Chapter 23 – Destruction of the Goblin Lair
“We did it! Did you see that, Maya?! In that group of 108 people, Kein stood at the top! Even though that supposed A rank small fry provoked him, he gallantly didn't pay any attention to him, and just left. His character is different than all the others, he alllways does things with his heart.”
If sword princess Anastrea were to join the goblin slayers, she would be the one standing at the top. In reality she was just hiding and watching over Kein.
‘What is he doing' I (Maya) said with a sigh.
“Kein-sama, wonderful…”
Saint Sefilia was enamored too.
Maya wanted to cut in bluntly and say, ‘jeeze no matter what Kein gets up to it's fine to you guys, now?' but as she wanted to get along with these two, she acted as usual.
“Huh… so what do you want to do, then?” said Maya.
“Right. We've already hunted a lot of monsters along the way, but I wonder if should go on ahead toward the lair. We could deal with the stuff there and make them easier to deal with. Lets just weaken them so that Kein can grow stronger.”
While following Kein, Anhime's party had been defeating monsters. Not just goblins, but monsters you wouldn't normally expect to see on Mount Kuko too, had also been appearing frequently. Things like orcs all the way up to ogres, the mountain was starting to show dangerous signs.
The goblins who originally lived on Mount Kuko might be causing these stronger monsters to sp.a.w.n. If they're not totally wiped out, they might even expand downward to where the humans were living.
“Okay, Anhime! Sefilia! Let's go, quickly now!”
“Okay!”
“Yes!”
The Omnipotent Witch Maya had no need to search the mountain for the lair in the first place. She knew roughly where the monsters had gathered together with just one cast of her “Search” spell.
But if one were to step back for a second and think about it, Maya has done nothing but pile on more and more stress lately. The moment she discovered a large lair teeming with easily wiped out monsters, something inside her snapped.
“Yes! TAKE THIS, from meeee!
The source of all creation,
the power of heaven and earth,
I am Maya Lean, gather before me!
Destruction!
Ruin!
Extermination!
Eradication!
The wicked who turn their backs on G.o.d's truth,
I now judge you with a prison of flame!
FLARE DESTROYER!”
It was already evening. After the sun had set, a huge bang sounded out throughout the mountain and a brilliant prison of flame rose into the sky.

Even in Kuko Village, all the way down by the foot of the mountain, the residents could say that the huge pillar of flame was clearly visible.
The huge explosion lightly gouged out part of the mountain's side. Trees were burned, not to mention the other damage, yet no forest fires broke out, probably due to the flames being caused by magic.
“Whoa! Maya you overdid it!”
I'm the reason we're here in the first place, so don't make such a fuss about it, thought Maya.
Because Maya, the one who always sets things straight, suddenly flipped out, sword princess Anastrea was shocked. The sword princess tried to say, you'll give us away if you do things so flas.h.i.+ly.
“Haah, haah…”
“Maya?”
“Fufu, sorry 'bout that. I overdid it a little.”
With a furiously burning prison of flame in the background, Maya tightly gripped her magic staff, with an ecstatic expression on her face. Even the sword princess herself drew back a little.
Just as you'd expect from the leader of “The Rose Maidens Blooming on High”. When she snaps, even Anastrea would be frightened.
“Uhm, I wonder if any monsters are left?”
The cave the goblins had used as their lair had the ceiling blown straight off, leaving no traces of life behind. The normal goblins had been blown to pieces or burnt to ash all together. The multiple Goblin Lords were also already dead.

In the former lair, on the remains of what looked like a throne, there was one gigantic goblin that survived. Surpa.s.sing even a Goblin Lord, it was an A rank monster, a Goblin King.
The center of the explosion had gouged deeply, even changing the mountain's terrain. Strangely, he was still alive, but only just. He was nearly dead from his burns, and looked truly miserable.
Possessing high intelligence, clad in lamellar armor 1, wielding a large hatchet, and the master of a grand lair, one worthy of the King of the Goblins.
He was already a shadow of his former self, lying there in tatters.
“Gu-Guuuuuoo….”
“Oh, thank goodness one is still alive. He's still a bit too big for Kein to face so I'll just take his arms for now.”
With a snap of her blade, Anastrea cut off the arms of the Goblin King.
“GYAAAA!”
“Wait, what are you doing Anhime? If you do that, he's gonna die.”
“Why? He's an A rank monster so his vitality should be high, right?”
“No, because he took a lot of damage from my magic earlier.”
He was twitching, now on death's door. We can't have that, now.
“What should we do? Oh right, Sefilia. Can you use some healing magic or something?”
“I'll… try.”
Sefilia used a healing prayer on the Goblin King and once again he started to suffer.
“GUGIeeEEGOGYOOOOO!”
It was even more painful than when his arms had been cut.

The Goblin King, writhing in severe pain, had been screaming in the goblin language that he would prefer death.
“Oh, G.o.ddess Ordia. With your holy power, let this person be healed.”
“GYOEEEE, (cough, sputter)!! (COUGH)!”
The Goblin King, his eyes already rolled up to the back of his head, was coughing and vomiting blood.
I told her you'd better stop already. Sefilia was somehow scary, making the Goblin King receive continuous healing.
“Shoot, healing magic has the opposite effect on the monster.”
Recovery magic deals damage to evil monsters. This was actually the first time in history it had been discovered.
“Ah jeeze, we can't do it anyways, Kein's already arrived!” Anastrea said.
“It's no good, time's up. Let's get out of here.”
The three of them rushed to leave the lair, while at the same time Kein, who just happened to come along ended up swapping places with them.
