Is it just me, or are the chapters getting wordier? Sorry if it’s a bit clunky, didn’t really have time to go over it. Some of the lines are kinda written as thoughts, so I put them in italics and was a bit liberal in part of the translations cause it doesn’t really work out too well in English.
That aside, hope you enjoy the chapter~
CSWH Chapter 30: The Story of a Certain GirlWith heavy steps, the girl ran. Desperately, as though she were running away from something.
However, judging from the girl's current state, her limits were near.
Her breathing was faint, and her gait was staggering.
As a result, she tripped over a small pebble at a place that was just a short distance away from the main street, and collapsed.
Hearing the sound of footsteps approaching her from behind, an expression of despair surfaced on the girl's face.
"Jou-chan, you're being a bother. Could you not trouble us like this?"
"Right, right. Ojou-chan, be a good girl and wait with us until your father come to pick you up~"
"It's like that. So whether or not you'll be safe by the time your father comes depends on yourself."
Though the men approached while making vulgar smiles, the girl drew back as if to escape.
Apparently disliking the girl's actions, one of the men clicked his tongue, indicating his irritation.
"……I'll ask just in case, but do all of you Oji-sans plan on properly escorting this child back to her father?"
Suddenly, the voice of a third party, who had not been in the area earlier, was heard.
Even though it was an unreliable voice that contained a hint of childishness, the girl felt relieved that it wasn't one of the men's and raised her face.
"Hm? Are you okay?"
The figure of the person that she looked up at was small. They were about the same age as the girl that the men had been chasing after. Based on their hair and appearance, the girl though that they were a boy.
That person did not show any signs of fear, and looked at the girl, smiling.
"Are those people your acquaintances?"
At the following question, the girl shook her head several times.
"I see, I see……"
That person nodded, appearing to have understood something.
How easygoing……-is what the girl thought when she saw that, her brow furrowing.
"Who the h.e.l.l are you?"
"We don't have any business with you. If you don't wanna get hurt, then hurry up and go somewhere else."
"If it's with this child, then I'll go elsewhere. Otherwise, I won't leave……..so what do you want to do? Oji-sans."
Not paying any heed to the threats of the men, that person spoke aloofly.
"It seems like you won't get it until you feel some pain!"
The men held their respective weapons and attacked that person.
At such a dreadful scene, the girl closed her eyes for a single moment.
……even if he is a boy, there is no way a child my age could win.
Inside of the girl's mind, together with those words, a terrifying image emerged.
There was such a difference in physique……even though she thought that the way things were, the boy would undoubtedly receive a good beating.
When she timidly opened her eyes, the scene before her was the complete opposite.
The large men were covered in wounds, and were rolling around on the ground!
She could only gaze at that spectacle in mute amazement.
This isn't a dream, is it? - thinking that, she instinctively pinched her cheek…….pinching it harder than expected, it hurt.
"Are you alright?"
The young boy approached the girl. Although he was the one who produced such a spectacle, there wasn't any fear. Rather, relief and joy enveloped the girl.
"……y-yes. I'm alright……"
"I see……that's great. That was quite the disaster. You've become this injured……"
The boy gently stroked the girl's face. She couldn't possible say that in pinching herself, it began to swell……while feeling embarra.s.sed, the girl's eyes narrowed as she remained spellbound by the boy's kind hand.
"Thank you very much for saving me."
"There's no need for thanks. A cute child like yourself shouldn't go through this path. Come, I'll take you to the main street, so let's go together."
Taking his hand, the girl stood up and began to walk.
Wondering what happened to the men, and feeling a bit worried that they would be attacked from behind, the girl briefly glanced behind them.
"It's alright. I tied them up, so they won't be able to get up by themselves."
As if having seen through the girl's thoughts, the young boy gave a wry smile while speaking.
"T-That's true……"
"Yup. I plan on handing them over to the Army later."
"Understood. Honestly, it is thanks to you that I was saved. Thank you very much."
At the girl's thanks, this time the boy made a true smile, without a hint of impurity. The girl, who was beautifully struck by that smile, ended up going silent for the rest of their journey together.
After exiting onto the main street and walking for a bit, a group releasing a different presence from within the crowd approached from the opposite direction…….they were soldiers from the Army. Not only that, but they were soldiers under the direct control of the General.
They possessed an ability that did not shame the General's name, being at the top of the true strength faction. Perhaps because they went through such intense training, they acted in a dignified fas.h.i.+on.
"……ah, shoot……"
Upon seeing them, the young boy, who had silent like the girl up until now, muttered. He was clearly fl.u.s.tered.
Why would he, who boldly challenged the big men act in such a way……-although such a question rose in the girl's mind, she soon came to know of its answer.
The man that appeared to be leading the Army's soldiers, clearly made a surprised face when he saw the young boy……and came charging towards them.
"……you idioooot!!"
……while shouting angrily.
As she wondered what was happening, the man turned to the young boy and swung a fist down.
"I thought I didn't see you around - just what are you doing in a place like this! No, wait……I generally get what happened. Geez……don't go poking that nose of yours into other's affairs, don't!"
"It's not like I went out with the intention of poking my nose around. It's just that when I was walking around town, I learned about this case, and when I walked around a bit, I found her."
"……haaaaaah……fine. Hurry up and go back."
"Alright then…….sorry, it's like that so I'll be going."
The young boy waved his hand lightly, and quickly departed.
"……ah……"
The young girl tried to call him to a stop……but because she didn't know his name, she was unable to do so.
"I deeply apologize for being late. My name is Gazelle. I have come to pick you up."
The entrance of a hero normally draws applause. However, rather than the country's hero right in front of her, the one who was a hero to the girl was more important.
……after that, on the way back, the girl asked the General countless times for the young boy's name, but……the General continued to respond with vague words, and absolutely would not tell her.
……she would definitely meet him again. At that time, she would thank him, and……-making such a decision, the young girl vowed thus in her heart.
