Chapter 187
VOLUME 9 CHAPTER 187: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE 8 DOORS GOLDEN LOCK FORMATION (14)

Liu Bei POV

“Un, I got it.” Zi Long nodded and looked at Chen Dao, “Chen Dao, go and do a count of the troops.”

“Ah… Ah, Wen Yuan, you too… Un.” Feng Xian seemed to realise what was up and opened her mouth but was not too sure what she ought to say and took a long while before she could get her message through.

“Un, I got it.” Wen Yuan said as she smiled stiffly and rode to the troops as she discussed with Chen Dao how they ought to split the workload.

I have to say though, thanks to Chen Dao’s outburst, Feng Xian seemed to have calmed down and when i looked at her, she was playing with Red Hare. Feeling that I could not say anything, I decided to ask her about the battle, “Feng Xian, was it a difficult battle?”

“Eh?” Feng Xian looked at me in a daze when she heard my question but quickly turned back to look at Red Hare, “Ah, un, there were some difficulties halfway when we got split up.”

“Eh? You got split up?” Zi Long was surprised and chimed in as well, “IT should have been impossible to link up again.”

“I didn’t think about too much about it then.” Feng Xian shook her head, “When I heard that the troops at the back had fallen behind and got separated, I left command to Wen Yuan and a few other officers before turning back and bringing the rest up.”

“You managed to get to them?”

“Un, using their breath.” Feng Xian said something very mystical again. How could you have found them with breath in such a large formation with so many people around…

“I see~” Zi Long gasped as she nodded. However, she did not seem to be in disbelief. Instead she seemed impressed. Perhaps she could have done the same as well given her skills. Now that I think of it, they really are impressive.

“Ah yes…” Just then, Feng Xian spoke up as she looked about, “Where is Zhang Fei?”

When I heard this question, I thought back to what happened with Yi De and my elation got severed in half.

“Ah yes, I have not seen her at all now that you mention it.” Zi Long said as she swung her sleeve while looking about.

“Un… Yi De has returned to the mansion.” I said as calmly and as normally as I could, “She felt uncomfortable again after this battle.”

“I see…” Feng Xian said, seeming a little crestfallen, “I was thinking of praising her too when the battle ended.”

“Eh? Praise?”

“Un, I was fighting Cao Ren for almost the entire time in the city but I did catch a glimpse of Zhang Fei’s fighting from time to time.” Feng Xian said as she nodded and smiled, “It might not be very appropriate to say this but I feel like her skills were the same as before she lost her memories.”

“You think so too?” I leaned towards her and asked.

“Ah… Un…” Feng Xian seemed to be shocked at my actions but nodded anyway.

As expected huh… I too felt the same way, that Yi De was able to fight at the same level of competency as before, in a way that invoked nostalgia in me.

“But it’s a waste.” I continued as I shook my head, “Even though she may have regained some of her memories while fighting on the battlefield, she still fainted and when she wakes up, she will not remember anything.”

“I see…” Feng Xian said with a tinge of regret, “I heard from Wen Yuan that an enemy general was slain and I thought that it must h

ave been by Zhang Fei. But in the end, her memories have yet to return huh?”

Yes, it is indeed a waste, I thought as I shrugged in response to Feng Xian. But I willl still have to ask Yi De some questions about what happened when she woke up. She might have remembered some things after all or she would not have been able to wield her Serpent Spear as well as she did.

“Well then, that’s it for that…” Zi Long said as she concluded this topic and swung her reins down lightly, making her horse advance slowly towards Yuan Zhi, who was now completely drunk by now. The amount of liquor in the 2 gourds was quite a lot and this should be the first time that she is drinking that much.

“Lord Xu Shu.” Zi Long said to Yuan Zhi who smelled of alcohol.

“Ah…” Yuan Zhi said as she looked at Zi Long and swayed about, “Lord Zhao Yun~”

It was clear that she was at her mental limits. Even so, she had a wide open smile on her beet red face that would have been really beautiful if it were not for the fact that it was a result of her chugging down liquor.

“Lord Xu Shu, this battle was won thanks to you.: Zi Long spoke up as she stuck her spear into the ground and saluted Yuan Zhi, “If it were not for you and Xuan De, we would have died by now.”

“… No need to thank me,” Yuan Zhi said as she shook her head, “I was actually proposing to attack from another angle.”

Eh?

“Yuan Zhi, this was all you…”

“If you really want to thank someone, then thank him.” Yuan Zhi interrupted me and pointed at me. No, she probably was not interrupting me and this was simply because of her slower mental faculties from being inebriated.

“As for me, I was just making up for my past misdeeds.” Yuan Zhi continued softly as she nodded to herself.

Making up for her past misdeeds huh? Looks like she was still hung about what happened in the last battle and never forgave herself about the failed raid on Fan city. That is why she worked so hard in this battle to the point where she had to rely on chugging down liquor to boost her guts to lead the charge.

“D-does e-everyone think that m-my… Guidance in this battle was… U-useful? Have I… Fulfilled the role of a strategist…?”

“Of course you have,” I immediately replied, feeling tearful from grat.i.tude, :You’ve contributed so much in this battle.”

“Yes, I admit that I spoke out of turn before.” Zi Long said as she frowned, “I was too anxious back then and what with my personality as well…”

Zi Long seemed to really feel bad about what she said, to the point where she found it difficult to put into words how she felt.

“…” At this, Yuan Zhi merely waved her hand dismissively as she shook her head and lay down against her horse as she closed her eyes.

“Even though… It was really risky this time…” Yuan Zhi continued, “But we have reaped rewards… I used my own methods to break the 8 Doors Golden Lock.”

“Of course you did.” Feng Xian said as she nodded. There was no way that she understood that there was an even better way to deal with the formation. But as we discussed before, there was no way we would use it if we could not save Zi Long in the process.

*Tatatata*…

“Report! Report! Report!” A figure on horseback galloped over as he yelled anxiously.

“What is it?” Zi Long asked as we made our way towards him.

Only Yuan Zhi stayed where she was and looked at us as she slowly spoke up, “Alright, it’s finally ended.”

“Ended?” I asked but then immediately understood what she meant, “Ah~ I see.”

“Un un, we can be happy now.”

Yes… Now that the final step is completed, we can finally rest easy now. Just from seeing the courier, I can tell that we can already begin with the celebratory preparations. Of course, the first thing for me to do would be to go and check on Yi De.

“Well then, what needs to be done now is the easy part.” Yuan Zhi continued with a smile while her eyes remained closed, “When we return to the city, Lord Zhao Yun should bring her troops back to the encampment and the rest should prepare everything needed for administration work and we can then move to Fan city…”

*Dang*!

Eh? Just as we were looking at a drunken Yuan Zhi happily as she explained what to do next, she fell off her horse and landed with a dull thud.
