_Then the Priest standing up shall say_,

O Lord, shew thy mercy upon us.

_Answer_. And grant us thy salvation.

_Priest_. O Lord, save the King.

_Answer_. And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.

_Priest_. Endue thy Ministers with righteousness.

_Answer_. And make thy chosen people joyful.

_Priest_. O Lord, save thy people.

_Answer_. And bless thine inheritance.

_Priest_. Give peace in our time, O Lord.

_Answer_. Because there is none other that fighteth or us, but only thou, O G.o.d.

_Priest_. O G.o.d, make clean our hearts within us.

_Answer_. And take not thy Holy Spirit from us.

_Then shall follow three Collects: The first of the day, which shall be the same that is appointed at the Communion: The second for Peace: The third for Grace to live well. And the two last Collects shall never alter, but daily be said at Morning Prayer throughout all the year, as followeth, all kneeling_.

_The Second Collect, for Peace_.

O G.o.d, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us thy humble servants in all a.s.saults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

_The Third Collect, for Grace_.

O Lord our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting G.o.d, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day: Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings may be ordered by thy governance, to do always that is righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

_Amen_.

_In Quires and Places where they sing here followeth the Anthem_.

_Then these five Prayers following are to be read here: Except when the Litany is read; and then only the two last are to be ready as they are there placed_.

_A Prayer for the King's Majesty_.

O Lord our heavenly Father, high and mighty, King of kings, Lord of lords, the only Ruler of princes, who dost from thy throne behold all the dwellers upon earth: Most heartily we beseech thee with thy favour to behold our most gracious Sovereign Lord, King _GEORGE_, and so replenish him with the grace of thy Holy Spirit, that he may alway incline to thy will, and walk in thy way: Endue him plenteously with heavenly gifts; grant him in health and wealth long to live; strengthen him that he may vanquish and overcome all his enemies, and finally after this life he may attain everlasting joy and felicity; through Jesus Christ our Lord, _Amen_.

_A Prayer for the Royal Family_.

Almighty G.o.d, the fountain of all goodness, we humbly beseech thee to bless our gracious Queen _Mary_, _Alexandra_ the Queen Mother, _Edward_ Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family: Endue them with thy Holy Spirit; enrich them with thy heavenly grace; prosper them with all happiness; and bring them to thine ever lasting kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. _Amen_.

| _The following Prayer may be said at Morning Prayer, for the_ | _King, the Royal Family, the Ministers of the Crown, the_ | _Parliament_ (_when in session_), _and those in authority,_ | _instead of the Prayers_ For the King's Majesty, For the Royal | Family, _and_ For the High Court of Parliament; _but always_ | _either the following Prayer, or those above noted, shall be_ | _used, together with the_ Prayer for the Clergy and People, | _the_ Prayer of St Chrysostom, _and_ the Grace, _unless the_ | _Litany be said_.

| | O Lord G.o.d of our fathers, who rulest the nations of the earth; | Most heartily we beseech thee with thy favour to behold our | Sovereign Lord, King _GEORGE_, that he may alway incline to thy | will and walk in thy way; and together with him bless our | gracious Queen _Mary_, _Alexandra_ the Queen Mother, _Edward_ | Prince of Wales, and all the Royal Family. Endue with wisdom | the Ministers of the Crown, [the High Court Of Parliament at | this time a.s.sembled *,] and those who are set in authority over | us, that all things may be so ordered and settled by their | endeavours, that peace and happiness, truth and justice, | religion and piety, may be established among us for all | generations; through Jesus Christ our Lord. _Amen_.

| | [Margin Note] *to be said when the Parliament is in Session.

_A Prayer for the Clergy and People_.

Almighty and everlasting G.o.d, who alone workest great marvels: Send down upon our Bishops and Curates, and all Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy grace; and that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. _Amen_.

_A Prayer of Saint Chrysostom_.

Almighty G.o.d, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their requests: Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and pet.i.tions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. _Amen_.

2 _Corinthians_ xiii.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of G.o.d, and the fellows.h.i.+p of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore. _Amen_.

_Here endeth the Order of Morning Prayer throughout the Year_.

THE ORDER FOR

EVENING PRAYER

DAILY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

_At the beginning of Evening Prayer the Minister shall read with a loud voice some one or more of these Sentences of the Scriptures that follow. And then he shall say that which is written after the said Sentences_.

When the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. _Ezek_. xviii. 27.

I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

_Psalm_ li. 3.

Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

_Psalm_ li. 9.

The sacrifices of G.o.d are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O G.o.d, thou wilt not despise. _Psalm_ li. 17.

Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your G.o.d: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. _Joel_ ii. 13.

To the Lord our G.o.d belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him: neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our G.o.d, to walk in his laws which he set before us. _Dan_.

ix. 9, 10.

O Lord, correct me, but with judgement; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing. _Jer_. x. 24. _Psalm_ vi. 1.

Repent ye; for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. _St Matth_. iii. 2.
