Chapter 3 The Legend's Orphan 1-2

Chapter 1 The Legend’s Orphan 1-2 At the pavilion on the cliff, the silver-haired man looked out with a grim expression. Throwing out a silver spell which morphed into a five-colored cloud, it wrapped around him and lifted him into the air. The woman also stepped light on her feet, generating a large lotus flower which carried her up. The two rode a cloud and a flower into the distance. The silver-haired man seemed anxious and flew faster and faster, soon landing inside a dense forest. He descended through the branches, where dust and black soil scattered allover the ground, surrounding the bodies of Ye Xiruo and his wife. When the two landed and saw the scene, the woman wailed, “we are too late!” The man walked over to the bodies of Xiruo and his wife, at a loss for words. The woman retracted the lotus flower and followed him. Biting her lips, she said, “don’t blame yourself...” The man’s body started shaking, the woman grew afraid and started crying. She moaned, “if you’re sad, just cry, don’t bottle it up...” The man’s feet weakened and collapsed near the bodies. He mumbled, “I can recognize them. They didn’t change much, they looked the same as 10 years ago, just older, a lot older...” He kept repeating the last phrase, the woman looked as if she wanted to comfort him but stayed silent. Suddenly, the man got up and walked deeper into the woods. Waving his hands, he cut several trees at waist-height, leaving a big empty s.p.a.ce. He then crouched down and started digging with his bare hands; in just moments, his hands were b.l.o.o.d.y. The woman shouted and rushed over, gripping his hands. “Don’t be like this. I know you’re devastated, but you can’t torture yourself like this!” The man pushed aside the woman and continued digging. The woman got up, tears flowing down her face. Then she noticed a boy lying on top of a patch of charred soil nearby. She ran over and picked him up, shouting, ”he must be their child. Come quick!” The man looked as if he didn’t hear anything; the woman was afraid to do more, she could only hold the baby. Seeing how blood stained the man’s hands and the ground, she cried even harder. Despite the messy tangle of rocks and tree roots under the ground, the man kept digging, breaking every barrier in his path. After a while, he made a big pit, and his hands were rubbed to the bone. He walked over to the bodies to pick them up, finding them to be rock-hard. He was confused before smiling faintly, “so many mystics try to reach the Yuan Shen stage all their lives but can’t, but you did it at the same time! Xiruo, you were a true match for Little Mei!” He put the bodies inside the pit, then began dropping handfuls of soil onto them. Meanwhile, a ray of green light came from above as a lean young man in white appeared. The man looked around before rus.h.i.+ng over to the woman, “Hengwu, what happened? Who is this kid? What happened to our fourth brother?” The woman gripped the lean man’s sleeve while crying, “Fifth Brother, please make Fourth Brother stop, just look at his hands!” The lean man stared at the silver-haired man, questioning, “what’s going on?” Pointing at the bodies of Ye Xiruo and wife, the woman sobbed. “They’ve been friends with fourth brother since they were young, and said there was something very important they needed to tell us. We were supposed to meet them at the cliff about 10 li out, but...” She grew more agitated as she talked, until she couldn’t form any more words. Tears from her face fell drop by drop onto the boy’s face, until his eyelids twitched and he woke up. When he saw who was holding him, he jumped up and looked all around, his eyes filled with shock. “Who are you? Where’s my parents?” The lean man crouched down and touched the boy’s shoulder. “Kid, don’t be scared. I’m Xiao Zhaoshan, and she is Su Hengwu. We’re both mystics from the Blue Cloud Clan.” The kid seemed startled before uttering, “I know the Blue Cloud Clan.” He pointed to the silver-haired man, who was still busy adding soil to the pit. “The man with the silver-hair, is he Xin Yuesong?” Hengwu rubbed away her tears and kept nodding, still not able to talk. The boy grumbled, “you’re too old to keep crying.” Then he tugged free of Zhaoshan and ran over to the silver-haired man. “Xin Yuesong, you saw my parents right? Did they give you the letter? Where are they?” The boy finished talking as he reached the pit, seeing Yuesong’s b.l.o.o.d.y hands, already showing his bones, he was shocked, which was only made worse by the sight of his parents’ bodies. Yuesong turned around slowly, staring at the boy, he suddenly started crying. “You really look like Little Mei...” The boy looked as if he suddenly woke up, he jumped into the pit, shaking his parents’ bodies while shouting, “Dad, mom, what happened? What’s wrong with you?” Yuesong let him shout, while he still kneeled where he was. “They’re dead.” “No!” The boy bellowed. “Who said my parents are dead? Aren’t you mystics? Save them!” Yuesong shook his head, “everyone is the same when it comes to death, G.o.d, spirits, humans, no one has any power. If they’re dead, they’re dead, no one can save them.” Stunned, the boy stared at the bodies while his chest heaved rigorously, until he couldn’t breathe anymore and pa.s.sed out. Hengwu ran over, while Zhaoshan also came and carried the boy out of the pit. Yuesong looked at the lifeless bodies, mumbling to himself, “did you know the three of us grew up together? We were the closest friends. If Xiruo and I didn’t both fall in love with Little Mei, we would have still been together, watching the river from the pavilion...” Zhaoshan stood next to Yuesong while holding the boy, he looked bewildered and ready to offer words of comfort, but didn’t. Yuesong questioned him, “Zhaoshan, why are you here?” Zhaoshan answered, “I was looking for enchanted stones and noticed monster energy, so I followed it here.” Yuesong nodded. Noticing the charred soil nearby, he suddenly rushed over. Touching the soil, his body shook. “Could this be the body of thunder?” He stared in s.p.a.ce for a while before walking next to Zhaoshan and the boy he held. He cried and said, “wake him up.” Zhaoshan followed the order. A ray of green light came from his body before reaching inside the boy’s nostrils. The boy’s body shook a little before he woke up; as soon as he became conscious, he struggled out of Zhaoshan’s arms and stared at his parents’ bodies. “Listen!” Yuesong’s voice scared everyone. He turned to look at the boy, “Ye Xiruo and Ou Mei, my dearest friends and your parents, are now dead! They were murdered? Do you understand?” The boy gripped his hands so hard they cracked, the nails pressing into his flesh until it bled. His eyes were full of tears, but he didn’t let them flow down his face. He turned to yell at Yuesong, “my parents died because of you! They stole a letter a traitor of the Blue Cloud Clan wrote to the monsters. If they weren’t trying to help you, they would still be alive, you owe me their lives!” Zhaoshan ran in front of the boy, his voice angry, “kid, you’ve got to be reasonable here. He didn’t kill your parents, how is he supposed to pay?” The boy stiffened his neck. “I don’t care, if he doesn’t find the person who killed my parents, I’d make him pay with his life!” Zhaoshan looked as if he was ready to slap the boy, while Yuesong was still calm. “Kid, what’s your name?” “Ye Ye!” The boy shouted. “My mom named me.” Yuesong nodded, “Ye Ye, my life is now yours. I swear in front of your parents that I’ll find their killer or I’ll die trying!” Hengwu rushed to say,  “Fourth Brother, don’t reason with a kid.” Yuesong shook his head. “There’s no point to my living with them gone. If I can’t avenge them, life is the same as death.” Hengwu understood that Yuesong’s heart was now buried along with Ou Mei’s body. Her heart ached while new tears came. Yuesong’s gaze flickered while he looked at Ye, “you have to take on responsibility now! You’re their only son, you have to kill your parents’ killer, or you’ll be a shame to your name!” The boy gritted his teeth, “you don’t have to tell me what to do. I’ll avenge my parents!” Yuesong nodded, “if you want to avenge their death, you have to know more. I may not be an expert, but I can beat quite a few people. If you want, I can teach you everything I know. You don’t have to call me teacher, but you have to learn from me, understand?” He lowered his body, adding more soil to the pit. “Let’s bury them together.” The boy was quiet as he walked over and added soil to the pit, while uttering, “Dad, mom, one day, I’ll bring your killer here and kill him!” His tone was like a monster’s rambling, making both Hengwu and Zhaoshan s.h.i.+ver. In a few moments, the two have created a grave. Hengwu dried her eyes and picked up Yuesong’s hands. “Do you still want to use your hands?” He replied, “my life is useless now, what do I care about my hands?” The boy kneeled in front of the grave while trying not to sob. “Dad, mom, I’m leaving you today. Please take care of yourselfs.” The boy kowtowed and stood up. Looking at his parents’ grave, he gritted his teeth, soft cries turning into sobs, then he pa.s.sed out again. Hengwu and Zhaoshan looked fl.u.s.tered while Yuesong picked up the boy without expression. “Kid, even if you can’t, I will!” Hengwu cried again while Zhaoshan just sighed. Looking around, his gaze landed on the distant woods. “Look!” They turned to see the body of a six-legged spider, who was turning into soil and scattering in the wind. Zhaoshan frowned. “The six-legged spider is not ordinary monster. If our clan really has a traitor, they are quite good to call these up. The only person who has this level of skill is Second Sister...” Yuesong seemed unaffected. ”I’ve not seen Xiruo’s talent myself but he was very good. Six-legged spiders are strong but not enough to defeat Xiruo. Xiruo and his wife must have been killed by someone else very powerful, who didn’t need the spiders to kill them. He must have wanted to use the spiders as a decoy.” Zhaoshan nodded and mumbled to himself, “then who could it be?”
