Book I: The President’s Million Dollar Bride_Chapter 3.2

Jiao Qi closely followed Zhang Chenfei all morning while staring at him at one side. Surprisingly, he found out that although the president had a cognitive bias in dealing with their personal relations.h.i.+p and emotional issues, he did not have much problems in handling corporate affairs. Knowing this, he could not help but quietly relax.

“Come with me to a place this afternoon.” After lunch, Jiao Qi pulled Zhang Chenfei into the car. He will take him and see a private doctor.

Public hospitals’ medical services are relatively superficial so the rich people normally have their private doctors. Most of these private doctors have left the hospital to open their own clinics. Their fees are very high but their corresponding medical skills are quite superb.

“Where to?” Throwing off the hand that’s tightly grasping his, Zhang Chenfei put on a smile yet not a smile and stopped three steps away from the car. His att.i.tude is extremely uncooperative.

Obviously, if Jiao Qi can’t give him a sufficient reason, he will turn his face away in the next second.

“To settle a debt.” Jiao Qi thoughtlessly coaxed him as he was afraid of him creating a ruckus.

Zhang Chenfei sneered and his long arm stretched towards his lovely little wife. He pulled his wife into his bosom and trapped him within his embrace.

His two fingers pinched that exquisite and good-looking chin while moving closely to his ear and muttered nefariously: “I already told you. Before you get pregnant, not even a cent of your father’s debt will be paid.”

The hot air sprayed on his face, causing the little wife’s ear to redden.

“To conceive a child, you must have a jī [1] … cough … at the very least, you must give an advance payment.” Jiao Qi struggled to free himself from his tight embrace. After that, he dragged him into the front pa.s.senger seat. Following reason and in order to move the feelings of his husband, he also added: “Prost.i.tutes get paid 200 for one night, and you slept with me last night… twice.”

{T/N: [1] 鸡  jī – It means fowl or chicken. But here, the meaning is ‘prost.i.tute’ which is a slang term.}

Stepping on the accelerator, the silver Maserati rushes out of the underground garage of s.h.i.+ Fei.

At first, Zhang Chenfei was feeling unhappy. There was a sense of discomfort knowing that his little wife had calculated everything that happened last night. However, it also makes sense once he thinks about it. The father of his young wife owes so much money. If he does not give an advance payment, his father’s hand might be chopped off or his leg chopped off. He does not want his Jiao Qi to bathe his face with tears every day.

“Well, for the sake of your devotion to me last night, let me give you first an advance payment of 100 million.” Zhang Chenfei picked out a black card and clipped it in between his distinct fingers.

Jiao Qi obliquely glanced at him: “That’s very kind of you, Mr. Dior Zhang.”

“No, call me Dior.” Between us, you should not sound so estranged.

” … ”

Caught off guard, the Maserati reeled and nearly knocked against the beggar with a dirty rag on his hand who had forced his way to wash the car on the cross road.

“If you don’t want to give money, just say it straight!” The beggar looked at them with contempt, put his hands together and wiped the winds.h.i.+eld.

After the rough ride, they have finally arrived at the private clinic.

Partly hidden from people’s view, there stood a small multi-storied white building in the middle of the trees. It was purely of European architecture which looked magnificent and beautiful. It does not look like a clinic at all.

The style of the interior decoration and its external appearance show a high degree of consistency of taking the high-end luxury route. In the parlor, there is a royal blue velvet sofa with a thick carpet of stars. Hanging on the wall is Ruben’s 《The Descent of Christ》frame. Whether it was true or false, the fact remains that the frame is very high-end.

“Mr. Jiao, Dr. Que has already been waiting for you in the consulting room.”

The doctor who opened this clinic, named Que De, is an ethnic Chinese [2]. He grew up in the United States. He was a medical genius and received his doctorate at a young age. On a whim, he went back to China and opened a clinic to devote himself to the rich.

{T/N: [2] ethnic Chinese – The term “ethnic Chinese” is more often used to describe people of Chinese descent but are no longer living in China. Read more .}

Since he will be staying in China, he must get himself a Chinese name.

At that time, the friend who helped him with the preparations for his clinic was a native of Tianjin (a munic.i.p.ality in northeast China). His friend asked him to set the standard pricing for the clinic’s various services. But after he learned of it, his friend’s face wrinkled up like that of dog as he remarked. “You are really lacking virtue. You are really cruel.”

As a result, he was called Que De.

{T/N:  缺  quē – means lacking or deficient; and 德  dé – means virtue / morality / ethics / kindness}

Dr. Que De’s clients are the rich and the wealthy. The middle-aged and old people account for more than half of his clients. The middle-aged and elderly people always have some feelings that they cannot easily throw away such as the feeling of grat.i.tude. Hence, around the 《The Descent of Christ》frame, there are also more than a dozen faces of 《The Living Hua Tuo [3]》 and a printed scarlet multicolored silk banner of 《Magical Hands Bring The Dying Back To Life [4]》.

{T/N: [3]  华佗 Huà Tuó – He was a famous doctor at the end of Han Dyansty.}

{T/N: [4]  妙手回春 Miào Shǒu Huí Chūn – it means ‘magical hands bring the dying back to life’ (idiom) / miracle cure / brilliant doctor}

This can also be regarded as a merger between China and the West.

“Mr. Zhang, please sweep your smart brain.” The front desk small brother smilingly looked at Zhang Chenfei.

Louis XIII was returned to the factory for repairs, and now Zhangda diao is like a primitive man without his smart brain. The considerate front desk was not baffled by this as he gave him a temporary card. He took out the temporary card and collected the fee through the POS machine.

Seeing the credit card machine, Zhang Chen came to understand things clearly. His little wife’s father really didn't have knowledge and experience. He borrowed money just to actually find a place with no style. When his wife’s father came and asked for money, he didn’t know that while chatting with him, there were hidden daggers behind those smiles. But he wouldn't be tempted to truss up his father-in-law because that will make his lovely little wife to weep until the sky darkens.

Boring. Not being able to do as he wishes as an overbearing president, he took out his black card with a slightly raised chin and asked: “How much?”

“Two hundred.” Jiao Qi took the black card and handed it to the front desk.

Just two million? What a joke!

“Two million, such a small amount. You ask the secretary to pay for it and let’s end things here.” The president was also very dissatisfied. Just for this trivial matter, he actually asked him to make a trip here.

“It’s two hundred bucks.” Jiao Qi pointed at the amount displayed on the credit card machine and then swiped the card.

The front desk small brother smiled and took out the “200 yuan” from the credit card and gestured to take Zhang Chenfei’s signature.

Zhang Chenfei looked at the amount and stared at it blankly. All of a sudden, in a low voice, he whispered to his lovable little wife: “We did it twice yesterday night. I should give you four hundred.”

“……get lost!”
