VOLUME 7 CHAPTER 19: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE DECISION TO LEAVE OR STAY (3)

Liu Bei POV

As I walked through the streets in the city, I could feel the joyous and celebratory atmosphere in the air.

It wasn’t any special day nor was it the new year, nor was it harvest season either, but everyone on the streets seemed happy for some reason. People were smiling and chatting, and conversations and jokes sprung up even between strangers. It was very crowded but n.o.body had their hands constantly on their wallets, and the coins in their pouches were free to jingle about.

(TL: If you remember, there were still thieves in Xuchang.)

I don’t know if it’s me but I feel like this street is a lot more bustling than before. Perhaps it’s because I’m familiar with it, or perhaps it’s because I’m going to miss it soon.

I turned to look at Sun Quan, who was walking about casually. She would turn and look at the stalls from time to time, and didn’t seem to be in a rush.

Sun Quan came over at noon to pick me up personally. She didn’t come on a carriage, nor did she bring Chen Wu or anyone else. She actually came here alone on foot, and it seems like she intends to bring me over the same way.

This sort of arrangement seemed rather inappropriate to me, so I tried to hasten the pace.

“Lord Sun Quan, was what you said before true?”

“Of course it’s true, big sister is awake.”

Bo Fu was awake, and she only just woke up this morning. Only when I heard this from Sun Quan at noon did I finally stop worrying. At the very least, I can be sure that Yu Ji did return Bo Fu’s life.

And this way, I don’t need to be worried about leaving anymore.

“Lord Sun Quan could have just sent a courier to inform me for such things.”

In my experience, couriers never bring good news. If Sun Quan had sent a courier to report this, perhaps I might change my impression of couriers.

“I can’t do that.” Sun Quan said as she held her hands behind her back and leisurely walked ahead, “Big sister very clearly instructed me to personally invite you over so how could I let a courier do it?”

“I would have come over first thing after hearing this news so there wasn’t a need to go this far.”

“It’s fine. I happened to have things to do so it’s on the way.” As she said so, Sun Quan took out some coins from her pouch and began counting. She had a very gentle expression on her, as though she was enjoying her time with me.

The coins used here in Jiangdong are a little smaller than those in Xuchang, and they have a funnier shap. From this, it was clear that the money used in Jiangdong is minted here.

By the way, I’m actually just an ignorant and uninteresting fellow.

“Ah! Uncle, it was so difficult to find you!” Just then, Sun Quan’s eyes lit up as she yelled and ran over through the crowds.

I hurried forward as well and looked in the direction where she was headed to. Up ahead was an old man tending to a street stall with many lifelike clay sculptures and wooden carvings displayed.

Ah! Wasn’t this the old man we met the other time? I understood what Sun Quan’s intent was and sped up.

“Here, uncle, the money I owed you from last time. I tried finding you several times after we last met but you weren’t around.”

“Oh oh, it’s that young lady.” The old man received the money and stuff it in his pocket without counting it, “I wasn’t feeling well these few days so I was resting at home.”

When she heard this, Sun Quan looked worried and squatted down a she held her hands in front of her chest, “Then how is uncle feeling now?”

“Ah, much better now.”

“Really! Then that’s great.” When she heard he was fine, she tilted her head and gave a bright, cute smile.

In reality, Sun Quan and the old man only met once but she could connect with him so easily and she genuinely cared for him. This was really surprising to me, and it was one good side of this era I have seen so far.

But now that I think about it, where are the rest? Leaving aside Zhou Tai and Jiang Qin, Chen Wu should be around somewhere…

I looked about and not far away, a small figure jolted when my eyes moved. It seemed nervous for a moment before disappearing shortly afterwards.

Looks like she’s still nearby, just a little more stealthy.

“Oh right, Imperial Uncle. Do you know why big sis slipped into a coma?”

“Eh?” I was surprised at this sudden question by Sun Quan.

You don’t know? I wanted to ask her this, but since she asked me, then it was clear that she didn’t know.

“What did Lord Zhou Yu and the rest tell you?”

“They said that her wound got infected and she had a high fever… But I feel like that isn’t the case.”

Her intuition is pretty sharp huh.

“The truth is as they said it was. There were some issues with her wound so no need to doubt them.”

Since Zhou Yu and the rest chose not to tell her the truth, then all the more I shouldn’t. Some things were best kept to as few people as possible.

“Alright, since Imperial Uncle said so, then it must be so.” Sun Quan smiled at me as she said so, leading to an acute sense of guilt. I smiled back and didn’t say any further.

Just then, a breeze blew by. It wasn’t chilly, but warm, the sort of warmth that was comfortable.

“That’s a spring breeze right?” Sun Quan felt comfortable from the breeze as well, and raised her hands excitedly.

“Yes, it’s a spring breeze.” I replied as I looked at Sun Quan.

Her path to being a ruler has only just begun but she’s definitely not inferior to me.

Because she has a warm and kind heart.
