Chapter 18
VOLUME 10 CHAPTER 18: DON’T TELL ME THIS IS FAN CITY (5)

Liu Bei POV

Yun Chang did not reply to this doubt of mine and merely entered the room in front of us ahead of Yuan Zhi and I. As she slowly pushed the doors open, unpleasant splintering sounds filled my ears.

“This house is truly broken down.” Yuan Zhi said as she followed behind Yun Chang and looked about, “Those bandits really did everything they could hack away huh?”

“Yes but we still need to go in and take a look.” Yun Chang said as she stopped pus.h.i.+ng and turned behind, “Lord Xu Shu and big brother should back up a little.”

“Be careful, Yun Chang.” I said to her but she looked through the crack and slowly pushed open the doors.

*Giiyaaaaaaaaaaa*

A long and loud creak filled the air and a significant amount of dust flew out into our faces. Yun Chang raised her hand and pinched her nose while we held up our sleeves to cover our faces.

“How is it, Yun Chang?”

“*Ke* *Ke* It’s fine.” Yun Chang said as she coughed and looked inside, “There’s nothing much except piles of dust.”

Yuan Zhi and I exchanged glances before entering the room.

“Slow down, big brother.” Yun Chang said as she entered the room with slow, careful movements so that she would not kick up any dust. We too did the same but it was very difficult to do so in such an environment.

For me, just the slightest step seemed to make a lot of dust fly up while Yuan Zhi, who walked in like how she usually did, kicked up almost no dust at all. This made me think back to how she deftly jumped across the stones while in Xinye city. Looks like there is a lot more to her than I thought.

“Un, they took away 2 pillars.” Yuan Zhi said as she looked up. I looked up as well and saw that of the 3 pillars, only the central one was left and the left and right pillars were hacked away.

Just then, the cold winds blew once more and creaking sounds came from the ceiling.

“We can’t stay here for too long, let’s do a quick search and then get out of here.” Yun Chang said as she began to search the room.

Yuan Zhi nodded calmly and began searching as well. As for me, I had already begun to search the room. It was large but there were clear signs that it had been ransacked. There were also signs of blood here and there on the floor.

“There’s nothing unusual in this room, big brother.” Yun Chang said as she slowly walked over to me, “It’s been almost a month since the robbery happened. It would be strange if there were any survivors from the robbery and even if there were any, I’m afraid that by now…”

“I understand.” I nodded. But there was indeed something I heard back then. It was different from the sounds created by the building but there’s nothing in this room at least.

“Ah yes, Yun Chang.”

“Un?”

“Umm, thanks for your hard work in this battle.” I said as I walked over to Yun Chang who was fiddling with 2 clay figurines on the table. They were really intricate but brittle and it was truly a miracle that they managed to survive.

“It was alright. I didn’t actually take part in any frontal battle after all.”

Wu, I felt even worse off inside when I heard this.

“That’s my fault.”

“Eh?”

“Over the course of this battle, I made you do 2 sneaky raids and 1 fake defection. It was too much.” I said as calmly as I could but my emotions began to well up and overwhelm me when I thought about how the honourable and loyal Yun Chang  was forced to do such

despicable acts.

“Big brother, big brother.”

“… Eh?” I blinked and then realised that I had stood there in a daze for a while. As I blinked, 2 tears fell from my eyes and landed on the table, sending a small amount of dust flying out.

“Big brother…” Yun Chang called out to me as she smiled with red cheeks, “Thanks again for big brother’s concern but for the sake of big brother’s path, I am willing to put my path aside. I do not like it very much but I do not regret what I have done.”

When Yun Chang finished, she hugged me. I was surprised and did not know what to do in response, especially when we were still in this room, but returned the hug anyway.

“Ah…”

“Umm… Yun Chang–”

“You 2! Watch out~”

Eh? I looked to the side and saw Yuan Zhi running over with an alarmed expression. I was surprised at first and wondered what had happened but a giant crack came from above us. I looked up and saw a giant piece of the ceiling fall toward us.

Wu!

“Watch out, Yun Chang!” I yelled as I tried to pull Yun Chang, who was slightly taller than I was, below me.

Eh? But just as I was about to do so, a gust of wind came from beside me and Yun Chang disappeared from my view as she had leapt up and sliced apart the debris.

*Sou* *Sou* *Sou*!

I blinked and looked about and saw that I was unharmed. Yun Chang landed beside me and looked up, “Looks like it can’t last for much longer huh?”

“Hahaha!” I chuckled as I saw this. I cannot believe that I forgot who she was just because I got hugged by her… I really am naive…

“Are you both alright?” Yuan Zhi asked as she came over with her sword drawn, “Really, you both ought to be more vigilant.”

“And also watch where you both are.” She added.

Wu. Yun Chang’s face immediately became a bright red when she heard what Yuan Zhi said.

“Alright, let’s leave since there’s nothing in this room.”

Looks like… Yun Chang does have a girly side to her after all.

“Xuan De, what are you smiling at? It’s so disgusting.”

“Eh? Nothing?” I answered as I looked at Yuan Zhi but she had gone ahead and left me behind. This was the first time I was being berated by her like this. It seems like how she usually acts but there’s something different this time.

*w.a.n.g* *w.a.n.g*!

Just as we were exiting the room, Red Hare’s barks could be heard.

“Red Hare!” Feng Xian yelled.

*Bang*!!

A loud, deafening bang followed Feng Xian’s yell and all of us were shocked. We quickly exchanged glances and dashed out of the room and went for the hall where the sound came from.

“Lord Lu Bu! What happened?!” Zi Long yelled as she came running over to the main hall with the rest of the others who were searching the right room.

“Feng Xian! What happened?” I yelled as well as we entered the main hall.

No one was inside the main hall and we looked about before seeing Feng Xian and Wen Yuan squatting near the annex. Behind her, it seems like the way to the annex was blocked by debris.

“We’re fine, we’re fine.” Wen Yuan said as she smiled and pointed at the annex, “It just collapsed here, that’s all. Hahaha!”

Wen Yuan may be laughing, but it was clear that she was not over her shock. I looked over at Feng Xian and saw that she was still squatting with Red Hare, who was quivering in her arms.

“Feng Xian, what happened?”

“Red Hare got startled?”

“Startled?”

“I don’t know what just happened but Red Hare began barking loudly all of a sudden and tried to charge into the annex.” Zhou Cang explained, “Because of the loud sounds, the room began shaking and this part of the ceiling collapsed. Luckily, Lord Lu Bu was swift enough and saved Red Hare.”

“I see… Is Red Hare hurt? And you, Feng Xian?”

“We’re fine.” Feng Xian said coldly as she got up and dusted herself, all the while staring at the annex and pointed at it as she continued, “That’s not important now. There’s someone inside there.”
