Chapter 22
Saying that they needed to get up early, the two still woke up at noon the next day.
Since neither of them ate dinner last night and they woke up late, they were already hungry when they got up. Fortunately, Lu Hao Li cooked a chicken and chestnut soup last night. Although it was stewed for a long time in the rice cooker, it didn’t lose the rich aroma of the ca.s.serole, and the two ate it one bowl after another.
Hai Xiu had ate too much. He was lying down in front of the window and hugging his stomach. He said while watching the snow: "It seems the snow came down last night."
Feng Fei was a bit distracted as he nodded and said: "Come and let’s do our homework?"
Hai Xiu suddenly remembered something, he quickly said: "I'll go get my homework, you… you wait here."
He didn’t wait for Feng Fei's response, he got up and went upstairs. Feng Fei didn’t need to see to know that Hai Xiu was about to secretly eat the calcium pills.
Feng Fei recently found a collagen supplement that looked almost the same as that drug Hai Xiu took, he just needed a time so he could swap Hai Xiu's calcium pills again. Feng Fei had consulted a doctor before, and the doctor said that it was not good if Hai Xiu only took the calcium pills for a long time. So Feng Fei also bought some collagen supplements and had to swap it with the calcium pills.
Feng Fei shook his head and sighed, he was really thoughtful when it came to Hai Xiu.
Hai Xiu, who had taken his medicine, confidently brought his homework downstairs. He said to Feng Fei: "We… need to finish it today. Don’t drag it for long."
Because each time Feng Fei did his homework—especially Chinese homework, it would always get dragged until Monday. He always had a headache when writing composition and he couldn’t even copy Hai Xiu's homework. Feng Fei frowned and said: "Fine…"
Hai Xiu sat opposite of Feng Fei, he looked at the neatly set of homeworks then took the math test paper to do it. While Feng Fei had a ridiculous expression on his face while doing the composition.
Hai Xiu did the problems carefully, he didn’t skip a question nor did he choose. He started from the first one down to the last one, he would mark the key points whenever he saw them, so that he could organize the questions afterwards. His handwriting was even clean and neat, and the drafting procedures in the draft paper were concise and clear, with no traces of scribbles.
However on the other side, there were times that Feng Fei would swirl his pen, turn over the dictionary or take out his cell phone. He could barely sit still.
Hai Xiu was about to persuade Feng Fei seriously when the phone suddenly rung.
Feng Fei pardoned himself, picked up the phone and took the call to the side.
Not long after, Feng Fei came back with a strange look on his face. "He Hao… will be here later."
Hai Xiu was stunned: "He… What is he going to do here?"
Feng Fei laughed: "His mother asked him to come here because of you."
Hai Xiu didn’t understand completely: "Because… of me?"
Feng Fei: "My mom saw you here yesterday. She met He Hao's mother just now, they talked for a bit… Well, maybe more than a few words. He Hao's mother was angry and called him to go here to study together with us."
Hai Xiu was a bit confused, so Feng Fei had to elaborate a few words.
Lu Hao Li and He Hao's mother—Xiao s.h.i.+ Ling, both knew each other from a young age. Speaking of their relations.h.i.+p, the relations.h.i.+p between the two women on the first meeting was very general and was only of a female apprentice. It just happened to be a coincidence that they always met and had to cooperate with the case. Like for example, you were my first party today and I was your second party tomorrow1. They looked harmonious and got along very well on the surface, and "Elder sister this and sister that" would always be heard from their mouths. But if someone were not innocently ignorant, they would find out that the two were really dissatisfied with each other. There was no semi-private communication except for official business only.
When the two women started getting older and both had their own careers, after being mutually reprehensible for a long time and meeting again, they were no longer hostile to each other. They would occasionally give a few words of sympathy. And when Feng Fei and He Hao were a.s.signed to the same cla.s.s, the relations of the two families became even closer.
Although their relations.h.i.+p was now modest, they would still occasionally oppressed each other a few times as a life adjustment.
For example, just now.
"My mom just met He Hao's mother, and intentionally told her…" Feng Fei laughed in spite of trying not to, "She said that her son is reading books with his cla.s.smate who ranked first right now. Then she asked about He Hao’s recent results."
Hai Xiu's face was blus.h.i.+ng as he whispered: "Only… in our cla.s.s."
"It's about the same." Feng Fei smiled, "Do you know what He Hao's results are? Oh… it's really bad. My mom boasted about you, she even said how good your relations.h.i.+p with me is and that my recent performances are progressing quickly because of how helpful you are to me. He Hao’s mother was angry and called him, who just got a good sleep after going home at 4am, to come here and do his homeworks."
Hai Xiu couldn’t help laughing, then he said: "So he will go here later?"
Feng Fei nodded: "If you're bothered by him, I’ll call him and tell him not to come here."
"There's no need." Recently, Hai Xiu frequently went to many occasions, that was why he was a bit enthusiastic about it and not quite conflicted, "It's fine… to go here."
Feng Fei let out an "En" sound, then said to rea.s.sure Hai Xiu: "No need to worry about him. He'll just copy the homework, then I'll let him go home after that."
Less than an hour, He Hao indeed came.
He really did come just to copy the homework.
"You don’t know how much my mom scolded me. f.u.c.k… my ear still hurts." He Hao's eyes were full of grievances, "You… You are off the hook because you’re willing to learn ah! Why are you and your mother a show off?! My mom was angry and scolded me. After scolding me, she scolded dad and then dad scolded me. What the h.e.l.l have I done wrong to be scolded by the two? I didn’t even offend anyone…"
He Hao had dark circles under his eyes. He was complaining while copying the homework, Feng Fei laughed and said: "Stop saying nonsense and just finish copying Hai Xiu's homework."
He Hao came back to his senses and looked up at Hai Xiu to apologize: "I didn’t say it's you. I meant… I was talking about Feng Fei. You write it quickly. I would like to hurry back and get some sleep after copying it."
Feng Fei stared at He Hao, his sense of superiority arose spontaneously. He exclaimed: "This set of mathematics test papers… I wrote it faster than him!"
He Hao turned to Feng Fei and scoffed: "Okay, fine. I’ll copy it quickly."
He Hao copied the homework with an irritated expression on his face. Feng Fei raised his eyebrow at Hai Xiu, obviously saying: Look at how different we are.
Hai Xiu smiled and said softly: "You… you haven’t written your composition yet."
Lu Hao Li's exaggeration of boasting about Hai Xiu to others put Feng Fei in a very good mood. He finally raised an interest and began writing the essay.
However, Feng Fei would only write for a while before getting up to do something. Hai Xiu had been worried about Feng Fei's bad habit because this would be a waste of time once he takes the exam. He Hao was sitting on one side, so Hai Xiu was very shy to talk about it. He was left with no choice, but to write a small note then pa.s.sed it to Feng Fei.
When Feng Fei received the small note, he glanced at He Hao with one eye and suddenly felt that Hai Xiu's little habit of pa.s.sing a small note was very cute. He then wrote a sentence before giving it back to Hai Xiu.
The examination time is two and half hours. Your writing time is almost two hours.
I don’t have any desire to write again. What do you want to eat in the evening? I’m still full even though we just drank a light soup at noon.
Hai Xiu didn’t write a small note again, instead he smiled down to do his homework. Feng Fei let out a cough sound, but Hai Xiu still ignored him, so Feng Fei lightly kicked Hai Xiu's foot under the table. Hai Xiu hid his feet, but Feng Fei didn’t give up, stretched his leg and kicked again. Hai Xiu felt helpless, so he no longer hid his feet, Feng Fei was satisfied at this and continued on kicking. Hai Xiu then glanced at He Hao and felt a little embarra.s.sed.
Feng Fei knew that Hai Xiu was about to finish writing, that was why he wasn’t afraid to disturb Hai Xiu at all. So while writing the essay, he would rub Hai Xiu's leg from time to time just to amuse himself.
After copying the homework, He Hao also began writing the essay. His work shouldn’t be the same as Feng Fei, so he had to repeatedly elaborate an argument several times just to gather enough 200 words. When he looked at Feng Fei's work and found out that Feng Fei had written 200-300 words, his heart felt a bit better.
He Hao was distracted that he dropped his pen, he looked down to get the pen and accidentally saw the scene under the table.
It was almost three o'clock when He Hao arrived. After doing the homework in one afternoon, Feng Fei called for a takeout at six o'clock in the evening. And out of sympathy, he let He Hao stay to eat with them.
While waiting for the delivery, Hai Xiu went to the kitchen to cut some fruits. He Hao finally finished the homework and was now both hungry and sleepy. He was feeling a little impatient, and wanting to go home first because he didn’t know how long he would wait for the takeout to arrive.
He Hao then decided to go to the kitchen and look for Feng Fei, but he stopped abruptly upon arriving at the doorway.
At first, it was only Hai Xiu who came in the kitchen since he wanted to prepare some fruits. Feng Fei thought that the water was cold in winter, but he couldn’t wash it with hot water either, so he followed Hai Xiu in the kitchen and pushed him aside, and he himself washed the fruits.
When Hai Xiu was cutting a dragon fruit, Feng Fei washed a piece of strawberry and handed it to Hai Xiu: "It's sweet, you should taste it."
Hai Xiu reached out his hand to the strawberry, but Feng Fei avoided his hand and handed the strawberry to his mouth. Hai Xiu lowered his head and ate it. Feng Fei then rubbed Hai Xiu's soft lips with his thumb. The kid blushed, turned around to continue cutting the fruit while Feng Fei continued on feeding him one by one.
He Hao's brows furrowed, he even forgot what he had to say.
"Hey?" Feng Fei was the first one to notice He Hao and asked, "What's wrong?"
He Hao was startled: "Ah, I… I was about to say that I have something to do, I'll go ahead…"
Feng Fei put down the fruits on the plate, wiped his hand and laughed: "Because you ordered a lot of food? And you'll just leave it to us to eat it? The takeout will be here soon, eat first then go."
"Not really." He Hao started walking towards the front door, Feng Fei followed behind him, "I just got a phone call and I really have something to do. I need to go ah."
He Hao insisted on going and Feng Fei thought that it was impossible to let him stay, he then said: "Okay, take care."
"You…" He Hao hesitated again and again, he still couldn’t help but ask: "You two…"
Feng Fei laughed: "You're also stuttering? Do you want me to give you some medicine to eat? I'm not joking ah, I really have a cure for that kind of illness."
He Hao frowned: "Who is joking with you? Is… Hai Xiu, he’s not going?"
"Why would he go?" Feng Fei was even more ignorant, "He lives here."
He Hao felt more confused and asked: "He lives here? Aren’t your parents not always here?"
"My mom came back yesterday." Feng Fei smiled: "What do you actually want to say?"
The uneasiness in He Hao's mind slowly zoomed in, he couldn’t tell where it was wrong, but he really felt awkward. He frowned: "You… Don’t you think that you’re too friendly to him?"
"Jealous?" Feng Fei laughed, "Then you can also find one for yourself."
He Hao felt even more anxious when he heard these: "You… Are you stupid? He’s a man and yet, you’re so friendly to him."
Feng Fei ridiculed: "Do you really think that I’m friendly to him?"
He Hao gave a silly nod, thinking that Feng Fei had to explain something. But Feng Fei sneered and said: “No, I don’t think so, but I’m still willing to do anything for him. If you don’t like it, then leave. Go on, go away.”
He Hao had only know Feng Fei for a few years, and although Feng Fei had never been too friendly, he still had helped him with things in the past. He Hao answered in an anxious voice: “Do you even hear what you’re saying? I’m worried about you….”
"My pleasure." Feng Fei knew that He Hao was only saying those words for his sake, he smiled and said: "I'm still not quite sure if he is… Forget it. We’ll talk about it later."
Before going, Feng Fei warned He Hao and didn’t allow him to talk nonsense about it to others.
