be the right side. That is … unless the person who hit second miss was left handed?”
Lou Qufeng furrowed his brow and rubbed his face, then suddenly, his face darkened, “Lian’er, what is this?”
Lou Lianxin hadn’t thought of this originally and only after third madam spoke did she realise.
Her face changed, d.a.m.n it, how could she have missed such a big loophole?
Originally, she wanted her maidservant to hit her but that weak maidservant didn’t dare to hit her.
So she could only hit herself but she actually forgot … her hitting herself and someone else hitting her would be completely the opposite!
Being exposed, Lou Lianxin uncomfortably lifted up her head, weakly looking at Lou Qufeng, calling out, “Daddy …”

Family law - carried down from generations, follows a clan’s rules. Normally it’s related to punishment, so when they implement family law, it means someone’s broken a law somewhere and they’ll do a punishment like hitting them with wooden boards (heavy) or kneel and copy out scriptures or the girl’s guide (light but still kinda heavy because sometimes they’ll be shut in that room for days copying out stuff).
Lou Qufeng telling Lou Qingwu to help her sister - He’s not stupid, he’s just incredibly selfish and will put his interests above anything else, including his daughter’s reputation and life. At this point, Lou Lianxin is more valuable because of the second madam’s background as well as her engagement to Li Jingsheng. So despite how pretty Lou Qingwu is, he’ll back Lou Lianxin 100% even if she’s wrong.
