Chapter 33: Beyond the Gate (2)
Zhao Qiang stood outside the gate and called to her, "Lin Xin, what are you in a daze for? You'll get discovered soon if you don't start moving!"
Lin Xin looked up and said with a smile, "You go ahead, I won't be leaving. Lin Xinyu is still here."
Zhao Qiang stomped his feet in frustration and said, "He can't die, but if we stay here, we'll surely die. If you're not going, I'll just leave by myself."
Lin Xin nodded and pointed towards the Big Dipper in the sky, before saying, "Look to the stars and head north."
Zhao Qiang looked up at the direction she pointed and no longer tried to persuade her. "You will regret it."
She replied, "Thank you. You go ahead; there's no need to wait for me."
After seeing the boy disappear towards the darkness outside, Lin Xin couldn't think of anything else other that finding Lin Xinyu straight away. If she could take him away today, they will be able to leave together. If she can't do so by tonight, then she will have to take the next step. She doesn't believe in anyone, but she does believe that she can free him from this place.
Under the moonlight, Lin Xin walked towards the direction of Lin Xin's room, but before she could walk further than ten steps, a person suddenly emerged from a dark place and stopped her tracks.
"Where do you think you're going?"
The familiar voice startled Lin Xin. She took a few steps back at looked up at the Dean's hypocritical appearance. On the contrary, she felt that there was nothing to be afraid of.
"Looking for Lin Xinyu," she said truthfully.
"It looks like you haven't been beaten enough." He removed his gla.s.ses from the bridge of his nose and wiped them using the corner of his s.h.i.+rt. "It would have been best if you had just left. That would put this matter to an end. What was you reason for coming back?"
The Dean was harder to deal with than she expected. Lin Xin had underestimated her opponent. There was not much chance of winning; now there were only one or two points left.
Lin Xin calmly said, "I came back to look for him."
The Dean pushed back his gla.s.ses again, and the lens reflected the bright cold moonlight. He looked at her quietly for a while, then said, "I really looked down. You're nothing like a child at all."
Lin Xin straightened her back and replied, "Thank you."
The Dean raised the corner of his lips and suddenly rushed towards Lin Xin. Since she had suffered a loss in the past, Lin Xin quickly reacted this time and backed away. However, she forgot that her body was still that of a child's–nothing like the 28-year-old body she once had with a belt in Taekwondo.
The Dean kicked her heavily on the stomach. Lin Xin curled up and guarded her painful abdomen; she didn't have any strength to fight back and soon fell to the ground. Despite her sorry state, she still looked up rebelliously at the Dean.
Her eyes were fierce, like the frightening eyes of a wild beast.
The Dean felt a sense of danger and a thought came to his mind that this girl should not be given another chance. This time, not only will he beat her half to death; he will also make sure to cripple her.
Just when he was about to lift his leg to aim at her foot, a child suddenly hugged his leg from behind, and he looked down upon Lin Xinyu.
"Dean, Dean you let her go. Please let her go," he pleaded. His voice was like a kitten's, sounding pleasant to the ear.
Lin Xinyu's beauty was different from that of Wu Pingping and Wu Anan. His was a kind of crystal-clear, transparent, and pure beauty. Whenever he pled to the Dean, the man couldn't bare to refuse.
Although the girl had touched his bottom line this time, he didn't want this beautiful crystal to shatter, so this time he acquiesced.
The Dean no longer dealt with Lin Xin, thinking that she would die of an illness in the near future anyways.
Lin Xin's vision was blurred. When she heard the boy pleading on her behalf, she turned towards the sound of his voice and looked up at him. His small body came near to her side to help her up. When she saw the boy's anxious expression, she wanted to ease his worries, but she was unable to hold on any longer. Lin Xin fell to the ground before completely losing consciousness.
