Chapter 13: Is He Really Dead?

Zhu Feng expression was cold:

"What is it?"

The soldier then stated:

"Your Highness, on the other side of the Zichen Palace, The Emperor has been found!"

TLN: ZICHEN means Palace of the Northern Dipper.

Zhu Feng immediately turned around and looked at He Yi, and received a frown. They both looked at each other, and immediately headed for the Zichen Palace without saying a word.

Along the way, without neither of them were saying a word, there was a tense atmosphere surrounding them. Their rapid breathing and fast heartbeat present. In a moment they've arrived at the Zichen Palace which is located at the Imperial Palace Northgate. When they went closer, they found the place already in ruins. In addition, there were people pouring water inside and a burnt smell wafted over, a.s.saulting the twos senses.

Upon seeing that Zhu Feng had arrived, the soldiers came forward one by one:

"Your Highness!"

Zhu Feng looked at the ruins, slightly frowning.

"What about that person?"

One of the leader of the soldiers came forward. His face stained with soot and ash, he stated:

"Your Highness, he is inside."

"Bring this Prince over to see"

"Yes"

Then the soldier carefully guided Zhu Feng and He Yi in. Although the large fire had been extinguished, the hot temperature had not retreated. Just by walking in a few steps, the two could see that the corners were completely burned black.

Walking into the innermost room, did they then discover that there was a burnt black corpse lying on the ground.

Zhu Feng frowned:

"This—-?"

The leader of the soldiers spoke at once:

"Your Highness, this is The Emperor"

Zhu Feng did not speak, and slowly walked forward. The body had been burnt beyond recognition. After all he couldn't identify completely who it is. However, as Zhu Feng walked nearer, he notice that there was still a few corners of the corpses clothes which seemed to be under their body. Turns out not everything was charred.

Upon closer inspection, that little corner of the lower hem was found out to be a bright yellow color.

In this palace, in this world, being able to wear a bright yellow color.

There can only be one person.

The Emperor himself!

But, is it really The Emperor?

Zhu Fengs brow twisted into a knot, his eyes had a fiery gaze while looking at the burnt corpse. Although he did not speak, in his heart he was asking himself.

Was this truly The Emperor?

His own nephew, the eldest grandson who was greatly trusted by the now deceased Emperor Gao. He was eager to cut off va.s.sals after he ascended the throne. He wanted to suppress the several younger brothers of his Father Emperor. He wanted to put on a big show and make a big impression. He wanted to be an Emperor who created a period of prosperity.

Now, in this manner, he just left like that?

Zhu Feng slowly walked forward and squatted down, carefully sizing up the body. The people around him did not dare to even take a glance. But he gazed steadily at the body and the face that had changed beyond recognition.

Is this really The Emperor?

Did he truly die here?

Thinking of this, Zhu Feng could not help but turn around and look at He Yi.

He Yi returned his gaze, but said nothing.

After a quarter hour of silence, Zhu Feng stood up and turned his back to the charred corpse, saying:

"Pa.s.s down this order. The Palace caught on fire, and The Emperor died in an accident. Kindly prepare his body to be placed in a coffin and use the country rites to deal with him"

"Yes!"

"From this moment onwards, seal the nine gates. No one is allowed to leave the Imperial Palace or no fixed duties who want to go out! If there is anyone who disobeys, kill without amnesty!"

"Yes!"

After giving these commands, he turned and walked out all the way till the entrance of the palace gate.

At this time, the pitch black sky ahead appeared to have a touch of the marble white color of the dawn sky. It was almost daylight.

Zhu Fengs footsteps stopped.

He Yis footsteps also stopped and stood only three or four steps away from him. When he raised his head to look at Zhu Feng, Zhu Fengs tall figure in the faint morning light exposed an imposing outline.

He Yi then heard  Zhu Fengs deep voice slowly resound:

"He Yi"

"Yes, Your Highness"

"He, is he really dead?"
