Chapter 2 – The Martial Spirit’s Amazing Use
Translator: Mr Voltaire
Editor: Master Shadow
As a descendant of the Xiao family’s main house, the courtyard that Xiao Yun lived in was not bad, but was starting to decay.
There were only 2 servants in this big courtyard.
Back when Xiao Yun had first awakened his Martial Spirit, there were many Iron Guards who were in the Innate realm standing guard, as well as countless maids. After Xiao Yun’s cultivation had stopped progressing, the number of servants in this courtyard had steadily decreased.
This was especially after his grandpa went into closed-door training 2 years ago and had handed the family’s matters to Xiao Yun’s uncle. From then onwards, the resources he received grew fewer and fewer.
If it weren’t for the fact that he had helped Aunty Li and Huan’Er in the past, the mother and daughter pair probably would have left as well.
“Young master Yun, things are bad. Miss Ling’Er’s Chilling Qi has broken out again,” a worried voice rang out as soon as Xiao Yun entered the courtyard. It was maid Huan’Er, who was hurriedly running over. It seemed that Ling’Er’s condition had taken a turn for the worse again.
“Why is it 2 hours earlier than normal?” Xiao Yun frowned. He knew that the Chilling Qi within his little sister’s body was becoming stronger and stronger, so he immediately walked towards the room and pushed open the doors.
When Xiao Yun opened the tightly-closed doors, a wave of Chilling Qi swept out from within the room.
Behind him, Huan’Er stood s.h.i.+vering and didn’t dare to even enter.
Even an Innate realm expert would be afraid of such coldness, let alone a frail girl who had no cultivation.
Xiao Yun slightly frowned, his face full of worry as he unhesitatingly entered the room.
After entering, he saw a bonfire, vigorously fighting against the Chilling Qi.
Upon the exquisite bed lay a girl covered with many layers of thick blankets. However, her body was curled up and s.h.i.+vering. Hearing the sound of the door opening, she poked her head out of blankets.
She was a small, delicate-looking girl. There was a layer of ice crystals on her long, white eyelashes, and her entire face seemed to be covered with a thin coat of frost. Xiao Yun’s heart ached upon seeing this scene.
“Big bro.” The young girl opened her eyes as she looked at the young man hurrying towards her. She gave a light smile, as if seeing her big brother arrive had caused the pain to disappear.
“Don’t be afraid, Ling’Er. Big bro will help you extract the Chilling Qi.” Although the Chilling Qi caused him to tremble, he ignored it and connected with his Martial Spirit.
A jade-green branch appeared on the skin of his palms, s.h.i.+ning with a brilliant light.
“Absorb!” Xiao Yun gripped the young girl’s frozen hands as he started to use his Martial Spirit to absorb the Chilling Qi.
It was quite strange – the Chilling Qi that even Innate realm experts feared was continuously being absorbed by the jade-green branch. Xiao Yun’s Martial Spirit did not seem to mind the coldness at all, and the temperature in the room gradually rose again.
An hour later, the Chilling Qi in the room was all but gone, and the originally s.h.i.+vering girl started to recover. There were no longer any ice crystals on her eyelashes, and her small face began to regain its rosy complexion.
However, Xiao Yun’s face began to grow pale, and Chilling Qi started to appear around his temples.
All of the Chilling Qi had been transferred into his body, causing him to uncontrollably tremble.
Xiao Yun did his best to suppress it as he gritted his teeth and continued to absorb the Chilling Qi from Xiao Ling’Er’s body.
“Big bro, it’s enough. I’m fine now.” Xiao Ling’Er’s eyes became teary as she felt a warmth within her heart. Her big brother had continued to endure despite his face looking so pale and him struggling to endure the coldness.
“It’s fine, I can bear it.” Xiao Yun forced out a smile as he continued to control his Martial Spirit to absorb the Chilling Qi within his little sister’s body. If he didn’t extract all the Chilling Qi in one go, it would damage her body.
As such, despite the fact that he was on the verge of collapsing, Xiao Yun continued to grit his teeth and absorb the Chilling Qi from his little sister.
This was his little sister after all, with whom he was mutually dependent on for life…
If he didn’t look after her, who would look after her?
Seeing the resolute expression on her big brother’s face, tears streaked out of Xiao Ling’Er’s eyes.
She had seen this sort of scene many times over the past few years.
Every time the Chilling Qi broke out, Xiao Ling’Er would hope that her big brother would appear to lessen her pain.
However, her heart greatly ached when she saw the pain that her big brother endured as a result of the Chilling Qi.
After a while, Xiao Yun let out a breath and let go of Xiao Ling’Er’s hands.
The Chilling Qi within her body had been temporarily dispelled.
“Big bro, are you alright?” Xiao Ling’Er asked as she blinked, looking incredibly worried for her big brother.
“I’m fine; I just need some time to neutralise this Chilling Qi,” Xiao Yun said as he gave a faint smile. An anxious expression appeared on his face as he continued, “The Chilling Qi in your body is becoming stronger and stronger, and your illness is breaking out more and more frequently. I’m going to go to the Violet Cloud Mountain tomorrow to find some Fire Essence Fruits to suppress your Chilling Qi.”
“Big bro, are you going by yourself?” Xiao Ling’Er worriedly asked. There were many powerful demonic beasts at the Violet Cloud Mountain, and her brother was only at the Sixth Layer of Body Tempering. If he were to run into one of those demonic beasts, how would he survive?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Xiao Yun a.s.sured as he waved his hand.
“Should we ask someone from the family to go with you?” Xiao Ling’Er asked as she looked up at Xiao Yun.
“Someone from the family?” Xiao Yun made a wry face, after which his eyes became resolute. “Don’t worry, even without any help from the family, big bro will make sure that you can live well. When my Martial Spirit becomes stronger, I’ll be able to help you extract the Chilling Qi even more easily.”
“I believe in big bro,” Xiao Ling’Er said as she nodded.
A few years ago, the family had brought her some Fire Essence Fruits to suppress her Chilling Qi. However, no one was willing to do this for them anymore.
This was because the Fire Essence Fruits couldn’t cure the Chilling Qi within her body, but costed a small fortune. Many people in the family protested, so after the Xiao family’s grandfather went into closed-door training, they stopped providing them with Fire Essence Fruits.
They had a simple reason – she doesn’t possess our Xiao family’s bloodline, so why should our family waste our resources on her?
After that, Xiao Yun had never asked any of the seniors in the family for help.
Xiao Ling’Er also knew that she was just an adopted daughter of Xiao Yun’s father.
After giving Xiao Ling’Er some instructions, Xiao Yun returned to his own room and started to neutralise the Chilling Qi within his body.
He sat on his bed as his mind sank into his sea of consciousness and integrated with his Martial Spirit, neutralising the Chilling Qi.
The Martial Spirit’s jade-green branch was covered by a thick fog and seemed to be affected by the Chilling Qi. There were ice crystals on the leaves and Xiao Yun felt as if his own soul had been frozen.
The Martial Spirit was continuously neutralising the Chilling Qi and absorbing as much of it as it could.
As time pa.s.sed, the Chilling Qi was finally fully absorbed by the jade-green branch, and Xiao Yun’s body felt warm once again.
After checking over it again, Xiao Yun felt that the jade-green branch had become bigger and stronger.
This terrifying Chilling Qi had become a source of nourishment for his Martial Spirit. It was just that his Martial Spirit was still too weak and couldn’t fully absorb the Chilling Qi within such a short period of time. Xiao Yun was confident that as long as his Martial Spirit continued to grow, soon, he would be able to neutralise and absorb the Chilling Qi as he extracted it.
Perhaps his talent would even return after its long absence.
Was an upgradeable Martial Spirit really a trash Martial Spirit?
Definitely not.
Xiao Yun could feel his Martial Spirit increasing the rate at which he could absorb Heaven and Earth Essence Qi.
However, what was truly worrying was that the Chilling Qi within Xiao Ling’Er’s body was becoming stronger and stronger.
“I wonder what sort of const.i.tution little sis Ling’Er has.” Although Xiao Yun felt quite worried, he was determined to protect his little sister and cure her of her Chilling Qi so that she could live happily.
Early the next morning, Xiao Yun packed some dried food and headed towards the mountain ranges outside the Violet Cloud County.
This mountain was called the Violet Cloud Mountain, and was filled with demonic beasts and legendary medicines. Xiao Yun had gone there to look for medicines a month ago, hoping to find something that could suppress the Chilling Qi within his little sister’s body. His efforts were not in vain, and he found a region of fire-element plants, which was just what he needed.
The climate of this mountain was quite hot and arid. Upon entering the depths of the mountain, one would become thirsty and parched quite quickly. Xiao Yun enjoyed running through the woods, and followed the familiar path towards where he had found those plants before.
“Who would have thought that these Fire Essence Fruits would have ripened in just a month? Looks like there might be even more Fire Essence Fruits deeper within the mountain.” Xiao Yun had already found 5 Fire Essence Fruits, which was quite a bountiful harvest.
These fruits could be sold for quite a high price!
“The denser the Fire Essence is, the more Fire Essence Fruits grow. There should be a Fire Origin over there.” Xiao Yun detected the movements in the air around him and sprinted towards a location behind him.
After he had finished climbing over a perilous peak, the sun had already set. By this time, Xiao Yun came to a chasm.
In front of him, flames shot up to the sky, and fiery waves billowed out from within the flames.
The fiery waves made it difficult for him to breathe and Xiao Yun could feel his insides burning.
“There are definitely medicines birthed by Fire Essence here.”
In front of him was a chasm of fire, which looked like a gigantic mouth that continuously bubbled with lava.
Upon the cliffs of the chasm was a crimson-red flower, blowing in the wind.
“That’s a Fire Soul Flower, an extremely rare type of plant. With that flower, I’ll be able to suppress lil sis’ Chilling Qi, even if I don’t do anything.”, Xiao Yun became incredibly excited at the sight of the flower and began to climb down the cliff.
Despite the burning-hot rocks scorching his hands, Xiao Yun didn’t even consider giving up.
There would definitely be a time when he wouldn’t be able to stay by his little sister’s side. With this medicine, he would be able to make sufficient preparations.
Xiao Yun slowly climbed down the cliff on which the Fire Soul Flower was growing, and cautiously looked around him before reaching out towards it.
Below him was a chasm of fire; he didn’t dare to be reckless!
After plucking out the flower and feeling the wave of heat from the Fire Essence, Xiao Yun let out a breath of relief.
Ssssssss!
At this moment, a monstrous scream rang out, causing Xiao Yun’s delighted expression to vanish in an instant.
“c.r.a.p, there was a Fire Python guarding this Fire Soul Flower!” Xiao Yun looked around in shock. Not too far away, a Fire Python was slithering over and savagely whipped its fiery tail towards Xiao Yun.
