Chapter 14: A Chance Encounter [R18]

During the first half of the month after the wedding night, Xu Mo has to reside with the new husband. Yunfu was not excessively indulgent therefore Xu Mo could still sleep well at night and during the day they talked about medical topics to pa.s.s time.

The midsummer sun shone fiercely but there was still ice in the bas.e.m.e.nt so it was tolerable for Xu Mo. Yunfu had to depart for a while when the hot weather had pa.s.sed and the lotus flowers blossomed. Once again they were entangled when they bid each other farewell

When Xu Mo woke the next day, he had already left for a long time.

On this day, Ji Rufeng had just come home from court and saw his wife gazing at a storybook* with boredom. Her small translucent fair feet dangled on the eight treasure jade couch easily swaying his heart with each movement. Before Yunfu left, he had told him that she had taken a pill with a reborn effect so she will be especially weak for the rest of the month and should not engage in intercourse.

Yunfu had gone to seek out for herbs but the pitiful Ji Rufeng still had to share a bed with Xu Mo every night. It would not have been an issue if he had never experienced it but ever since then he never had to control his l.u.s.t. Only a few days had past and he already found it unendurable.

Xu Mo was bored to death at the dramatic love story about this couple who eventually die in the name of love. She threw down the book on the table when she heard him and beamed at him, "Tomorrow is your day off so let's take a stroll in town. What do you think?"

Ji Rufeng walked over and they both sat in each other's embrace, "Getting bored at home."

Xu Mo nodded her head. She did not enjoy going out but she still had time to go out and play when she was still a student. No wonder there was a phrase for the sorrows of the woman depth within the palace. They were unloved and detained in the palaces to the point of death.

She mistook his long silence for disapproval so she made a humph sound and glared at him.

His heart swayed as he looked at his cute wife's display of anger. He bent his head down and kissed her lips careful not to go deeply otherwise he will burn with desire and she would not be able to help him. He thought for a while then an image flashed across his mind and he joked, "It's not entirely impossible."

Xu Mo raised her eyebrows at him, "Then what does the prince consort want to do."

Ji Rufeng's beautiful face turned slightly red. He lowered his head and whispered in her ear.

Xu Mo's face also turned red and with a stunned expression, she stared at him for a long time in horror unable to mutter a word.

She questioned whether she heard him correctly, this person……actually wanted her to help him……m.a.s.t.u.r.b.a.t.e.

Compared to Xu Mo's hesitation, Ji Rufeng was very decisive. They had done it many times and are already familiar with each other's bodies. It was the etiquette taught by their own prestigious house from childhood which made it difficult to say it out loud.

He grabbed her hand and reached toward that area so she could explore there. Her body quivered when she felt his fiery giant through his trousers and wanted to take her hand back. But it could not go unfinished and he clasped her hand like a pair of iron tongs so she could not break free.

The man breathed heavily accompanied with a low m.u.f.fled moan while the young lady's stiff body sat in a dignified manner. Underneath the long robe, her white palm was held in place by his big hand as it moved up and down.

After an unknown amount of time, the young lady's hand grew sore and she weakly asked, "Are you ready yet?"

Then man leaned onto her shoulder and breathed quickly. The tides of pleasure at his lower half was about to knock him over, "Wait……just……a little……longer……ugh……"

After another unknown amount of time, the young lady urged in a sobbing tone, "Be……quicker……"

The man turned his head to kiss her, their tongues tangled and swallowed the girl's refusal.

After a moment, the man took his wife's hand from underneath.

The slight musk from her sticky hand made Xu Mo want to tear up. According to books, apart from foreplay, Asian men usually only last between five and twenty minutes, with a few exceptions, but not counting their first time together both of her husbands had……

Yunfu said that normal men would do it twice a week, while men who practised martial arts and are physically strong could be three or four times. So when Rufeng said he will slowly restrain himself, she did not believe it one bit.

Ji Rufeng took a handkerchief and cleaned her hands. When he saw her sulking face, he stretched out his hand to squished her face and said, "Where do you want to go tomorrow."

Xu Mo was slightly comforted, "I heard the treasure chicken dish in Yellow Crane Tower* is really good."

*TL-note: Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan City, built in 223, burnt down in 1884, rebuilt in 1985.

"Then let's go! If you like it, you can get the servant to bring one home every day." He had just felt exhilarated and agreed without any hesitation. He then silently counted there will be six more days left until he would not need to endure it anymore.

The war in the northwest was victorious therefore he will also be busy when the general returns to court so their time together was limited.

At dawn the next day, Xu Mo woke up and stared at the still sleeping person. She rubbed against his chest to let him know she was now awake.

Ji Rufeng was already awake and the corner of his mouth raised slightly when he felt the movement. The soft smile on his handsome face made one felt like they were bathing in the spring breeze.

Xu Mo had stared in awe many times but now she had gained a little bit of immunity. As for looks wise, Yunfu would be considered the best which made her as a female feel ashamed. Rufeng was not lacking either but because of his quiet temperament, people felt they could get closer and easier along with him. In truth, Yunfu was the docile and obedient one while Rufeng was more a.s.sertive. On small topics he was alright but he would not let her touch on topics that he deemed major. Even on affairs of love, he was domineering and had his ways to make her submissive. If she could not go back, it was not a bad idea to spend a lifetime with them like a family.

They did not eat breakfast and headed straight out the door after a wash. Instead of the carriage, they slowly walked to the market which took them nearly half an hour.

Ji Rufeng constantly held on to his wife so other people could not b.u.mp into her. Xu Mo looked around and her eyes lit up and she saw a stall in distance. She quickly dragged the person beside her and in a clear bright voice she said to the old man, "Old Uncle*, two bowls of soy milk and two portions of deep-fried breadstick cut into short strips."

The man looked at the clothing of this divine pair and a.s.sumed they must be from a wealthy family, he could not help but laugh, "The lady knows how to eat."

Although the stall was clean, Rufeng was not used to being on the side of a road but he tried not to show it. He watched as his wife sat down and patted a stool, her eyes were full of expectation so he sat down.

Their food arrived shortly.

Xu Mo drank a mouthful of soya milk and found it delicious. When she saw that Ji Rufeng sat unmoved and realised he must have never eaten on the side of the road so she pa.s.sed the bowl to him, "Drink it! It tastes really good."

How could Ji Rufeng reject her gesture? He lowered his head to take a sip and found it surprisingly not bad. As he put the bowl down, he saw her smiling and nodding at him.

Xu Mo's smiled like a flower. She picked up a deep-fried bread stick with her chopstick and circled it in the soy milk two times until it was even before she ate it.

"This is the best way to eat it. You should try it."

This time, Ji Rufeng did not hesitate and followed her method.

In a short while, the two portions of deep-fried bread sticks were finished. After paying, they both left.

The street was bustling with people and activity.

Xu Mo bought two skewers of candied tanghulu* and asked Ji Rufeng, "Have you had these before?"

*TL-note: Tanghulu is a traditional Northern Chinese snack of candied Crataegus pinnatifida, also known as mountain hawthorn. It consists of fruits covered in hard candy on bamboo skewers which are approximately 20 cm long. This sweet and sour treat was made in ancient times, yet many people today still eat this in northern China.

Ji Rufeng could not help but laugh and say yes. He had not realised his wife was well acquainted with the snacks among the common folk. Along the way, they had brought all kinds of pastries and roasted snacks. She also said, "They may not look exquisite but they taste very good. There are many things in the palace that are far more beautiful and delicious but many n.o.bles have never tasted these delicious common folk dishes."

As he gained a deeper understanding of her, the more he discovered the ways why people were attracted to her. She had a gentle temperament and lacked the arrogance that came with royalty arrogance. She rarely partook in the a.s.sociation with the other n.o.bles ladies but she was hardly reclusive. She treated her husbands the same and being with her was easy and comfortable just like his father and mother. There were many women who failed to treat everyone impartially which resulted in great messes in the household. His parents were childhood sweethearts, their feelings were sincere and his mother was very respectful to his father. She handled the household very smoothly and was never biased for decades.

Ji Rufeng was deep in thought when a child suddenly ran over and b.u.mped into Xu Mo.

He immediately regained his composure and promptly asked, "Are you alright!"

Xu Mo shook her head then helped the child up and also asked the same.

The child was very cute and well-behaved, and quick to give an apology that n.o.body could bear to blame him. Xu Mo stroked his head, gave him a skewer of candied tanghulu and told him to be careful. The child gave a quick thanks and called her a fairy which made Xu Mo laugh.

When Ji Rufeng saw this, his eyebrows softened and he said softly, "In a few years, we can also have a child."

Xu Mo lowered her eyes and did not speak. She did like children but she had read in medical books that a woman with a smaller pelvis were more likely to have a difficult birth. The medical conditions here are not advanced therefore to give birth would be likened to a trip to the underworld. Although Yunfu's medical skills are brilliant however he was not well versed in gynecology which made her a little scared inside.

Ji Rufeng understood her thoughts and said no more. When the time comes and she is pregnant, he and Yunfu will naturally be well prepared to prevent her from being in the slightest of danger.

Yellow Crane Tower, the biggest restaurant in the Imperial City was a place favoured by n.o.bles who loved to come here to eat and drink. The dishes here are exquisitely tasty and the pavilions are impressively decorated. Being able to sit in such an elegant room would make anyone worthy of respect.

Ji Rufeng was somewhat familiar with the place and had come here several times before he was married. After their marriage, he was both occupied with the imperial court and his wife that it has really been a while since he last came here.

They were full to the brim from the deep-fried breadsticks earlier and it took them a long walk until it had been almost fully digested before they decided to enter.

Once inside the big hall, a man dressed in red cupped his hand with a greeting, "Younger cousin, fancy seeing you outside."
