Chapter 3
VOLUME 10 CHAPTER 3: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS THE CALM AFTER THE BATTLE OF FAN CITY (3)

Liu Bei POV

If this were before, Yi De would have yelled out by now and would be overwhelmed by embarra.s.sment. However, she seemed calm now, extraordinarily calm.

“Umm, Yi De?” I called out. For a moment I wondered if she had gotten used to such ‘events’ but immediately shot myself down. There was no way that someone could get used to such things. The reason why she is behaving like this is because she has something on her mind, “What’s the matter?”

My guess is that this ‘something’ has to do with the last battle.

“My lord, I disappointed you.” She said as she s.h.i.+fted her gaze between my face and the ground before settling on the ground, “I really am useless.”

“Why is Yi De saying this? I asked, feeling a little flabbergasted as I went to sit beside her, “I thought your performance was very good in the city battle.”

Just asking on your own initiative to join the battle is already good enough.

“Un…” Yi De grunted as she frowned and shook her head, “But I’m simply too useless. I asked to join the battle but ended up holding you back. I ran away halfway in the fight and even fainted…”

Her voice became softer and softer as she went on until she trailed off. At the same time she was gripping the bed sheets rather tightly as well.

So that was what she was talking about huh?

“I don’t think that’s a big deal. I was like that as well in my first battle. It’s understandable to react like how you did.”

“Un…” Yi De managed to understand what I meant and stopped blaming herself but remained curled up and her mood did not improve.

Now seems to be a good time for me to ask what I want to. She started a topic that I can carry on from after all.

“By the way, did Yi De remember anything?”

“Eh?”

“No, what I meant was with respect to your martial prowess.” I hurriedly added on when I saw that her expression changed, “That is… Look, you managed to best Lu Xiang in this battle even though you didn’t really know how to fight in the first battle.”

Yes, this was the first thing that surprised me in this battle. And of all the things that surprised me in this battle, this was one of those that were good surprised.

“About that…” Yi De said and paused as she tilted her head and thought hard before looking at me with confidence, “I was actually going to speak with my lord about this.”

“Eh? What do you mean?” I was really surprised by how firm and confident she looked at me but then she blinked and returned to how she was normally and looked away.

“Un… To put it simply, what I did on the battlefield are not my accomplishments. I didn’t do anything.”

Eh? Is she trying to be humble here?

“No no no, I don’t think that’s right of Yi De to say that.” I said as I waved my hands, “Though you did run off and faint after the battle ended, you did pretty well for most of it. When we finally hold a celebratory banquet, I have to highlight your accomplishments and I hope you do not turn me down then.”

“My lord.” Yi De said in a firmer tone, “What I said is the truth.”

“What do you mean? Are you saying that you killed Lu Xiang thanks to luck?”

“No, that’s not it.” She said with some frustration as her aura weakened again, “What I mean is that I do not have any mastery in the martial arts

but Zhang Yi De does.”

Ah… Wait. Is Zhang Fei, Yi De and Zhang Yi De not the same person? Or is the one sitting in front of me Yi De’s little sister? Haha, no way.

“Umm, I really don’t understand you.” I said as I rubbed my temple, “If possible, I hope that you can explain it to me clearly.”

“Ah… Actually, it’s…” Yi De leaned forward and began to explain herself but then trailed off as she curled up again.

“What is it?”

“It’s… Umm…” Yi De stammered as she looked down and shot me glances here and there.

Yi De was like a bicycle with a hole in its tire. She would pump in air every time but because of the hole, her tire would become flat before she could get far enough. This kept repeating and I was at a loss as to what to do.

It was clear that Yi De has something to say and it was also clear that she had difficulties saying it, just like the last time. I also do not need to ask to know that her memories have not returned. Be that as it may, she seems to know something about that.

I sighed as I looked at Yi De who was having trouble expressisng herself, “Yi De, if you haven’t thought of how to say what you want to, then it’s fine if you do it next time.”

At this time, it’s better for me to take a step back. I cannot force Yi De now as she still needs time for now–

“No,” Yi De replied definitively and interrupted my thoughts as she shook her head, “Please let me do so. I have wanted to tell my lord this for a while now.”

“Eh?” I uttered in surprise as I looked at Yi De’s eyes which had a gleam in them as she looked at me as though she were pleading with me, “Ah, if you can.”

I nodded when I finished and waited patiently for Yi De to prepare herself. It seems like Yi De has decided to tell me about some things that should be related to my questions about her martial prowess she displayed in this battle.

After a while, she opened her mouth with a determined look, “Umm… Actually, I–”

*Bang*! *Dang*!

“Wu!”

Just then, cras.h.i.+ng sounds and a female cry could be heard coming from the next room. Both Yi De and I were shocked by the sudden noises and sat there in a daze. Yi De was so shocked that she could not continue and I too did not ask her to as I looked at the wall.

Wait, Yuan Zhi is the one over there right? C-could it be that Yuan Zhi is awake as well?

My concern instantly s.h.i.+fted to Yuan Zhi in the next room and I got up with the intention of seeing what had happened.

“Ah, my lord.” Yi De called out to me just as I reached the doorway. I turned back and saw that she wanted to say what she was about to before but I really do not have the leisure to listen to her now. When I looked at her, I could tell that she was still rather nervous and seemed to be forcing herself. In that case, I might as well give her more time.

“It’s fine. You can think about what you were going to say and tell me the next time.” I said and shot her a smile.

“Ah… Un.” As I expected, Yi De finally nodded in agreement after mulling over it.

As I looked at Yi De who seemed rather downcast, I felt that I could not just leave things as they were. Besides, I had not told her one more thing.

“Yi De.”

“Un?” Yi De said as she looked up at me.

“I don’t know what’s the issue with your martial prowess but whatever it is, it doesn’t change the fact that you saved me.”

“I…” Yi De frowned but did not deny it immediately or shake her head and sank into thought.
