Following closely was a cras.h.i.+ng sound and the shattering of gla.s.s.

Qin Zhi Ai’s footsteps came to a standstill for a second before she rushed into the living room.

The sight of a middle-aged man holding onto a golf club and swinging it at Gu Yu Sheng fell into sight.

Qin Zhi Ai had never known she was so brave. As the scene registered in her mind, she mindlessly pounced on Gu Yu Sheng in an attempt to s.h.i.+eld him with her body.

Seeing her rush towards him, Gu Yu Sheng’s body stiffened. Within the next second, he shouted, “Didn’t I ask you to scram? Why did you come back? Are you tired of living?”

As he berated her, he swiftly pulled her behind him and used his back to block the incoming impact from the golf club.

Although the blow landed on Gu Yu Sheng, a searing pain tormented Qin Zhi Ai’s heart.

She attempted to struggle out of his embrace but his grip on her arm was exceptionally strong, effectively restricting her movements.

He said, when his father is having an episode, he will not care about who you are so if she continued to fool around, she would be the next one to die!

He even said, can you TDM be more obedient and stop squirming around!

As the words reprimanding her seethed out of his lips, he effectively s.h.i.+elded her from the flurry of blows from his father, forbidding them from hurting her physically in any way.

Nonetheless, it was probably because of her that he could not dodge his father’s violent tendency and had to take more beating than usual.

Watching Gu Yu Sheng sustain injuries because of her, she could tolerate it no longer and started to plead with his father. But the more she plead, the fiercer the attacks became. In the end, she could only weep in silence.

“You’re exactly like your mother, bringing home a s.l.u.t at such a young age!”

During the entire process of being scolded by his father, Gu Yu Sheng had not uttered a single word of retort. However, this statement from his father managed to provoke his anger. He countered irritatedly, “Watch your mouth, who are you calling a s.l.u.t!”

Not surprisingly, his outburst triggered a fresh wave of dissatisfaction in his father and the beatings became every harsher.

Despite that, he was very stubborn and refused to make a single sound even though it was obvious he was in huge pain.

Finally, when his father exhausted all his energy and left, silence returned back to the room.

The clean and tidy house when she first stepped foot inside had transformed into a scene that resembled the aftermath of a robbery.

He released her and without a word, he dug a pack of cigarettes out from the pile of mess and left the house.

Qin Zhi Ai had never experienced such a thing in her life. She stood there in a daze for a long while prior to following Gu Yu Sheng out of the house with teary eyes. Outside, she had to search extensively before finally spotting him laying on the gra.s.s patch in the deepest part of the garden. He was staring intently at the stars in the sky while smoking the cigarettes.

Even though he sensed her presence, he did not raise his eyelids nor move a single muscle.

She stood beside him and stared at him for an extended period of time. After which, she squatted down and asked in a gentle and soft voice, “Are you ok?”

Following her question, her tears rolled down her face and the sight of his bruises sustained from the beatings of his father panned out in front of her. Under his tattered clothes, she could see that he was covered in bruises, new ones, old ones, ones that were just scabbed over, and scars that had faded.
