Chapter 152.2 - Personally punish her
Lou Lianxin then let out a relieved breath.
But she suddenly heard footsteps next to her as she looked up.
What she saw made her whole body freeze up.
A few maidservants carried a pan of blazing fire in front of her, a three foot long pan that blazed wildly.
The fire leapt up, burning brightly.
Lou Lianxin’s face paled.
The old woman collected the ginseng tea that a senior aide pa.s.sed to her, sipping it.
Then she spoke, “Don’t say this old mother-in-law is unkind to you, all new brides that enter in all have to go past a pan of fire. But you’re different from a normal new bride. After all, you lost your chast.i.ty before you married … so you might have some bad luck with you. So I purposely made this pan of fire for you, wasting quite a bit of time and effort.”
“Grand daughter-in-law … thanks grandmother for her care.” Her ten fingers dug into the ground in front of her, angrily and hard.
She was facing down but she could feel the heat beating against her from afar.
If she wanted to cross that pan of fire, she could only step atop of it.
The hatred in her heart rolled in angry flames, nearly stirring up all of the evil intent in her heart up.
But she pressed down on it.
“Then why aren’t you moving?” The old madam coldly looked at her, hurrying her.
“Grandmother, isn’t this …” Li Jingsheng’s brows furrowed.
If something happened to Lou Lianxin, the left prime minister would definitely retaliate, if only just to gain back his lost face.
He felt like his grandmother had gone overboard with this.
“What? Sheng’er’s heart hurts? Grandmother is doing this for your own good. After all, when news of your bride’s lack of chast.i.ty makes its rounds, it won’t be good for your reputation and future career.”
“But …” Li Jingsheng wanted to say more, like how the news had already spread.
So there was no reason to do this, it was clearly just the old madam …
But when he looked at the darkness in the old madam’s eyes, he suddenly grew silent.
“Yes, this grandson knows.”
Li Jingsheng’s compromise made Lou Lianxin’s heart grow even colder.
Eyes were watching her from all four directions, making her feel as if she was in jail.
The bloodthirstiness in her eyes grew but she could only swallow the broken teeth back into her stomach.
She slowly crawled up from the ground, watching the leaping flames in front of her.
She lifted up her skirt, closing her eyes as she stepped on it …
Today’s hatred, she, would remember it.
But she overestimated her ability to bear it.
When the fire from the coals licked her feet, she couldn’t help but scream.
She didn’t stand steadily, wobbling as she suddenly collapsed to the side.
Li Jingsheng’s face completely changed, standing up to go help her but the old madam stopped him with a cold look.
His body froze, pausing.
As he stopped, Lou Lianxin had already fallen heavily on the ground.
“Jingsheng, it hurts …” Pain from all over her body made Lou Lianxin unable to help but cry pitifully.
Why did she marry into this family?
Why …
But Li Jingsheng was afraid of the old madam’s power so he could only look down, and be silent.
Lou Lianxin’s hand stretched out towards him, like a joke.
In the end, she could only pull back her hand, tears forming in her eyes as the coldness in her heart nearly swallowed her.
“What is this?”
A deep voice suddenly sounded from behind, bring a sense of royalty that seemed innate.
Everyone turned around as they saw a man in royal purple robes with a handsome and graceful face.
He stood tall and upright, his long silhouette casting a shadow on everyone.
His gentle eyes swept the scene calmly as he took in the scene, before finally stopping on Lou Lianxin.

TL note:
The picture shows a normal, more modern pan of fire that brides would normally step over to dispel spirits. Note how the groom would also normally hold her hand through the whole thing and pretty much all the way up until the altar. The old madam really is just being cruel and unusual here.
Grrrrr @the person who stopped this cruel and inhumane torture though.
Guess who it is? Is he friend or foe?
Leave a comment and because I don’t think LLX deserved that, she’s only 15 here ;-; xx
